I was about 14 when Hybrid Theory came out and it got me into rock music. Funnily enough I listened to it earlier on today.

This is one of those deaths that will resonate to people who are early to late 20's and possibly even up to 40's.

Linkin Park were one of the first "nu-metal" bands I got into. I got ridiculed like hell for walking round Ivy Bank corridors with a Linkin Park hoodie on in 2000/2001.

It's such sad news and if the reports of suicide are correct, means he was obviously dealing with things he could no longer handle.

As a 30 year old, I can still say Hybrid Theory (and, to a lesser extent, Meteora) is one of my favourite ever albums without question.

Linkin Park were so many peoples introduction to nu metal in the late 90's/early noughties along with the likes of Limp Bizkit and Papa Roach. I saw Linkin Park live four times, and had the pleasure of actually meeting Chester when I was (I think) 16 at the MEN Arena when they were touring Meteora.

His voice was absolutely phenomenal and for those of a very specific age and era, will go down as a legend. Linkin Park have many songs which will stand the test of time and rightly be regarded as noughties rock anthems (I would say specifically, Crawling, In the End, Points of Authority, Faint, Numb to name a few). Putting his performance to the side, I can only go off anecdotal evidence and my own meeting with Chester, he was an absolute gentleman.

I personally found this very upsetting news, moreso to me than a lot of 'bigger' artists who have sadly died in the last few years, purely as this was 'my' youth. I will listen to Hybrid Theory on the way to work tomorrow in his honour.

I can only echo what has already been said.

I was at secondary school at Habergham when I first got into them, and strangely, I only realised yesterday that my Spotify music amounted to at least 20% Linkin Park.

I remember getting my first car, and going for a cruise on a hot summers night, with Chester singing his heart out.

I picked up a girl who I fancied in Burnley town centre, who incidentally became my first serious girlfriend, with Linkin Park to accompany me, to steady my nerves.

So many memories, that for all of us will come flooding back for different reasons.

Went to see Linkin Park at the MEN in 2008....!i was 52.. Age dosent matter....Minutes to Midnight is a brilliant album

First Chris Cornell and now Chester Bennington! Very sad to hear. Loved Linkin Park as a teenager and had all of their albums growing up. Chester Bennington was very talented with such a wonderfully powerful voice. At the very least, I hope such high profile suicides help raise awareness regarding depression which is particularly prevalent among males of certain age groups. RIP Chester.

This one hurts. Hybrid Theory was the first album I ever bought. Think the 'mid to late 20s' estimate needs to be upped a bit. I'm 31 and LP were my introduction to the rock genre, a genre I've seldom strayed from since.

Think this is the first of my music heroes to die who started making music once I was into music if that makes sense. The first of my generation if you will. That's why the feels are worse than for other losses.

Safe to say Hybrid Theory was getting a damn good playing last night and this morning.

I'm a 55 year old rock fan into Rush , led zep iron maiden , sabbath etc , but I loved the sound of linkin park especially the tracks in the end , what we've done , numb, quality rock music that will stand the rest of time .

When Linkin Park burst onto the scene there was a lot of hostility towards them because of the way they got signed. They were a Warner Bros exec's toy, and he parachuted Bennington in to and try and make them (and his investment) big. They weren't a good band, and hadn't made any friends with their approach to the scene, and as such no labels would touch them with a bargepole. In the end, the WB exec had a hissy fit with the company and threatened to quit unless they got signed to WB. They got signed, they got pushed, they got massive.

I saw them supporting Deftones twice in one weekend, not long after Hybrid Theory was released, and each time they were booed on to and off the stage.

Sad he's died like.

I was never a big fan, partly because of what Walton says above, but also because I never really liked rap rock or a lot of the nu-metal scene beyond Korns first album and one or two other stand out tracks, much preferring heavier and/or thrashier metal, but we did play One Step Closer in my band when I was in college which was beltingly good fun to play live.

Can't undervalue what Linkin Park achieved though, and the impact they had in the early 00's on teenagers especially, so it is very sad.
