An alternative view is solid experience at this level, low risk, good competition and frees up a considerably large amount to spend on 'marquee' signings.

Good signing, we will be less inclined to be bullied away from home with the new guys.

like i said. if he is someone SD really wanted then fine. personally i would rather we brought in someone who'd go straight into the team.

Lowton has been a weak link for sometime and that's taking into account his improvement in the last half of last season

Another signing like Walters and again if you check the Stoke City Oatcake forum most are sad to see him go and think we've done great business.i'll take their opinion over some of our nay sayers and suggest we are building a really solid squad.

Just had a look and they certainly didn't want him to go. I'm not sure how much their dislike of Johnson has to do with that though. They really don't like Johnson on that site. Not many say a bad word about Bardsley though

It goes to show that SD doesn't rate Darikwa who would, I'm sure, get targeted if he had to stand in for Lowton. I can't see Bardsley getting bullied, he knows what he's doing at the very least.

I wonder if people on here be happy if we signed a 12 year old who was ready to play prem football. At least he will be the right age lol lots of potential sell on for a profit opportunities.
Lets get real about this. He has played more games in the premier league tham all of us put together.

Welcome to the club phil. Hope you have a very successful career with the clarets.

Another top class experienced Premier league player.

We are no longer a Championship team looking to merely hang on in there, we are now an experienced Premier league squad that can compete with most other teams on a level playing field. It will still be difficult, but not as hard as last year.

Good signing with the prospect of more to come.

Some positive quotes on The Oatcake:
Walters and Bardsley are seasoned pros, who will be a big miss in the dressing room. Very good business by Burnley.
Always gave 100% left on good terms and was a dependable pro. What more can you ask? Liked his time here especially when he would go in with a 1970's Scottish style two footed tackle. Each time he dived in you cringed a bit thinking he was off with a leg break tackle. Good luck Phil. Personally I'd rather he stay and Johnson leave but contracts and money and all that behind the scenes stuff. Burnley are going to have a proper good cover RB this season.

I think it will be more difficult this season. At the end of the day all we're aiming to do is finish above three teams and Hull, Sunderland ,Swansea were in turmoil last sesason.

With Middlesboro making so many changes it was always going to be difficult for them making that step as we've seen in the past.

I don't see any team either in the Premier already or coming up struggling with personnel or management whatsoever.

IMO much more difficult this season. BUT I said we'd go down last season so wtf do I know.

It'll be a big struggle for both Brighton & Huddersfield. Have either signed any potentially good players yet?

Yep big struggle but I think they both will do better than hull and middlesborough because the fans weren't 100% behind them and/or the manager.

Change the record Ablue, we've all read that one plenty before. Make the judgement during the season - it'd be the fairest way, surely.

Huddersfield have signed better quality than we have IMO. They haven't been ******* about at pound land, I think its quite clear already the board just don't fancy it this year at all, disappointing that they backed Dyche last season but wont this year, oh well.

What makes you think they have signed better quality? None of their signing bar Tom Ince have played in the Premier league before.

Laughable horseshit.
Id have loved Danny Williams here, said so before he went there. Malone best LB in Championship last year. Id swap Mounie with Walters. Mooy another good signing.

Look at the players we are linked with and signing, they're all cheap options really. We even took Taylor over Robertson because he was cheaper.

They are looking for stability.
This season is going to be at least as hard as last season. It looks like the policy is to bring in some PL experience.
I'd love some more adventurous signings, but you have to be realistic.

About Robertson, more likely that it became clear he would be going to Liverpool and of course we can't compete with them.

July 24th 2016 : JBG 2.5 million
Nick Pope Free

KBRFC - "The board have backed their manager"

July 24th 2017: Charlie Taylor 5 million
J Walters 3 million
Jack Cork 10 million
Phil Bardsley 2 million

"Quite clear already the board just don't fancy it this year at all"

Are you really that thick?

Don't really understand all this "good cover" stuff. Why aren't we signing players who will actually improve our first team? That's the only way to move forward.
