O/T Camera advice

Post by Lancasterclaret » Tue Jul 25, 2017 7:26 pm

You lot know a lot more than me about this, but I'm looking for a camera that will shoot good landscape/wildlife photos that I can carry in a pocket or worst case scenario, on a bag on my bike.

I haven't a clue where to start, but I want something light and portable.

Any help greatly appreciated!

For a good all round camera look no further than the Panasonic Lumix FZ1000, it even has 4k that you can pull stills from; a good friend of mine uses this and gets outstanding results. Lightweight, super lens (Leica) and a very good zoom range.

I have one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00HH8 ... th=1&psc=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Cracking camera, and small enough to carry everywhere. Some really nice features like linking to your phone to use the phone as a viewfinder and control for taking shots. I love mine.

For a compact camera I would always go for a Panansonic Lumix with a Leica Lens.

Currently using a TZ70 which has taken the hits of my 'rugged' use.

As an added bonus I have had it returned despite many occasions of leaving it in pubs. taxis and my own jacket.

I left in in the 110 Club (as usual) after a match and it was returned to me the day after with a compilation of shots far better than I have ever taken.

I would also recommend the LUMIX with a Leica lens. Had few other compact cameras in the past, the LUMIX is head and shoulders above the rest IMO.
If cost is an issue it is worth checking amazon etc. I picked up a reconditioned one on amazon.

I have a Canon PowerShot SX720.

Takes good landscape photos.

Slightly off topic and I know a lot of camera experts will have a chuckle but I'm massively impressed with the camera on my new google smartphone. I took this at the weekend whilst in Ullswater - walking up some pretty difficult steps in a line of walkers I quickly turned around and snapped it. I know nothing about photography but I'm pretty impressed with it. :)

Oh yes, Aira Force

You can get good pics with smart phones, but I fancy an upgrade!

It was particularly impressive on Saturday afternoon after 12 hours of torrential rain

I cant knock my iPhone camera either - you're shot was very good, and like you say will probably be mocked by camera experts but I like it.

Heres one I took with my phone...

Basically the things to consider are:
How much do you want to spend?
Will you consider buying second hand?
What do you want to take pictures of?
What's the biggest size you can manage?

There's a big step between what will fit in a trouser/jacket pocket and what will just be a little bit too deep for that and will need to go in a small bag. But it's no good having something better if you can never be bothered carrying it.

Just got myself a lumix g7. Seems good so far but im no expert. A good cameraman will get a good picture with any gear and vice versa.
