Is clarets player worth the money?

Post by Newcastleclaret93 » Thu Jul 27, 2017 7:23 pm

Been a clarets player subscriber for a year or so now.
Not really sure whether it's worth the money tbh.

Highlights take a minimum of 36 hours, when most clubs players have highlights almost immediately.

For instance I had watched the goals an match highlights on the internet a full 24 hours before they came on clarets player.

Also the 'exclusive interviews' are pretty pointless now that we are in the premier league. Practically all the interviews are shown by sky anyway.

Should they charge a little more an live stream games?

Or does anyone else feel that the service is good?

No. The PNE friendly did it for me.

When they had the app, yes. Now, no. I'm waiting to hear back from another complaint I made on Tuesday. Couldn't listen to the game once I'd managed to work out how to find it. Awful!!

I think the service is alright. But as I highlighted you can get all the content on sky or twitter within an hour of the game finishing. Not really sure why it takes so long to get match highlights

Yes, I'd say it's worth it. The content has improved massively in the last year or two. Plus Phil Bird is a bit of a legend. JUSTICE!

I like it and would say it has improved but still think it has some way to go.

I liked the live match coverage against PNE but think that's more down to Preston than us.
Edit: live match with full TV coverage.
Why can't we have live coverage of friendly games?
It would also be good to see live youth games and U23 etc. I can't really see a reason why this wouldn't be a fairly simple thing to do?

I also don't understand the long delay before being able to watch the full match?

Am I missing something in regards to live streaming?

Could we live stream games?

I think it is just but I'm an exile that apart from a live free stream at the weekends to see the match I don't get to see interviews, highlights, etc. so it's good for that. But let's be honest, football interviews are pretty dull and questions are so tedious and repetitive and consequently players give dull answers but I don't think it's their fault; there is bound to be a certain amount of bias to the questions.
The highlights and full match should really be up the next day (as then people abroad could even watch it 'live' so to speak and avoid the internet for a day but sometimes takes ages; not really a problem now but I trued this in the Championship season and got seriously cheesed off and frustrated waiting till monday morning!!
The other new things are these fancy goal camera goals and a slow-mo feature of the game, which is OK if you're into Media studies or a student but it ain't that interesting after seeing a few; I guess it's some youngster getting work experience.
Turf Moor was very interesting and I hope they continue that.
Final thing is, all the highlights this pre-season have been free as well as some interviews and features so far (maybe to try and get new customers) but if some of last year's stuff becomes free there's only gonna be player interviews and full matches free and that ain't worth it.

And I would probably also add, that now all of our games can be picked up on a live stream I do listen less often.

No is the answer to that. The Football League have branded it as ifollow and they will be streaming games live to all subscribers living outside the UK and Ireland.

Again this just highlights how behind the Times our Iplayer is.

The ECB have just realised the day's highlights. Even rain induced that is still 5 hours worth of cricket to edit.

All done an released the same day

Not really impressed with the new layout or having to come on this site to find a link to the commentary for the Preston game.

Where's the 'listen live' microphone that you just had to click on?

Definitely needs the promised App being ready for the season's start.
I really enjoy the 'Match Day' highlights videos.

I couldn't find the listen live button for the pne game, but thanks to someone posting a link on here I was able to watch the game by logging in on the preston site, and there was a watch now button there. If the app isnt reintroduced i may dump my sub. I only use it as an emergency if I cant get a good a good stream on sports mania.

Seem to be quite a few more Freeview videos knocking about on it these days which can be annoying as a subscriber. Shame the highlights of development squad and youth team games are no longer shown.

I am guessing it has improved since Iast subscribed. I am sure Phil Bird is a nice guy and his co commentator but they do grate on me a bit. If I can't get on the game most of the time I'll use Cricfree which has a fantastic link most of the time. Failing that Final Score, although that's hit and miss depending on if Crooks or Jenas are on. Who are highly annoying!

Good morning all........

I have had Player for years........generally very good............a few complaints in the past due to buffering.............

I feel it is less important to me when we are in the top league as all the games are free to me as an exile via the lap top but I wouldn't think of giving it up.

The video quality of what you can watch there a few days after the matches is very good I feel.

I do like Phil Bird's rather biased commentary, it is like sitting next to a mate at the match.....

all the best.

I would imagine it's down to who has the rights to show the goals first more than anything.

Also, the editing on most sports for the highlights programmes is done real time, according to my mate who is an editor on MOTD.

i understand that to an extent.
But surely the friendlies we shouldn't have to wait almost two days to get highlights?

I think showing highlights of the U23 and youth games would probably help as well

In the interests of balance it's worth adding that until this summer I thought Clarets Player had evolved into something that was fantastic.

It feels a bit like they're giving up on it now.

Alfreton goals were up on Saturday evening.

Preston goals and highlights were on the day after the game which finished just before 10pm the night before, as were the Shamrock highlights.

Don't see the issue.

And do you know the process of getting home, editing 100 minutes of highlights, applying the graphics, previewing to ensure there are no glitches, uploading etc?

20 minutes worth of Preston highlights were uploaded the day after the game, which finished at 10pm the night before.

What more do you want?

Bit of an odd one. I watched the Alfreton goals within a few hours, same with Preston...yet took a few days to see Brady's goal at Kidderminster.

Upthebeehole. The same as every other premier league club and top end championship clubs.

Match highlights in a decent time. I don't get how it can take that long for our media team to edit videos when you can watch the highlights on twitter within 2-3 hours of the match finishing?

I don't ever really watch the match highlights on clarets player now, just because I have already watched them on other platforms. That's pretty poor for 'exclusive content'

Not 20min highlights but roughly 8-9mins.

Shows all the actual highlights.

It's a good service on clarets player but surely it can be quicker. I mean Vizeh has his vlogs posted before our highlights come out 9 times out of 10.

He's a young lad that films hours worth of content throughout the day.

So a Twitter account has been showing 8-9 minute highlights of Burnley's friendlies, shortly after they've finished?

8-9 minutes highlights of the friendlies, shortly after the game, not only on twitter but on other websites too?

I reiterate my point about the live stream from the Preston site.
It was excellent, really good quality, and made me realise how good it could be.
I appreciate we can't get a live stream from competative match but it was brilliant to get a live friendly.

Up to last May it was quite good. Since the switch its been pretty useless. Unable to listen to the commentary at Preston and video's sometimes work, Spoke to someone in the media department at the club who admitted they were having a few issues. Gave me a telephone number to speak to someone at the the company whom provide the service and guess what no one answered.Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
