Gray to Watford story

pretty sure it's nonsense but apparently we've rejected 2 bids, the first of a whopping 8 million

In the world of FF, a Deeney swap? Or too close to Vokes....

Re: Gray to Watford story
Flagged this up a couple of days ago. Somebody took the ****, but it is coming from more credible sources close to Watford now. Looking on with interest, especially as it is knopwn Sean Dyche rates Deeney and Deeney is seemingly unhappy with Silva and Co.

Andre Gray is 10/11 favourite to sign for Watford.
Troy Deeney to Burnley is any price you like - BFC not even quoted in the betting.

Sell, Sell, Sell and would love Deeney as think he could play the lone striker role in the 4-5-1 formation better than anyone we currently have

Take a lot longer than a year for Deeney to get up to Gray's speed.

Unless we have someone of similar quality coming in, it's a no.. no.. no.
Not unless we've got strong plans to bounce back up from the Championship again next season.

Today's Mirror reporting Andre to have medical ahead of £18·5m.
He'll be missed but Sean will already have a replacement in mind.I personally hope it's not Troy Deeney.

Re: Gray to Watford story
Another here not overly impressed with Deeney. One would hope, if true; we have our eyes on an immediate replacement. Deeney and one other. For me, I'd prefer to have another striker in alongside Gray, Walters, Vokes and Barnes rather than losing one.Woodleyclaret wrote:Today's Mirror reporting Andre to have medical ahead of £18·5m.

Can't disagree. One can only hope that following on from Dyche saying earlier in the week that we don't need to sell, that if we are prepared to sell. We have a replacement lined up. As you imply though. We know Burnley and how we do our dealings.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote:'Immediate replacement' that could very well be our problem!
It would be a big worry if we go into the final day of the window and only have Vokes, Barnes and Walters up front *shudder*

Re: Gray to Watford story
I'd rather let him go for free in the summer than strengthen a relegation rival at this point in the window. Seems crazy to me if true.

Re: Gray to Watford story
Added to Keanes departure this would effectively remove the last traces of anything resembling pace from the starting 11.
I hope the alleged replacement is waiting in the wings.
And that he's good.....ie not Juke, Sordell, Bamford,Hennings, Vossen or Ryan Noble.

Re: Gray to Watford story
Royboy alluded to a transfer record breaking signing on another thread. One wonders if this is connected and the Gray sale would expedite that transfer?! Losing a player such as Gray with three days to go before the season starts and not replacing him would be suicidal, not to mention. As mentioned. We'd start the season without our only real outlet with any pace.

Re: Gray to Watford story
We need two strikers if Gray goes, at least one should have pace - as it's a commodity we simply don't have, and I still think we need a no.10 type.
You can only assume we have replacements lined up in addition to that centre half and a wide player.

Re: Gray to Watford story
We are very naive if this is true.
We shouldn't sell to an immediate rival
We shouldn't sell till we have a replacement, other clubs do it to us, time we wised up

Re: Gray to Watford story
I just can't work out why this would happen - unless Gray is so keen to leave.
But from the club's perspective, it makes virtually no sense. I think it weakens the team more than losing Keane - Tarkowski is more of a replacement for Keane than anyone is in the squad for Gray. Furthermore, it strengthens a rival and it leaves us needing to spend upwards of twenty million on a striker who can score at least ten goals in the Premier League. Not many of those around on 'sensible' wages.

Re: Gray to Watford story
Can a strong balance sheet play up front?
We'll have lost 4 first teamers from last season's first XI by the time Saturday arrives, with one upgraded, one replaced with a near-34 year old and massive gaping holes where the other two were. That £48.5m sure will look good come financial year end though.

Re: Gray to Watford story
I still think this is bullshit but if it does happen then the transfer window will have been an unmitigated disaster as things stand. Keane, Boyd and Gray gone and IMO nobody come in who's better than any of them.
Re: Gray to Watford story
Any thought of Deeney coming here should be dismissed - his wage demands will be just as high as those of Gray

Re: Gray to Watford story
10 clubs currently quoted in the betting as next likely destination for Troy Deeney and Burnley are NOT quoted on that list. As mentioned by a previous poster his wage demands would be far too high.
Gray still 10/11 to go to Watford which is an excellent price if it is considered a "done deal".

Re: Gray to Watford story
The only news that could counteract this would be if Danny Ings - now listed as fully fit - came back on a permanent transfer.
Re: Gray to Watford story
To many on here sending Gray to Watford will not be an issue.
If he is crap, let a rival have him!
We will not know how much he means to us until he has gone, and how we ultimately replace.

When will people realise that our recruitment team identify and scout players - they don't make signings.joey13 wrote:Don't worry our recruitment team will have someone lined up , just like they had with Keane
I really don't get it. Our club is in its best position in years yet some posters just can't wait to criticise at every turn.

It would seem that way. Strange timing on the eve of the season unless a deal has been set up for his replacement.

Re: Gray to Watford story
Force him to see out his contract, get no money and have a demotivated striker as our main attacking threat for the season. Or, cash in and bring someone else in.
Neither are ideal as I'd rather be able to bed someone in, but I'd prefer to risk it on a decent signing than an unmotivated Gray - as good a player as he is.

Re: Gray to Watford story
I asked this on the other thread, but why do we often find ourselves selling without replacements lined up and yet when buying we're often forced to wait until the selling club has a replacement?
We don't need to sell Gray. We don't have another player in his mould who can step in. Why not make Watford wait?

I'd agree with that. If this is happening, the club will have known about it for some time and you would think we would be a way down the line with a new signing.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote:It would seem that way.
