And you can't make players be happy wherever they play just by giving them more money. In fact, it's just the opposite, because if you pay even one player too much, it causes dissent in the dressing room.

Re: New striker incoming
I wasn't expecting AG to start on Saturday but for all those fretting it is the Champions away.
I'm sure SD and the players won't be writing this one off but looking at the score predictions most have. A new striker for the Baggies match would be fine by me. We now have enough money to stop waiting for others deals and start making some serious bids for serious players.

Just to throw in a comparative, rovers are signing a midfield maestro from Celtic..

WTF ?Wile E Coyote wrote:haha.you reckon 30 million profit in this division is good business ? ones off at everton, hes an england player too, the other is our key striker, sold a whisker away from the opening game.
So you think £30m profit in this division is bad business ?
In both cases the players refused to sign the new contracts we offered them and were in the last year of their contracts. £30m profit is excellent business in this context and especially for a club of our nature.
None of us know why the Gray transfer has happened a few days before the season starts but just because its a bit sh-itty does not mean that we could have done anything about it. For all we know Gray could have refused to play this weekend - who do you trust ? Dyche or a player whose agent has been trying to get him a move for the last 2 months ?

Re: New striker incoming
If we had tried to keep hold of Gray and that had then fallen through because we were playing silly buggers(some signings do)do you think we would have had a happy player playing for us.claretspice wrote:I'm sure bfccrazy is a reliable source when he says that we're close to an exciting signing. And if we are, fantastic - provided we actually do.
But signings can go wrong. They can, and frequently do, fall down at the last hurdle. Which is why selling Gray before this marquee signing has actually signed for us is ridiculous.
We have 3 weeks to sign 3 players. A centre half, a winger with a bit of pace, and another striker. We always needed 2 of them and I was reasonably optimistic that we'd get them. 3 big money signings is doable, but it is a big ask.

Re: New striker incoming
this is a football message board to discuss footballing matters so not sure what point your trying to make?TVC15 wrote:Seriously - you think Walters is Boyd`s replacement ? Do you not watch much football ?
no I don't, but there's people on here who do have this very thought.
Not convinced Gray was going to start this Saturday.
possibly not, but we have no option of any pace at all up front now until we sign a replacement
I`m sure none of us think the timing is great...but do you honestly think Dyche and the Board think its ideal either ? Rather than think they have f-ucked up why would you not think it was out of their control ? with 12 months still to run on his contract we had full control of when he would/could leave. It's not difficult to delay the transfer until we have a replacement . Many clubs do this
This is not a case of me thinking the Board or Dyche can do no wrong - they have both made mistakes or to put a positive slant on it they are both developing / learning.
Take a step back and think about what the Board & Dyche have done with Keane and Gray....best part of £30m profit and both players an integral part of getting us promotion and keeping us in the Premier League which will earn the club more money in 2 or 3 years than we have earned in the previous 100 years put together. that's an irrelevant argument considering inflation and the globalisation of TV marketing in this day and age. I do agree that the board and Dyche in particular has done a fantastic job of polishing up some diamonds in fact it could even be his forte. However Dyche and the club does appear to have a very limited knowledge of players they are willing to sign and I'm not convinced that Dyche will target the type of player who will offer us a anything different I.e pace
These are "first world problems" as they say. If our biggest problem is how we are going to spend £100m on players in the next couple of years then yeh you have a big cry about it.

Point is that relatively speaking given the position the club is in at the moment its amazing how upset some fans are about Dyche and the Board.Right_winger wrote:this is a football message board to discuss footballing matters so not sure what point your trying to make?

We should keep trying to evolve, upgrade and improve. Scoring goals was a problem for us last season so we need to improve the quality in that area. You cannot rest on your laurels because other clubs aren't. The top PL clubs who are blessed with some of the best players in the world are always still looking to improve their personnel. A different level for us but the same notion should apply.Greenmile wrote:They were last season, when Gray was suspended.

Never mind the Danny Ings love in, what in your opinion of watching Gray makes him so good, because I can see lots of potential, but he is a long, long way off from being the finished article.
Watford have taken a massive gamble here.
I've nothing against the lad, I hope he makes it, so long as it's not at our expense, but I just don't look at him last season and think, he's irreplaceable.
Danny Ings would be a gamble as well with his fitness, but the Danny Ings that went to Liverpool was twice as good as the AG that went to Watford, in every department.

Re: New striker incoming
Why wouldn't we try signing Carlos Vela. Not old, tricky, pacey. Remember the goal he scored against us for Arsenal that lob?
Realistic signing imo
And Pione Sisto, unreal signing.
Those and Craig Dawson we would be safe comfortably.

Re: New striker incoming
Of course we should be trying to improve. But at the same time there needs to be an element of realism and balance. Our recent successes have been built on strong financial governance. We probably need three more players if at all possible, but I'm not convinced we need two strikers. The club has a lot of work to do in the coming three weeks for this transfer window to be deemed a success.karatekid wrote:We should keep trying to evolve, upgrade and improve.
