Been one of the most consistent players of the last 3 years. Thoroughly deserves this new year deal.

Have we ever been as strong at left back with Ward and Taylor. Both immense.

I love it when players want to stay......as a supporter and a Burnley lad, I'd have given everything to have been good enough to represent the Clarets.....maybe that's why I can't understand Boyd, Gray etc. with Keane & Ings I can get my head around it....an improving player making a step up. But not the other two?
Brilliant Stephen Ward. You have been immense.

Gray wanted a new challenge. He wanted to move away from a team trying to fight relegation, to a team that will be trying to fight relegation.

One of my favourite players and quite easily the best left back Burnley have had in my 30 year lifetime. Absolute consistebcy, rarely makes any mistakes and seems a really good lad in interviews etc.

Gray had 95,000 reasons a week to want to move. Fantastic news that Ward has signed back on. He's been fantastic and thoroughly deserves the new contract.

First outfield name on the teamsheet for me.

We have a fantastic record with him at left back. Best left back I have seen for us in 30 years watching.

Agree totally with post 13. Great player who has been a model of consistency but over the last few games has raised it a notch.

Great news for Wardy, bad news for Taylor. Now needs Tarks to put his arm around the lad and give him the benefit of his experience about waiting for your chance. Either that or learn the CB role to hedge his chances.

Great news. Hopefully Ben will sign a long term deal soon as well.

Just imagine if we could get somewhere near 30 points by Christmas and be able to offer 4 1/2 year deals to new signings/extend existing deals.

Keith Newton
Willie Donachie
Stephen Ward

Three great left backs from very different eras. What greater tribute than to be listed with Newton and Donachie.

I can't disagree with that - the only two I've seen that I'd have above Stephen Ward are Alex Elder & Keith Newton.

Quite how Wolves didnt want him is beyond me? Glad we beat Brighton to him.

He is a managers dream. Hardworking. No nonsense. Consistent. Never moans. Never gets bad press.

Plenty were saying that of Lowton and Ward, that it was Ward that should be upgraded. Our biggest error with Ward was not getting him in the team sooner.

There's some real competition for Ward now and him committing to a new deal, despite that new competition arriving,is a big positive on a number of fronts.

I don't know about that, he was moaning at Tarky when Forest scored at their place. :)

Good news though, he's been great for a long while now.

Due to his wages and them dropping down the leagues. They removed some players from their squads and got them out. Ward had been at Brighton in the previous season and would have gone back there permanently if they'd move a bit quicker. He was there about to sign when we made our move for him.

Add Les Latcham to that list. I'm sure he used to pick up George Best when the teams lined up in the tunnel and put him in his pocket every time we played ManU in the late 60s.

Ben Mee can help as well. Ben used to only get a game at left-back. Maybe Sean Dyche is right and Charles Taylor is another centre-back in waiting.

Mr Calm, Cool & Steady. One of our greatest acquisitions. The way he conducts himself I sense that team spirit and bonding are important to him. He looks a big "team player".Watch him the next time we score

Translating articles from other languages appears to be affecting your grammar Tony.

Translated from a fictitious Belgian article

"Their team bus was out of petrol and he needed a ride. We drove the faster and picked him up. He has become our racing car without stops."

Overjoyed to hear that Stephen has signed a new deal with the club, fantastic news and a fantastic player.

I read your translation about "A happier Defour" prior to reading this, which put me in Google translate mode. Google translate really needs to be improved. On one hand, it throws up a lot of humorous translations that take the edge off a nervous transfer window. On the other hand, I find myself slipping into translator babble.

My favourite so far was from a forum discussing our rumoured interest in Dani Schahin

"It is the sandwich of the monkey I'm afraid"

I hope fans in other countries get the same inadvertent comedy effect from Google translating English articles into their own language.

Been a fan of Ward's since his Wolves days, and he's only improved in my estimation since joining us.

So delighted for him and the club to have this done.
