Changes to transfer window
Premier League clubs to discuss potential for shutting transfer window at start of season rather than end of August. Will take 14 clubs to support it and that should happen.
Only problem if it is changed is that English clubs won't be able to buy once season starts but clubs from other countries will be able to sign players from English clubs until their windows close.
Expected to be passed to be brought in next summer.

Would be better if it was how it always was. Free and open until Easter.

Don't think it was ever Easter, transfer deadline was in March though. But that's when everything was domestic.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Would be better if it was how it always was. Free and open until Easter.
A lot of managers have spoken out this year and want the window shortening.

Re: Changes to transfer window
I do like the current windows as I think it means some managers have to take more care with what they do.
Some clubs/managers don't but that's usually those who're not fussed about losing money.
Going to make next summer more interesting and feel shorter that's for sure.

Great news. I'm sure the clubs can all agree not to sell anyone after the season has started.

Re: Changes to transfer window
It surely won't be long before other European leagues do something similar, it makes sense, really.
It'll be interesting to see how teams utilise their pre-season games to be able to assess their squad before the window closes. As it is now, they've a good few games to make final assessments and new sales / purchases.

Re: Changes to transfer window
should open window day after season closes
Re: Changes to transfer window
The window is effectively open the day the season ends. You can make a deal to buy a player, and take him off the other club's hands and start paying him a wage, at any time of the season. All the transfer window means is that those are the dates you can register him. And if you sign someone on 20th May, it makes no difference whether you register him on 20th May or on 1st July because he doesn't miss any games.

Re: Changes to transfer window
Shortening the window will boost the frenzy and potentially push up prices.
In respect to foreign players the English clubs will have to pay a premium to encourage them to sign early instead of waiting until the Foreign window shuts. This is more of a problem for clubs shopping in the lower end of the market and hardly a problem for those buying at the top.
A shorter window could benefit the teams with lots of cash and fully developed scouting networks, creating new barriers for teams with lesser financial means and undeveloped scouting networks.
Teams with poor scouting networks will suffer. A shorter window will benefit clubs that can get all of their ducks in a row and aim towards set targets with a reasonable degree of confidence that they can get those targets in. This is in contrast to clubs that tend to go with the flow, responding to incoming information within the window and changing circumstances relating to player availability.
English clubs that find it easy to sell to foreign clubs will still have three weeks of sales left after the window closes, while clubs that predominantly sell to other English clubs will have a smaller window for sales. This favours clubs with foreign players and expertise in foreign markets. Restricting both buying and selling to the close of an earlier window would solve the inequality that could arise from a window with different endings for both.
A shorter window could be very bad for Burnley and the smaller clubs and very good for the clubs that can afford to throw large sums of money around, especially if they are going after premium high price players whoose transfer fees aren't as succeptable to the influence of urgency that comes into play at the end of a given window.
The best change would be to open the window earlier and possibly make it longer. This would give teams more time to make changes, more opportunities to have their transfers done before the players return and diminish the PANIC! that benefits agents and players by increasing prices. The greater the PANIC! and URGENCY in any sales negotiation the more potential there is for wild spending and costly mistakes. Buy in haste repent at leisure.
Opening the window earlier and closing it before the first game could work. The only downside is that it might impact on the holiday period of players, agents and recruitment personnel, although the latter of those two should really be asked to take their holidays after the window shuts (when the demand for their on hand availability is at its lowest).

Re: Changes to transfer window
Common Sense, which is sometimes lacking in modern day football is about to prevail at long last. The window should close the Thursday 5pm before the new season commences. I think in the long term it will benefit a club like us. I can guarantee we have at least a handful of irons in the fire but players are sitting on a potential better offer coming in. It just gets too protracted. The only winners at present are Sky but it does get boring, well for me anyway.

Transfer Window to close early
The Premier League, and now announced this morning, the Football League, will have discussions in September with the clubs regarding the possibility of ending the transfer window next summer before the leagues get underway. Is this a good or bad idea?
Personally think it is a good idea to get everything settled would also like to see a manager window though conceivably this will never happen.

Re: Transfer Window to close early
if we have to have a window then ending it before the season starts is how it should be.
plus it will keep all those biffs who are more excited about transfers than football away whilst the games are on.

Re: Transfer Window to close early
The only way I'd agree to this is under the following conditions:
(1) the window opens as soon as the season closes
(2) it applies to ALL European leagues
(4) the European transfer window closes when the first European league kicks off
(4) there is NO window in January- all business to be done in the summer months

I don't think the leagues in Norway, Sweden etc would be too happy with it.BurnleyPaul wrote:The only way I'd agree to this is under the following conditions:

Window should be shut the moment the first game kicks off.
I hate kicking off and knowing we could end up losing some good players.

Re: Transfer Window to close early
So the Uk has its own transfer market finishing about three weeks before the rest of Europe one does?
I can't see how that is going to work, and are you not impressed I've avoided some sort of Brexit based gag?

Re: Changes to transfer window
Not really fair if foreign clubs can sign our players but we're not allowed to replace them. It probably won't bother the big clubs, with ready replacements but we're not really in that position.
The system is always loaded against clubs like Burnley.

They can only sign our out of contract players. Players under contract needn't be sold.Ambrose wrote:Not really fair if foreign clubs can sign our players but we're not allowed to replace them. It probably won't bother the big clubs, with ready replacements but we're not really in that position.

By and large, England is a buying country, not a selling country, so we're in the best position to introduce this. Even footballers will understand the point that once the purchasing window shuts in early August, then clubs aren't going to be selling players that they want to keep; especially as the biggest market for player sales (England) is not available.

No player should be able to be bought or sold after the first game, even to a club abroad.

Re: Changes to transfer window
If our transfer window is closed 'How can we sell players abroad?' When it's shut there is no business at all is there?
China have a separate window, Can they buy our players when ours is shut?

Re: Changes to transfer window
Honestly I think its unfair on the managers, the clubs and the players.
Look at Costa, Coutinio (sp) , Virgil.
3 players not playing for thier clubs as they are subject to transfers or had a text saying they are not wanted.
If the window had shut they would have to now get on with playing. It is too disruptive to all concerned and unfair.
