European scouting network????
I thought we had set one up?
Wasn't there a quote from Dyche saying we would set a network up last time we were in the prem or am I imagining things?
I think we should definitely invest in some sort of infrastructure abroad, surely £5m or so could pay for this for years?
We seem to be very limited to Championship and prem players and are having to pay massively inflated sums for them.

I dont think the problem is identifying players in foreign leagues. I think it is SD has criteria for a players personality too. Easy enough in english leagues where other players know each other but abroad much harder to build up this info

We need to employ people local to those areas then if he needs this sort of info, we sound way behind the curve on this.

Re: European scouting network????
Dyche himself has said we are behind other clubs in Europe. The last man we put in charge disappeared and Butterworth has now come in. He'll have plenty of contacts though and will have already scouted a lot of players but it will take time as the manager has said.Giftonsnoidea wrote:We need to employ people local to those areas then if he needs this sort of info, we sound way behind the curve on this.

Re: European scouting network????
No idea, but we have a head of scouting Martin Hodge and three seniors under him who are in charge of UK, Europe & technical. Those three will have several people they can call on both full time, part time and helping out. It's all about contacts as much as anything else.Giftonsnoidea wrote:How many scouts we got in Europe Tony?
Scouts are people we rarely get to know about but the three senior people under Hodge are Terry Pashley, Ian Butterworth and Darren Mowbray. Goodness knows how many others are out there working but scouting teams are massive. Ours is still growing.
One other I do know about is Glyn Chamberlain who was a reserve team player with us back in the 1970s.

Re: European scouting network????
Cool well hopefully the team get to work for next season as I can imagine it takes a lot of time to go and watch everyone that is half decent.
Hope we uncover some more bargains soon!

Re: European scouting network????
With the team overachieving in recent years it has left the rest of the club behind to some extent. Dyche said last week that recruitment was one area where we are playing catch up. But it is an area that we, as supporters, never really see, don't generally know who's working within it, and we only judge on its end product.Giftonsnoidea wrote:Cool well hopefully the team get to work for next season as I can imagine it takes a lot of time to go and watch everyone that is half decent.

Re: European scouting network????
I always find it amusing that people think that the only people searching for talent are those they know about. There'll be a dedicated network of people across Europe and a few around the world who are connected with strongly, or loosely with employee's. Butterworth won't be watching 300 European games a weekend. He'll have his contacts and so on and so forth.

Glyn Chamberlain is someone I recall being on the 1972-73 team photo along with the likes of Brian Flynn, Billy Rodaway and, was it Tony Marinello, younger brother of Arsenal star, Peter Marinello?ClaretTony wrote:No idea, but we have a head of scouting Martin Hodge and three seniors under him who are in charge of UK, Europe & technical. Re: European scouting network????
I didn't think he'd made it as far as a team pic but that's around the time he was here. He's from Chesterfield, as is Pash, and arrived at similar times. Interestingly, Pash didn't recruit him for scouting, he's been here a while and before Pash moved from his youth coach role.Silkyskills1 wrote:Glyn Chamberlain is someone I recall being on the 1972-73 team photo along with the likes of Brian Flynn, Billy Rodaway and, was it Tony Marinello, younger brother of Arsenal star, Peter Marinello?

Re: European scouting network????
It was a team picture of the whole playing squad from 1st XI( in claret shirts) to youth team wearing white shirts). Terry Pashley and Bobby Flavell were also on it.ClaretTony wrote:I didn't think he'd made it as far as a team pic but that's around the time he was here. Coincidentally I was going through my collection after you posted the 70s team yesterday and I noticed him. Mainly because Neil McGregor was on and I used to work with him. I' m on my tab now but I'll dig it out tomorrow.ClaretTony wrote:I didn't think he'd made it as far as a team pic but that's around the time he was here. Thanks for editting my link. I was too rushed to search for yours.
