Ashley barnes
Re: Ashley barnes
He wont go anywhwere!
we are aiming to build a squad capable of playing different formations. Plus he was given a lengthy contract
Hes too good for Boro so forget that.
£5m isn't enough to sell him to a bottom half of the table rival like Newcastle.
£10m and three, I say three twix or he stays!

So, if this is true and Ashley Barnes gets a transfer, can we replace him in the squad? He has already played in the league so is one of our nominated 25

Re: Ashley barnes
Even towards the end of the West Brom defeat last week he was being a prick and was a hair away from getting himself into trouble.claretspice wrote:Everton and Hull his sendings off for us. In fairness to him, his sending off at Everton owed a lot to him being played out of position on the wing.
But Ive said before that I think that the Robson Kanu sending off was the sort of thing Barnes does time and again, so if refs are clamping down on it, he's got the potential to be a bit of a liability.
Re: Ashley barnes
If Ashley Barnes was to leave we would be left with just Vokes and Wood as our only strikers so would then need to recruit 2 more.
And IMO Walters is not a striker

The 25 man squads aren't submitted until after the transfer window closes.boatshed bill wrote:So, if this is true and Ashley Barnes gets a transfer, can we replace him in the squad? He has already played in the league so is one of our nominated 25

Re: Ashley barnes
I'd say he's more striker than wide option although I know he has played out on the right plenty of times.mkmel wrote:If Ashley Barnes was to leave we would be left with just Vokes and Wood as our only strikers so would then need to recruit 2 more.

I'd be happy enough if he was a fourth choice striker / additional option for out wide, providing we get that extra striker and a wide man.

Re: Ashley barnes
I'll be gutted the day Ashley leaves. He's scored numerous big goals for us and gives us something we simply do not have in any other player.
Re: Ashley barnes
If he isn't included in the squad tonight he will be off.
Re: Ashley barnes
I would call him a forward with ability to play up front or out wide but IMO he is not an out and out goalscoring striker like Chris Wood or Sam VokesSilkyskills1 wrote:What do you think he is then?
Could do a job up as a striker short term when needed but that's it

When it closes is the transfer window firmly secured? Until the January gust blows it open again.

Tonight showing exactly why we shouldn't (and I believe won't) even entertain letting Barnesy go.
He is an absolute stalwart for our club, would run through brick and steel for us and totally 'gets' what we are about. Not bad for a southerner.

Re: Ashley barnes
Happy for him to go. Don't rate him in the slightest.
Spends more time trying to cheat his way into winning free kicks than anything else. Plays with passion and has scored a few goals, but if the ref doesn't buy give him the fouls it's like playing with 10 men.

Every team needs a che**cough* Barnes. Lets face it, we would hate him if he played against us, just the same as we hate that nasty piece of work Robson-Kanu. Every team needs one...certainly until video refs/refs clamp down on cheating.

Re: Ashley barnes
After last night, I am now convinced more than ever that refs now have Ashley's number. He now doesn't even get free kicks when he is fouled unless it is absolutely 100% obvious. Therefore the way he plays and the way he is effective for us isn't working anymore. If he can't put himself around and win free kicks I'm not sure what he is going to bring to the team.
Sadly, if we get a good enough offer, it might be mutually beneficial if Ashley Barnes were to leave and replaced by better quality.

Re: Ashley barnes
Typical Barnes performance last night, annoying centre halves, throwing himself to the ground, waving his hands in the air when decisions don't go his way, bustling his way through. Little in the way of quality though and given the opportunity I would sell him, depending on how serious Walters' ankle problem is.
Re: Ashley barnes
That's his biggest problem. Throwing himself to the ground at the slightest touch. A couple of occasions last night were quite embarrassing and I'm surprised SD continues to play him with those antics.UpTheClaretsFCBK wrote: Spends more time trying to cheat his way into winning free kicks than anything else. Re: Ashley barnes
I just can't wrap my head around why any Claret would want to see Ashley Barnes leave. He's a crucial part to to how we play and is probably a big influence in the dressing room. To sell him to either Newcastle, Huddersfield, or Boro would be absolute madness. The cheek of some 'supporters' to start bashing him and saying he's not Premier League quality is sad. Ask most centre backs in the Premier League how they feel after playing against Ashley Barnes and I bet the most of them say it's never enjoyable!

Completely agree, He was central to quite a lot of our play last night. He had a superb shot, unselfishly played wood in where a lot of players would have gone alone. Superb horrible niggly player who gives his all for the club.nyclaret wrote:I just can't wrap my head around why any Claret would want to see Ashley Barnes leave. Re: Ashley barnes
Absolute class last night.
They couldn't handle him as he kept dropping deep to receive the ball and an obvious example of that is the first goal.
His ability to battle against centre halves much taller than himself is what his game is all about. He is on a loser from the start but can somehow control the ball on his chest from virtually every angle and at pace hold the ball up keep possession and start again.
He does what it takes to try and gain an advantage for the team.
To single out that area of his game is harsh and like dissecting Rooney's game and saying that he is always arguing and angry and does nothing else.
Everything he does is for the team. When he is in 40-60 situations he will do what it takes to try and win the ball ........for the team.
Ashley Barnes epitomises THIS team.

He is a battler, we love him.
But as for end product and quality, we need more to progress.

Re: Ashley barnes
He is a true claret and I would keep him if only to win free kicks for Brady and Defour. To lose him just might damage the ethos of what this club is about. Dyche knows the type of player that works for us, now Cork Walters Bardsley and Taylor all fit that model and hopefully Wood too.
Barnes was an integral part of establishing that model

Stupid article! Shows picture of Ashley in his Brighton days. Then says "The Austrian....."
The club should watch out as there is a danger of throwing the spirit and camararderie out with the bath water here.
