Difficult player to play against but hopefully Wood is an upgrade in goalscoring terms. If we're still after a pacey striker it might make sense to sell Barnes. £5m-7m?

I likr Barnes. Has scored some vital goals and is a pain to play against. But he can be also painful to have in your side.

Hes played a big part for us. And s a character id be sad to see him go. But of we can recoup some of the Wood money by shifting Barnes I wouldnt be too disappointed.

I know Ashley Barnes isn't everyone's particular brand of Vodka, but he's been a real servant for our Club. I'd be sorry to see him go but, with the purchase of Wood and the potential addition of a Gray replacement on the cards, we could be tempted to let him go. I suspect we'll make quite a tidy profit on him too.

Aye, aye, Ashley!

Cup-tying him for any new Club.
I remember that happening to Steve Thompson. Imagine if we'd have been able to bring him in to hold the game in extra time against Spurs, instead of a shot-legged Akinbiyi.

There'll be loads of Championship managers who'll want his particular 'skill set'.

If there is any truth in this it would appear that the manager prefers Walters to Barnes, obviously you trust his judgement on this, but would be surprised and sorry to see him leave.

Probably needs to drop down to the championship for regular football. Which is all that a professional footballer wants to do isn't it ???

A very good footballer who maybe needs to re-focus his game away from his recent over physical approach. Will do well under the right manager/coach and will be remembered with great affection by most Burnley fans.

p.s. if the transfer rumour is untrue then please ignore all of the above

A superb team goal, one touch football and a great finish by Barnes. He has been a good player for us but maybe it is time for him to move on. But not before he scores the winner tonight at BollEwood...... UTC

It would be sad to lose Ash. He always gave us 110%, and was a lot better than many gave him credit for. That said we are top heavy for strikers and someone has to go.

Be a shame to lose a whole hearted and committed player, but he's limited, lacks quality and composure at times and its hard to see how he'd be ahead of Walters for the second striker berth off a target man, or Vokes or Wood for the main man role. He's scored some great goals but he's missed some whoppers too.

Not sure I'd sell to any of the teams linked though - they're rivals. I'd be more than happy to sell to a top Championship side though.

I see Barnes like I saw Rory Delap for Stoke. Like a necessary evil to help us get a foot hold in the premier league. It wasn't pretty but they did what they had to do (even when we moved some advertising boards) but then they moved on.

Then as we move on (I hope) we wish Barnes well. I thought it might be another season before we did though.

In the scrappy win against Stoke last year we put Barnes on with 20 mins or so to go and they just couldn't cope with him and even Martins Indi who had been good ended up spitting his dummy out! A valuable three points.

Of course he does contribute in other ways but you know what I mean :D

I really hope Ash isn't going.

He is a nightmare to play against and always gives his all.

The problem with Ashley, especially in a 4-5-1, is where and when he plays. He's great coming off the bench to upset the opposition and get the crowd going, but he's not really going to start as a lone striker and I don't see him filling either of the wide berths. He should only really be starting in a 4-4-2.

Plus there's an issue with referee's now as well. He's clearly had his card marked as he gets in the book pretty much as soon as he goes anywhere near an opponent these days... and he picks up some silly yellows on the side of that!

Added to this, his record simply isn't good enough. 14 goals in 90+ apps for a striker is poor. I know 30 odd of those are from the bench, but even 14 in 60 is poor. Wood and Vokes have better records across their careers so he's well down the pecking order.

i like Ashley, he's a proper nuisance and he can be very effective, but personally I think we need better if we want to establish ourselves at this level.

I know people have different estimations of his quality but I think we can all agree that Ashley Barnes always gives 100% to the cause. I'm not saying that's enough for him to stay with us but I do like him. I'd be sorry to see him go. He's a real pest but he's our pest :)

he can score occasionally too, his inclusion up front does cause havoc at times for usually quite composed defenders.
He might not appear polished and slick, but he offers something different. Commitment and passion are great attributes, barnes has both. i hope he stays with us, i like him.

Like George Boyd, total commitment to our system and club.
As mentioned above, rattles normally composed defenders.
Always been a fan of his.

Would also add, that 'team' goal v Wigan.
If Manure, Chelski or Arsenal had put that goal together, it would never be off the screens.

I'd be in favour of keeping him, even if we only play him against Man Utd to utilise his previous experience of riling up Mourinho and Matic.

Agree. Was only discussing this last night.
Barnes to start tonight and see red by HT.
He'll have to really change his approach given the way referees seem to have tightened up and are applying the rules this season.

I like Ashley Barnes, but the reality is to improve a step up in quality is needed, so he, along with the likes of Arfield and Boyd and Kightly before them are all surplus to requirements.

If we bring in a winger and another forward and we get no injuries then he's probably not going to see much game time. I thought he performed really well last season, better hold up/link up play than Vokes I thought, he'll feel hard done to sitting on the bench all year. If he's expecting us to sign more he could be pushing for the door himself.

I'd rather we hung onto him till January at least, regardless of who we bring in. We could get injuries, we might want to get back to 442 for a run of games, he can cover at wide forward or wide midfield and, regardless of referees tightening up on it, more than any of our other forwards he'll be the one to win us free kicks round the edge of the box in the last 10 minutes.

I will admit that I was never a big fan of Ash but he did have a very good season last time around. Appeared that SD had had a word in his shell like and he stayed on his feet more often, rather than alleging he'd been fouled all the time.

He would make an excellent addition to the likes of Middlesborough, Leeds, Forest or Preston.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Ashley sold. Suppose it's all part of our evolution. Barnes has been brilliant for us and offers something other strikers don't.If he went I'd be sorry but i also think his chances will be limited this season. Only hope it's not to one of our rivals, but i've no doubt the'll be plenty of suitors.

Everton and Hull his sendings off for us. In fairness to him, his sending off at Everton owed a lot to him being played out of position on the wing.

But Ive said before that I think that the Robson Kanu sending off was the sort of thing Barnes does time and again, so if refs are clamping down on it, he's got the potential to be a bit of a liability.
