Bardsley tackle

Post by fidelcastro » Thu Aug 24, 2017 12:07 am

Be honest... if that had been an opposition player on one of ours, we'd all be screaming for a red card!

Didn't think a thing of it at the time but just seen replay now.

Cahill was off for similar/less

Bardsley could easily have seen red but the Rovers player clearly went in two-footed and received no punishment.

It was a reckless lunge/stomp I'm afraid. I'm glad a Blackburn player was on the end of it considering what they were dishing out.

But if that was in the premier league it's a straight red no complaints.

It was Bardsley who went in two footed.

No, Bardsley went in one-footed, albeit with a stomping action. The Blackburn player went in two-footed.

I'd agree with that. Both players leapt in. Think Bardsley was a bit worse. When I saw it at the time on the stream and the first few replays I was expecting a red.

So you really don't see the Blackburn player going in two-footed? This isn't anything to do with Claret-tinted specs, it's about seeing what's right in front of you. And I'm not defending Bardsley's tackle at all.

It sounded on the radio that Elliott Ward should have been sent off earlier for a professional foul - if so, then Bardsley's doesn't do more than make it even.

I know what you're saying, in terms of justice, but if Ward had have gone then the Bardsley incident doesn't happen (if you see what I mean!) :)

I thought he was a tad lucky. It wasn't the tackle as such it was more the stamping action as he brought his leading foot down toward the ball. My first instinct was that it was intentional and unnecessary.

The other bloke lunged himself and his was two footed. I don't think Bardsley was hurt at all though, more an attempt to avoid more serious punishment.

Hopefully Dyche will have words, we can definitely do without silly red cards in the Premier League, where I'm pretty certain he would have been given one.

It's hardly a surprise though, Bardsley has always had that side to his game.

Need a video/gif. Looked like trouble from where I was but both went in dangerous. Maybe both going in silly, with Bardsley worse (need to see again), is why it's given yellow not red.

I initially thought we had been given the free kick and both players were in trouble.

Looked bad from both (by modern rules). It looked like bardsley took the ball but by jumping in aggresively.

Said on cahills card though. I think the games gone soft. Nobody got hurt.

He'd have been having an early bath if that was a Premier League game without a shadow of a doubt. I'm sure Dyche will give him a talking to after that because we can't afford recklessness like that in a league game. It wouldn't have made a difference to the result tonight though such was the gulf in class.

I think he was making his commitment to the cause clear. Just in case any supporters doubted it.

We still 'celebrate' THE tackle on Dunne 16 years on.

Your simply cannot go in with your studs showing.

Having seen the replay from a different angle last night it is most certainly a straight red, no ifs and buts about it.

Only seen it once, but he won the ball, although he had a stamping motion.
It didn't look like he caught Conway with his initial tackle, more in the face with his boot when the both span around.
Think Conway was trying to get away with it himself as he certainly went in what Looked late and 2 footed.

Yellow was fair I thought, although Bardsley was clearly saying thats a soft yellow, whilst hooper seemed to be saying wreckless

Both players went in, which may have helped Bardsley's cause in only getting a yellow. Not as bad as Cahill's as it was minimal contact. Bardsley did make a two footed stomp towards the ball more than the player for me; though as I say, a yellow was about right.
More annoyed at that Rovers player who got one of ours booked when he clearly played for the foul. Was already going down when contact was made.

The only other yellow card we got was Kevin Long's which was one of the most obvious bookings of all time?

Could be getting mixed up with all the excitement. May not have been booked in the incident I am referring to. All I remember is watching it live and and the replay. There was contact, but the Rovers player was already going down prior to the contact.

I was expecting a red card for Bardsley and a yellow for the other lad. However, with challenges like this people have different reactions depending on the angle from which they saw the incident - that applies to referees as well as supporters.

100% red card. Very poor challenge and I've no doubts that he would have been off for that in a premier league match. Other than that I thought he had an excellent game though

The rules today are a little bit of a grey area. I thought Bardsley dived in off the ground and could have seen red, but at the same time I thought it should have been our free kick as their lad actually only got hurt because of the way he hit Bardsley. They were both out of control, but Bardsley won the ball and the Rovers lad got the man.

Bardsley clearly went in out of control but it was not a two footed challenge. He led with his right foot and played the ball with the outside of his right boot and not his studs. Yellow for me. I'll get a picture up later.
Kevin Long should have had a yellow for the foul in first half injury time that led to Mulgrews free going just over. He looked a cart horse when he got his yellow. Otherwise he was sound albeit against a third division side.

Bardsley made good contact with the ball and as both players were challenging in the same direction a yellow card was the right decision. Had it been the ball in the middle and the two players challenging each other directly facing, it could have been a lot worse.
Interestingly, have two opposing players ever both been sent off for the same tackle? Like a double lunge?

Just watched it again and I was wrong at #43 he does use his studs but on the ball so still a yellow. He never contacts Conway. Conway clatters into Bardsley.

I think it's one of those where had he been shown a red, there couldn't have been many complaints. Some refs would have sent him off, some clearly would award him a yellow. Certainly fortunate though.

Contacting Conway doesn't matter under current laws does it? Out of control, with excessive force is a red card. I'd agree the law is wrong and takes away part of the game, but assessing the challenge by the criteria, it's a red card.

I certainly expected him to see red when he went in. It was reckless, high and dangerous. Their player going in at full tilt too probably saved him.

Only saw it live and I was expecting a red card for that. He was reckless and off the floor which was my recollection of it, we got lucky. If anyone has a link to the incident I'll be happy to review with the TV viewpoint.
