JBG

Post by Devils_Advocate » Sun Aug 27, 2017 7:23 pm

Its early days still and whilst JBG is a very good and tidy player it is looking like the the great strides forward Dyche has made for the club over the last 12 months might mean he is now not quite up to being a starter this season.

JBG would probably be better as back up for Brady and a new signing to keep them on their toes and step in if one of them is struggling or gets injured.

Its testament to how far we've come and with only three wide men in the squad there is definitely space for an addition and where possible we should always try to improve on what we have got when we bring someone new in.

I still think he can play a part but we need someone who can beat a man

Definitely wingers by nature can be the most inconstant players so having 3 good ones for me is a must with Arfield as a real solid back up right across the whole midfield

I expect JBG to be much more influential against the lesser teams

Gave him a 5 on his performance. Frustrated cutting in and passing backwards so often when he could have been more direct. His injury was clearly a setback for him but I think we've already seen enough to know he'll create for us and he doesn't shy away from putting a proper shift in for the cause. He'll have his good days when others don't.

Agree with this. As someone above says hopefully he'll have more joy against the more lower ranked opponents

Wingers are confidence players. He hasn't started the season ideally but there's a good footballer in JBG.

Had a stop start claret career but Dyche has started him in the 3 games so clearly believes in his ability. He'll play himself into some form, I'm confident of that.

The phrase 'We've pulled Charltons pants down' got trotted out a few times last season. He hasn't suddenly become a bad player.

The problem lies in that by playing on the "wrong" side he has to cut back onto his left foot to get the cross in

Feel like everyone is being very harsh on JBG here. Give him chance, he's still not Dyche fit!

B0llocks.

He's 'Dyche fit' and that isn't the reason for him not being to able to find a team mate with a pass.

I like Guddy but he's not good enough to play on the right.

Not doing it for me, at the moment. Having to cut back wasted everything positive. Not as good going up and down as George, either!

A well worded post to suggest that JBG, currently, isn't at the level required, without being too scathing. I fully agree.

He may make the grade at this level, although I'd be surprised. A decent back up but, for the time being at least, he's not at the level required.

He would be better played as the right sided centre mid of 3.
He seems to be more effective inside rather than on the touchline crossing.

Jesus wept, once again people "discuss" a player and not a single person has "slagged" him off. People are making the correct observations.

Some folk on here need to learn the difference between discussion and out right criticism.
I suspect some people burst into tears when they aren't allowed on the rides at Alton Towers

Different role for our wide players this season with a central three. Seems to be really suiting Brady but then he's had since January to develop an understanding with Ward (when he's on the left) plus he plays with him at international level.

The injury v Lincoln completely derailed JBG's season and it's bound to take him longer to settle. I liked Boyd, his work rate was immense in a 4-4-2 but with the added protection of a third CM, JBG offers far more of an attacking threat and that definitely seems to be what we are more about now.

Results and performances have been good and Sean will give him a chance to prove himself. Still think a wide player, to increase our options, will be one of the two players we sign this week though,

He looks totally out of form and confidence but if SD picks him, and he didn't have to, he must think he's ready to go.
After Deadwood I would have had Westwood in for Hendrick with Brady right and Scotty left but let's just leave it to the ginger genius.

This just wasn't true today unfortunately. He had 9 accurate passes (less than anyone else on our team), 1 cross and 0 long balls. All 10 other players created more than him today.

He started to look a real player towards Christmas last year and then injury disrupted his season.

Hopefully he'll recapture that form.

He's coming back from a nasty injury, wasn't it picked up in the Lincoln game, when he was hacked down? He was hacked down again yesterday and I feared the worst. Looks like a confidence player, has the ability but he's probably got that in the back of his mind. A few good performances and a few tackles more where he isn't out for another lengthy spell and he'll gain some momentum. If he can get in the side that is.

He's not at his best, that's for sure. I'm confident that he can be a real threat at this level but he just needs that run of games and some confidence. While he did make some mistakes yesterday, I seem to remember him making a very good interception and generally working hard. If he keeps working hard, it'll come.

He seems to be struggling for sure - but SD is picking him for a reason so let's see what happens. No need to panic and we now have plenty of options.

Don't think it is helping him playing on the right - but he has a lovely shot and if one goes in it will do his confidence no end of good....he got pretty near with one against West Brom

I agree with DC Wat and others who think he's an extremely valuable member of the squad but who is just a bit short of something to be a regular starter for us. I suspect he's slightly short if form at the minute but even at his best i think hes got a similar, but in every department inferior, skill set to Brady. jdr has been tipping him for great things for a while and I hope he's proved right, but i just don't see enough in his game.

Hes certainly a player who prefers the right side (he's said that) but apart from anything else, i think the missing link in this team is someone with real pace opposite Brady who can break beyond the striker and so a shift. JBG has nowhere near that sort of pace.

He's ok but a touch short of "prem starting class" imo. i imagine he'l be best agaisnt the weaker teams but feel he's a bit of a spare part agaisnt the big clubs. He's not afraid of getting stuck in though and he's certainly fit (does anyione think Dyche would play an unfit winger?). he seems to cut in and go to his left far too often for me as opposed to whipping the ball in.He's also not "that fast" for a winger.Though if he's good enough for SD he's good enough for me.
