No further deals
That's it, Burnley have confirmed there will be no further transfer business.
I believe we were just waiting for one potential outgoing which hasn't happened. Was Ulvestad.

Nope, only 1 player we have signed who was better than the hat we had and that was Jack Cork. Taylor is a good prospect for replacing Ward, apart from that we are short especially at centre half and on the wing.

So having waited until the close of the window - it now looks like a serious disappointment. Lost our best player, and lost the one forward who gave us ab extra dimension with his pace, and replaced neither.
Really disappointing.

Best described as a strange window.
Re: No further deals
I think it's poor as well. I think we could have improved our squad a lot more than we have. We haven't invested much considering the incomings. We have bags of cash in the bank and I, like most would want to see a sensible about of it invested. Nothing silly because that's not our way, but I feel we could have done more.
I do think we have enough to stay up? With Dyche as manager yes I do, barring any CB injuries.

Lots of filler. Very little main event.
Re: No further deals
What's the obsession with improving the first 11? Our first 11 has been fine for some time - it's depth of squad we needed and we've addressed that really well.

All over.
After all the "failings" of the big boys at this last minute deadline we at Burnley now must show them all that we are ready for the challenge.

I think it's a poor window seen as though we've failed to bring it a centre back despite having over a year to plan for one.
Main positives are Jack Cork, Charlie Taylor and keeping Defour.

But if we get to Jan with no injuries, it is a master stroke, when in all reality it is pure luck, which what we relied on 4 years ago.
It's p1ss poor, and I'd like to know who gave this the go ahead.
I'd put my house on Dyche not advocating zero cover

Not signing a centre hakf has taken the attention away from needing a winger too.

Keane leaving was known, Twark was always his replacement. Gray...was anyone that disappointed?
Cork - Superb addition
Walters - Good addition
Taylors - Good addition
Wood - Not sure but has started well
Well - Lets see, not convinced
To me its been a satisfying window with nothing a shock to say it was a poor window.

Should have been a lot better.ClaretTony wrote:I think we've done extremely well this window with some really good signings.
We are seriously at risk at centre back if we get injuries or suspensions.....and we would be extremely lucky to avoid either.
And after saying we have been targeting a wide man we have failed to land any of our targets.
In terms of improving our first eleven - so far it looks like Cork is the only starter of all our 6 or 7 signings.
I get that buying players is very difficult - but it's frustrating hearing this every window.
Re: No further deals
Well in terms of not signing a centre half it's definitely Dyche's call.MACCA wrote:But if we get to Jan with no injuries, it is a master stroke, when in all reality it is pure luck, which what we relied on 4 years ago.

Re: No further deals
Very good window brought in some good players.Got good cover all over the pitch, would have liked another CB but I am sure Dyche will sort something out if need be.My team that I have supported for over 60 years are in the Premier League again.Best Manager since Harry Potts and Brian Laws.Juust beaten Chelsea and drawn with Spurs.10th in the table at the moment playing good football.Whats there to be miserable about like some on this board tonight.Life is tooooooooo short to be miserable.
Re: No further deals
So what's the benefit in not laying out a few million, to get adequate cover?taio wrote:Well in terms of not signing a centre half it's definitely Dyche's call.
It's corner shop business again. But aslong as we are not caught short it's.. . Great business.
Re: No further deals
Cork has been the improvement as a player and as a system. That aside, it remains to be seen.
We've certainly got some extra depth but some key areas, where depth was really needed, look worryingly vulnerable to loss of form, suspensions or injuries.
A centre half and a winger short of being a decent window.

Re: No further deals
The CB situation is strange. Four specialist CBs last season, by the end of which 1 and 2 were injured and we were playing with 3 and 4, who as a pairing, were not good enough at this level.
The fact that others (Ward, Taylor) could cover isn't really the point. Tarkowski seems to have stepped up very well so we didn't even need to spend big on an automatic starter, just competent cover. Ranocchia, as an example not saying it had to be him, was available at about £5M apparently.
Would be interesting to hear what SD has to say about it - bearing in mind we look like playing 4-5-1 and today invested a similar amount (£5M) in our fifth striker.

Re: No further deals
It's been a decent window. Certainly not excellent but certainly not dreadful.
Cork and Taylor look excellent. Wood shown some promise. Added some Prem experience.
We're definitely a centre back short (if Dyche doesn't think so that's fine but he's then got questions to answer if Long isn't good enough).
Would have liked a winger too but hey, I'm still delightedly Boyd has gone so I can give the 3 key on my keyboard a rest.

Re: No further deals
I cannot believe some of the negativity on here. People are happy to not invest a little more to improve our squad. People are happy to sign squad players but no marquee signings. People are so negetive that they are happy with staying up and not even contemplating improving.

Re: No further deals
Its not been a bad transfer window, but with social media and the modern age of speculation I think some supporters get a little over excited and then get left disappointed.
Interestingly, the players we were heavily linked with, the ones we supposedly missed out on didn't go anywhere, they stayed at their respective clubs.

Re: No further deals
Bit of a sh** show tbh, bring in a foreign recruitment guy and sign 0 foreign based players, no central defender despite having about a year to plan for Keanes departure. We end up with 5 strikers when we have been only using 1 at a time. The only real positive is the signing of Cork. Wood and Taylor bring promise the rest are cheap uninspiring options.
After Garlicks interview in the summer I really though we'd bring in quality to slot straight into the starting 11 and we have bought 1. We're an injury to Mee away from relegation, that's how bad the Long/Tark partnership is.

Re: No further deals
Always feels disappointing when there is no exciting developments on deadline day but to suggest we have had a poor window is ridiculous. Yes only having 3 fulltime CB' s is a slight concern but all in all we look like a good team with good cover for pretty much all areas.

Re: No further deals
It's been a strange window, and no mistake.
Personally, I'm a bit concerned that K Long isn't up to the rigours of the PL. If we got an injury and a suspension, we could be in real trouble. The midfield / Marney situation of 2014 has made me nervous!
We don't appear to have too many genuine wide players either? Or has Wells been signed with that in mind. Maybe even Taylor, I suppose?
As always, time will tell. I just hope the CB situation doesn't come back to bite us in the arse...

At the end of last season we had Keane and Mee injured which meant Long and Tarky coming in.
If the same happens this season we'll have Long and Taylor coming in.
And that isn't f***ing good enough.
Re: No further deals
To feel the need to tweet at 2253 and say our dealings are over for the day, is quite telling.
Quite clearly, we have been making moves to bring at least a winger in, which would suggest Dyche has identified this as an area that needs strengthening. I wonder what he makes of this failure?
We have money, and tonnes of it, which for whatever reason we have not spent. To be again scrambling around on the final day, is ridiculous, especially when we have known for months where we are lacking.
Oh, and to not sign another CH is plain ******* stupid.
Edit- we were given a taste of a Tarkowski/Long partnership last season, and to run the risk of this happening again, when entirely avoidable, is just plain bizarre.

The signings we've made are decent (jurys out on nahki wells) however there are obvious gaps in our team that needed filling. With the stacks of cash lying around its inexcusable. CB was an absolute must. Garlick has not kept his word in the slightest. Eventually we will be punished for scrimping and scraping.
Today has been a total waste of time.
