Good luck today Lowerhouse
Good luck today Lowerhouse
Sadly I cannot make it to Old Trafford today, but I would just like to wish Lowerhouse all the best for todays game, and I hope everyone has a great day out whatever the end result.

Re: Good luck today Lowerhouse
I see they warmed up with a win against local rivals Burnley yesterday too.
Hope (now that's an appropriate word for Lowerhouse) they all have a good day and that the weather proves to be better than the forecast.

It was that!
The local wetherspoons near Old Trafford didn't know what hit it when they went off for rain. 2 on the bar and the woman behind it said, the football fans weren't as loud yesterday.

Shame maybe CT. but look at it like this,, 9 balls 9 overs or 90 overs , today a team of local amateur sportsmen as a team had the opportunity to run out onto the field of an international sports stadium to the cheer and adulation of an expectant crowd, This is something the vast majority of us will never have the opportunity to do in our entire lives.ClaretTony wrote:Real shame to lose the big day like that. Trust me having spoken to every one of them, regardless of the abandonment after 9 overs that moment will be a moment they will cherish for the rest of their lives.

Re: Good luck today Lowerhouse
I'm sure so - just thought it was a shame so many were there and didn't get the game of cricket they deserved. But for the lads playing, going out at OT must have been very special. The only thing I can liken it to personally is once batting with a future England international (Frank Hayes).RocketLawnChair wrote:Shame maybe CT. but look at it like this,, 9 balls 9 overs or 90 overs , today a team of local amateur sportsmen as a team had the opportunity to run out onto the field of an international sports stadium to the cheer and adulation of an expectant crowd, This is something the vast majority of us will never have the opportunity to do in our entire lives.

Re: Good luck today Lowerhouse
A great day out unfortunately ruined by the weather. Unfortunately though it wasn't helped one jot by LCC,who at the 1st sign of a spit of rain had the ground staff chomping at the bit (when a rain break occurred it wasn't the match wicket covered 1st) and a pitch inspection at 2:30 when an early lunch was taken at 1:15 (the players being off from 11:50),which meant that at least an hour was lost where there was no rain at all. Surely the pitch inspection could have taken place whilst the teams were having the early lunch.
Perhaps I'm being overly harsh though

You are not really surprised that they treated the first team wicket for tomorrow's top of the table clash as a priority are you?

Absolutely no surprise at all.Bordeauxclaret wrote:You are not really surprised that they treated the first team wicket for tomorrow's top of the table clash as a priority are you?
As soon as there was the first sign of any rain they were going to cover the wicket for the Lancs v Essex game and call off the Lowerhouse final. The game meant nothing to Lancs CCC compared to the one starting tomorrow.
But I bet you all had a great day out regardless.

A fantastic turn out from the House and a great atmosphere which was (unfortunately) spoiled by the weather, but as mentioned above the local 'Spoons did well out of it so every cloud....as they say!

Re: Good luck today Lowerhouse
Despite the weather yesterday was an absolutely fantastic day and one that the players will remember for ever.
Leaving Lowerhouse on the Oldham Athletic/Sale Sharks luxury team bus and arriving at OT to be given pretty much access all areas was fantastic.
The way Lancs CCC hosted it with the most minute of detail catered for is a credit to them and they certainly made the players feel very special.
The turn out from Lowerhouse was something else and the roar as the players took the field will live with me for a very long time.
Yesterday has certainly won the club many friends with players and spectators alike an absolute credit to the club and the Lancashire League.

Re: Good luck today Lowerhouse
It was 'lump in the throat' time when the players came out.
The noise was special. A broken down bus and the rain failed to dampen our spirits. The rammed 'Bishop Blaize' wetherspoons nearby was in full song even after the match had been abandoned.
Get to do it all again next Sunday at Blackpool CC which is an excellent ground.
Dilemma with the Clarets being at home ?
Na, I shall be at the seaside.

Photos will follow when I purchase another SD Card reader and charger which I lost at some point on Sunday.
Unable to purchase one today due to feeling 'a bit out of sorts'.
Vodka Officianado ? I have a working knowledge of the cheapest stuff available on the open market.

I have a great shot of the lads with the big Burnley FC / Lowerhouse CC flag in front of the broken down bus. Our 'Bus Steward' ran off and got a lift to Old Trafford whilst 84 of us were marooned on Lowerhouse Lane.
With Dunkirk Spirit we battled on with the alcohol and then, like a phoenix from the flames, those immortal words came into sight again: 'Moving People'.
Unbridled joy abounded. Grown men openly wept.

I don't know much about cricket as it bores me to death so please ignore my ignorance.
Why can't they play in the rain? Is it too dangerous? That might make it more interesting

A number of factors, usually the first is the run ups for the bowlers being too slippy.
When you have a rock hard ball flying at your face at 80MPH+, it can get slightly dangerous.

Nope he was training, but I watched the under 9's as some of them get pushed up a group, so was chatting to some of their dads I know.RocketLawnChair wrote:Just ask for Manage MACCA, Somebody will point you in my direction. Although he did play for the under 11 cubs last night that beat Burnley by 30 runs.
2 overs 2 for 5 was his bowling figures, as well as running 1 out, however he only managed 1 run and and out when batting
