Must Be Woods Tomorrow

Post by warksclaret » Sat Sep 09, 2017 11:41 am

Really admire Sean for his immense loyalty. It would however be like him to start with Vokes v Palace, but really hope Wood starts tomorrow. I was lucky to go to Spurs and when he came on his first touch was great and he found some great positions. Could have had a penalty too had the goalie mistimed things, and of course the winner, followed up by a hatrick for NZ. I think if we create enough chances he will convert. Can often see one substituting the other this season during games but CW is the real threat.

I think tomorrows game could be won in the first 20 minutes-we need to score first

The last two homes games against Palace indicates to me it will not be about the first 20 minutes at all, but the last few minutes that decides the outcome.

Wood looks very good, but I'd still start with Sam.
Chris's time will come, and it's always good to have a strong hungry player coming on for the last 20 mins.

The manager rightly takes player morale into consideration. Dropping Vokes would be saying, "You've lost your place", and he's done well so far this season. I'm sure Wood will know he's running Vokes close to a starting spot and just needs to keep going.

I expect us to play as we did at Palace last season.
Vokes and/or Barnes to rattle them for an hour or so, then bring Wood on to do what Gray did at their place.

Wood likely to start bearing in mind Vokes has played twice for Wales including a midweek trip to Moldova. Wood allowed back early by NZ. It's not really a question of dropping anyone. I think Vokes has gone from the starting line-up to the bench before immediately following an international break.

Wood's the better player and he should start. If you pick the team selection based on loyalty and not upsetting certain players you're not doing your job properly.

When ever Wood makes the starting 11, it won't be a case of Dyche lacking loyalty to Sam.

It's just the team, as a whole, growing and making progress as a group.

And that's got to be a good thing.

Based on what?

You want to drop our top goal scorer last season and leading one this season based on less than half a game against Spurs?

I'm so glad you aren't manager because you don't show loyalty to anyone and you'd lose the dressing room in no time.

People on here get really twitchy. I notice Coleman started with Robson Kanu on Tuesday and Sam was on the bench, and it was the right decision based on the previous two games.

Part of my reason for starting Wood was Sam's performance v WBA and his first 60 minutes v Spurs. Its a squad game. No one in the PL is guaranteed a start

I've always said Wood was a better player. Scored more goals for a worse team in the Championship. More strength, more pace, better finisher, better player all-round.

Dropping Vokes would be a poor decision, wood has played one league game for us, Sam deserves some loyalty make Wood wait, make him hungrier.. like someone said Wood's time will come,Sam should start tomorrow in my opinion

No, but he can't prove himself unless he plays. Dyche obviously thinks he's an upgrade on Vokes or he wouldn't have signed him. So if he's a better player lets put him straight in the team. It's not like Vokes impressed against West Brom or Spurs.

He signed him because he wanted another striker when it became clear Gray was off...

Doesn't mean he rates any more or less than Vokes.

Theres a reason we paid £15m for Wood and that's because he's better than what we have. OK being loyal but 3 points tomorrow gives early season confidence and just 33 then required for safety. Loyalty does not guarantee you points. Taking half chances does

We signed another striker because one wanted to leave.

The fee is irrelevant because it was the going rate as proven by other transfers for championship strikers this summer.

Loyalty doesn't guarantee points, you're correct, but Vokes' goals against Chelsea did.

Is there a song for Wood to be made out of the Proclaimers 500 miles...

Something like Chris Wood scores 100 goals and Chris Wood scores one hundred more?

I dunno maybe it's crap!

Yup he got us a point,I was there and saw it.

If you don't want Vokes to play or don't rate him now we've got Wood then just say so, but Vokes has shown he can score in this league in more than one appearance.
Wood will get a fair chance to show the same.

I think Wood will score goals, but Vokes has earned the right to be the first name on the team sheet even if you think otherwise.

They are both absolutely integral to the team and I am a big fan of Vokes-he typifies everything about the unity of the team, and will give you 100% every game

Its just that I feel from what I have seen of Wood and I saw him a number of times at Leicester in the PL as my family are season ticket holders for the Foxes, and tracked his progress at Leeds that he will be the best goal taker in the squad l. I remember how many chances we had v WBA.

I can remember loyalty keeping Steven Ward out of the team-Ben Mee kept him out until Christmas then we moved Ben inside and brought Ward in and did not lose again after Boxing Day

Barnes and Vokes to better the way through the ale house brawlers.
It's a shame it was switched as we can't get to Sunday games and watching on tv is nerve wracking.Somehow being a live games is easier.Although watching us in close games can be awful as well.

I agree 100% with this. Actually being at games gets you pleasantly revved up -though sometimes a bit anxious if we're hanging on at the end. Watching on TV is pure anxiety by comparison. I guess it's got something to do with not being able to bounce about and shout with the crowd etc.

Probably just as well I'm at a previously booked music event tomorrow and can just have the occasional score check whilst listening to some bands. Can watch the highlights later when I know the score- save the heart-rate going through the roof 13.30 to 15.30.

I read somewhere this week that Wells is close to being involved but have just read he'll be given time to get fully up to speed. More of a chuckle on the spelling of his name tbf.

Vokes brings other players into play, helps with defending (corners etc.) as well as causing defenders problems. Has Wood shown he can do these things as well as Vokes in our team yet? I don't think so. The team at the moment is set up to include Vokes.

I'd probably go with Vokes, and Arfield playing at the head of our midfield 3, but its not an easy decision.

It's either five typos, or it's a play on words based on the OP being keen on the selection of a player whose name he hasn't quite got. I suspect the latter.

I think arfield did well at spurs but I thought Westwood was very effective when he came on too. I'd be tempted to play him with cork and push defour further up the pitch.

I think Vokes will start but I can see the argument for Wood. Whatever happens I'd expect him to get half an hour at least.
