Wonder if he regrets not saving Woods goal and taking the red card?

Re: Hennessy
What was he doing out there, no chance of tackling Wood, he was absolutely nowhere.

Re: Hennessy
Within 3 minutes, going down to 10 men, I'm sure we would have ended up playing a lot better and beating them by more than the single goal.piston broke wrote:Wonder if he regrets not saving Woods goal and taking the red card?

Re: Hennessy
Woeful goalkeeping though. Didn't give himself a chance of stopping it by coming out of the area.
Re: Hennessy
He was no where near to challenge never mind a red.

If he had stayed in his area, at least he would have made wood make a decision, and his chances of keeping it out multiplied.
If our keeper had done the same, I would have been far from happy.

Re: Hennessy
Most goalkeepers would be just outside their area when the ball is with his team in the opposing half, as it was with Lee.
Hennessy was in a difficult position. Does he back pedal into his area so he can handle the ball but opens up the goal sides and still allows him to be lobbed. Or does he do what he did, steam out and try to unsettle Wood, and at the same time narrowing the angles and allowing defenders to come back? What he couldn't allow for was Wood's natural goal scoring instinct which allowed him to assess the situation quickly and without any hesitation just pass the ball around Hennessy.
It was brilliant from Wood and Hennessy could do nothing about it.

Re: Hennessy
Agree - Wood made it look a lot worse for Hennessey than it actually was. It's quite unusual for a striker in that situation to take a first time shot so you end up looking at where the 'keeper was when the ball went past him. If Wood takes a touch- Hennessey gets closer too him. Can't really pin any blame on the 'keeper though. As has been pointed out his natural position with his team in possession would have been around the edge of the box. No-one in the ground was expecting Lee's back-pass - superb anticipation by Wood.

Re: Hennessy
I was talking to a Leeds fan last week who told me that Wood is great with instinctive finishes but not so good in situations where he has time to think.MACCA wrote:If he had stayed in his area, at least he would have made wood make a decision, and his chances of keeping it out multiplied.

Both his finishes prove the first part of that correct.

Re: Hennessy
Difficult for Hennessy. If he backtracks he makes the target potentially bigger, if he handles it's a red. He probably shouldn't have come rushing out but what compsosure by Wood. I watched the Heracles v Feyenoord game Saturday and at 2-3 down, the Heracles keeper went up for a corner. Got caught on the break and was left in the Feyenoord half. He was still only on the half way line when Feyenoord made it 4-2. Sometimes you wonder what goes through a keepers mind.

Re: Hennessy
The goals nothing to do with hennesy or what he did wrong. It was just an absolutely top class finish from Wood. Not many forwards wouldve thought of and taken that chance on never mind scored it. Also worth noting the distance he was out. A great goal.

The OP is because he went with his head. It was an easy save with his hands but he chose not to take the red card.CFS wrote:He was no where near to challenge never mind a red.

Re: Hennessy
It was brilliant anticipation from Wood. He was ready to move when the back pass was made and he was already half way towards the ball before his "marker" started to move. Great finish too.

Re: Hennessy
I imagine quite a few forwards would have missed the target from that distance and put it wide.

Re: Hennessy
easy finish for wood, especially after hennessy made his mind up for him by coming out of the area.
Re: Hennessy
I'm surprised that his links to drugs haven't been given more attention by the authorities.
Listen to any rap or R&B track from the last 10 years and the mentions are rife. All these big shot dealers talking about their mate Henny, and some of them just made it clear as day by literally singing about Hennessy and Coke.

Andre Gray would've cushioned it and given away a Palace throw in.
Nice to see a home debut with a 35 yard goal whatever the circumstances.
Wood's settling in just nicely.
Re: Hennessy
Think he went over to pope after the match and had a word with him, presumably saying well done. Good on him for that. Think he had to come out for the goal

I loved his valiant "no hands" dive. Brought back memories of Billy the Fish.
