Re: Andre Gray
Fantastic piece of business. I'll always be thankful to him for his efforts in getting us back to the Premier League and in keeping us in it. However, we do play better without him and Wood is proving to be a good signing. Worked out well for us really.

Re: Andre Gray
Reminds me a bit of when we sold Austin.
We were a better team when Austin didn't play and we've been better off since he left.
Same probably applies to Gray, but his goals were needed at the time.

Re: Andre Gray
Fantastic in the Championship, generally poor in the Premier League. Unlike the rest of our squad who seem like a very decent bunch of lads, he also seemed like a bad egg.

That's hardly fair, bearing in mind his late start at high level football.bumba wrote:Surely potential has to stop at some point the guys 26, its his prime years.
The guys not premier league quality never has been never will be glad the claret tinted specs are coming off for most people on here now an everybody's realising what good business we've done
Anyway, he's just played against Manchester City. That's no game to make judgements about him.
Re: Andre Gray
Certainly had decent results with him in the team till yesterday, including a couple of good away wins. The lad is a goalscorer and could quickly bang 5 or 6 goals in that amount of games. We are obviously on a crest of a wave after particular the away results.Hopefully we will not have missed him by season end,but it is still early days for us and him.Just don't get all the criticism towards him and the told you so.5 games in that's all

I don't think judgement is just about his game against City. He's now played 5 games for Watford. I still think he's a good striker given the right service, but I rate Chris Wood more.Hipper wrote:Anyway, he's just played against Manchester City. That's no game to make judgements about him.

Re: Andre Gray
Good signing for us, at the time.
Had a huge part to play in our Championship Title.
Didn't do too bad last year, given what went on.
He'll score goals. But best for both us and him he moved on.

I'm another who appreciated Andre's contribution for us. Yes he was a bit surly at times but I didn't have him down as a bad egg. He seemed genuinely contrite about his homophobic tweets and is still developing as a man and a footballer. I'm not comfortable with revisionist history.

Bear in mind that three of his nine premier league goals came against a championship quality mackem team after their only decent centre back had been carted off .
I hope he has a half decent career from here and thank him for what he did BUT
a) I was a lot more ****** off when Andy gray left for Charlton and
b) I dont fancy his bird much. Or his back mural.

But I agree with above, there's no need to pretend he was rubbish now, he was great for us and never seemed to have an attitude on the pitch so I don't know where that idea has come from. As for stuff about his money, girlfriend and lifestyle - just try being a bit less jealous.

Re: Andre Gray
The club have played a blinder with this transfer, it is the best bit of business since the Wayne Thomas to Southampton transfer.
We have effectively got a better footballer in Wood and £3m profit, very good swop.
Doesn't surprise me he hasn't scored as he's not a footballer in the true sense, more a finisher from through balls, first touch incredibly poor for a forward.
If he works massively hard on his touch he could still come good tho, head was turned by big bucks and London lifestyle, the signs for him don't look good tho.

Re: Andre Gray
I'm not sure about him not having an attitude on the pitch. Every time he scored he gestured to our fans by cupping his ears. It's nothing to get upset about but it's hardly surprising that he didn't endear himself to the fans in the same way that almost all of our other players do.NottsClaret wrote:Aye, but has wasn't playing against any of their teams from the last 10 years, just that useless one that rocked up on the day.

I suspect that a lot of his energy is being used
in other areas, one good game three bad games, he is where he should be, close to London.

Re: Andre Gray
Andre was great in the Championship, scored some important goals last season in the six-pointer games, but he didn't want to commit to a new deal, better in the long run for us to cash in.18 million for a player in the final year of his contract is as good as we could expect.

Not my favorite player, but certainly did his bit for us during the last 2 seasons.
Good deal for both himself and the club.
Let's just hope he doesn't find his scoring boots against us.

How sad that some fans are obsessed in rubbishing an ex-player. He's played 5 games so far for his new club and he may or may not yet become successful. Clearly some are desperate to see him fail.
He served us extremely well in the Championship and played a major part in our return to the Prem. We didn't play to his strengths last season and so didn't get the best out of him. I for one am glad we signed him and wish him well in his future career.

Nonsense, most of us said he couldn't trap a bag of cement after his first few games. We all acknowledge he did well for us and helped us get promoted etc, but don't kid yourself, he's an absolute bang average footballer at best - that's not rubbishing an ex player it's just reiterating what plenty of us have said since he signed for us.3putt wrote:How sad that some fans are obsessed in rubbishing an ex-player. Have been a football fan for a long time and am fully aware (especially on message boards) that some fans are passionately negative about players as others are passionately positive.
As I said, sad that some can't even let it go even when a payer has left - desperate to reiterate how poor a player was.

Apologies - your stat suggested to me that he'd scored 10 in the Prem.agreenwood wrote:He scored 9 in the league and 1 in the cup. That's 10, which is double figures. Last season was his first in the Prem.
I'm therefore assuming that if he'd scored 3 against Stanley and 3 against Lincoln in the cups and then 4 in the Prem last year you'd still have suggested he'd got double figures in his first season in Prem......?
Fair enough I suppose

You need to differentiate between someone unnecessarily bashing a player (which we agree does happen) and observational opinion based on facts.
Respectfully, a football fan of many years should be able to see that Andre really cannot trap a ball with enough accuracy at Premier League level
Re: Andre Gray
In the Watcord Observer tbeir fans are berating him, calling for Deeney to start and making comments like Burnley must be laughing all the way to the Bank. A few say he looks too bulky. Maybe the tattoos are weighing him down.RVclaret wrote:There's a rather funny thread on twitter by Watford fans discussing Gray's 'first touch'.
It shows, up to now anyway, with a few players that have moved 'up' the grass is not always greener

Clearly Gray's control was a weakness in his game, but I am definitely in the camp that believes the service he received last season was really poor. I also see his strengths in him being a powerful, fast player with a real eye for goal and a good finisher. You have to remember that he was a late starter in professional football and perhaps still needs time to develop at this level. He definitely has the potential to be a successful striker in the Prem which may or may not happen. But I wouldn't write him off after only 5 games at his new club.
Personally I don't see the need for a thread like this whether it is bashing him or making negative observations about a player that has only just left and by and large did well for us.

Re: Andre Gray
Though he isn't blessed with a great 1st touch he did bloody well for us ,and the service he received was atrocious for much of last season often he got little more than scraps to feed on. That said he put too much muscle on and I'm amazed a coach hasn't reduced his bulk. Be interesting to see how he fares as season progresses though never felt he was quite "prem" level hel always score goals somewhere for sure .

Re: Andre Gray
I have nothing against Gray, he was paid to do a job and he did it. He contributed with that goals won us the Championship and kept us in The Premier League.
It was disappointing to have him suspended for some tweets from a lifetime ago and I still don't think Burnley FC should've been punished for that.
Sticking with his people from his past, but were all guilty of that. I know some right knobs, but they're a mate.
Pop star girlfriend, fair enough. Moved to another club for more money, fair enough.
By only beef with Gray is how he cupped his ears towards Burnley supporters when he scored, and he did it a few times. He obviously struggles with criticism - fair or unfair and I think that sort of attitude alienates fans from the players more than anything.
Vokes doesn't do it, or Barnes, or Ings didn't, neither did Austin or Jay.
Hopefully we won't see that sort of attitude from wood or Wells

There's no doubting the fact that he was a vital part in our success story so far, but
to label him a footballer is stretching it somewhat. He is 26 and will not, nay cannot,
develop any further. Mark my words.
