Our most improved player
Our most improved player
Who is our most improved player since winning the Championship title?
Lowton for me, he was getting absolutely torched in the early part of last season, looked miles out of his depth. Now he's like a young Gary Neville. His crossing needs work but defensively solid. I cant remember the last bad game from either fullback, Lowton certainly underrated.

Lowton is a good shout and he did better as last season went on. Ward was also better than i would have expected throughtout last season - he was brilliant.

Re: Our most improved player
Steven Defour is massively improved on last season - though he still showed his class when he started. But, of course, Defour was signed after we won the Championship - as were several of our very exciting team. Amazing to think how many good players we've added.
James Tarkowski deserves the biggest shout. He couldn't get in the team at centre back (who was it keeping him out?) and now he's producing motm performances.

Re: Our most improved player
That's another thing that I like about Dyche & the coaching team; our players actually get better!
Far to often coaches look to sell and upgrade, why not... you know, coach them and make them better players?!

Re: Our most improved player
I agree with Paul, but I think a lot of that is down to morale and how he was feeling. He now seems like he's clearly in a better place and happier to be here, which is why we're seeing his true class.
There's only one word to explain that - omelette.

Re: Our most improved player
There's quite a few who are looking noticeably better this season.
Can only be good for the rest of the team.

Has any player not got better under Dyche? I'm voting for all of them.

in the current group we still have - only Ulvestad has not developed enough to be considered a potential matchday squad memberQuicknick wrote:Has any player not got better under Dyche? I'm voting for all of them.

Ward easy
Re: Our most improved player
I think Ward had a better career before joining Burnley than Lowton which is why I chose Lowton as the most improved. I thought Ward was excellent at Stoke in the relegation season, shame he got injured that season.ayrshireclaret83 wrote:Ward easy

Re: Our most improved player
I actually think Ashley Barnes. When he's brought on as a substitute he clearly changes the dynamic of the game, and he's taking the "foul or be fouled" objective out of his repertoire

Re: Our most improved player
I was once a Lowton doubter but that seems like ages ago.
Ward has been consistently sound since he got back into the side, two seasons ago.
But big up for Tark so far.

knew it, someone was bound to post this, ...basically format is slag him off as a championship under achiever, then claim hes progressing because he bangs one in v liverpool. Hes always been good, never credited enough for his contributions.BleedingClaret wrote:Arfield

So you're slagging him off for saying Arfield has improved?

What's great about this is so many names mentioned. That's how it should be. It shows we have one hell of a squad.

course I am, he was an ever present last season as a topic for being slagged off for being useless.starting_11 wrote:So you're slagging him off for saying Arfield has improved?

Re: Our most improved player
I agree Lowton has improved but I wouldn't go as far as saying I wouldn't worry about him. He still makes more mistakes than ward and is significantly worse at crossing and heading than ward.
But he's also younger so let's hope his improvement continues.

Re: Our most improved player
Not even close to slagging him off, came on a free and competing side by side with 5 to 15 million pound players so from signing on a free as an unwanted reject to scoring at Anfield is immense.Wile E Coyote wrote:knew it, someone was bound to post this, ...basically format is slag him off as a championship under achiever, then claim hes progressing because he bangs one in v liverpool. My electing him is more about the fact that he was written off by most as having had his day with us and we needed to move onwards and upwards and since the Blackburn game he's been really good and cemented his place in the team.

Re: Our most improved player
Ward for me has been superb since the moment he signed, I think he wouldn't be mentioned on this thread if it wasn't for the injury he got against Newcastle in Dyche's first PL season, as he was already performing great. For me his form has just been a continuation of that ever since, consistency personified.
Lowton though, he has improved immeasurably I feel on the same player we had in the Championship. I think since about halfway through last season he has begun to look a highly confident player and defensively much sounder than he was. He will never be Trippier going forward, but he has also improved that part of his game too.
I think we have a really solid pare of full backs, and Taylor/Bardsley is good backup too.

Re: Our most improved player
The team itself. I can't imagine looking at my three daughters and wondering who is the most intelligent, or funniest.
Re: Our most improved player
Lowton for me, used to shudder when the ball went in his area, now I don't.
Re: Our most improved player
I am surprised Heaton hasn't been mentioned yet. Yes he has been fantastic for us throughout the years.
But the last 2 seasons he has truly shown that he has improved into game winning goal keeper!
