Thanks for that link. They've even vandalized a street sign. Like I said, it's an insult to Basquiat, it could be deemed racist and it's an insult to the police and it's disrespectful and cheapo. 0/10 for that, w@nksy.

Also round the corner from me
Today both murals have been covered with clear perspex in order to protect them
Presumably so that the council can remove them before they get damaged then flog them off

I've had a look at Basquiat Pstotto, don't quite get it.
Banksy by a mile, but that's art; I don't like Reubens or van Gogh either.
Each to their own.

Bloody hell, there's some pretentious crap on this particular thread/topic.
To me, you either like it, or you don't. If it needs explaining, then it's pointless.

That might be OK for the casual spectator but not when serious wads of money are involved, we're talking £100 million now for living artist's pictures, there's quite a bit of difference between that and a clip round the ear from Sir for a sketch in your rough book at school.
I haven't been to the show yet, but I will have a look. His skull picture is rubbish. banksy is quite clearly establishment, in fact I think it's Damien Hirst INC. especially from what croydon says.

Watched a documentary style film a fee years back called Exit through the Gift Shop which gave a look into graffiti etc ..... See if you can hunt it down as it is a great little watch.Pstotto wrote:That might be OK for the casual spectator but not when serious wads of money are involved, we're talking £100 million now for living artist's pictures, there's quite a bit of difference between that and a clip round the ear from Sir for a sketch in your rough book at school.

Thanks for linking your story. Too long for a personal watch right now, though, as it's 90 minutes.

It's feature length and I definitely reccomend it whenever you have time. Is an indie documentary that caused quite a stir so I'm guessing it's right up your street.

Liked Banksy since the first time I saw the teddy bear riot painting in Bristol 20 years ago.

Funkydrummer, if you look at post29 it says 'I 'll let my art do the talking (re-your post 55), so how about a like for that, eh????????
Banksy is a graphic artist of the naughty postcard variety, which is fair enough, but to lord it as great art is just the bathos of the ignorant, like David Shrigley, another of those types. it's just basic art foundation course creativity taking something out of context. It's funny a bit and witty a bit, but it's just silly jokes. I'm not against it per se, it's just being used to bash Fine Art by the media, who want to claim the graphic power of the visual for themselves.

Personally love banksys art work. Seen a few in this country. Saw some last week in palestine and think theyre brilliant. Irrespective of whether you agree with the messages they are clever / witty and creative.

I disagree, I think he's agitating without any content, it's just trite. Clever and creative and witty pratdom, I reckon. That doesn't impress me, he's adding to conflict and stirring sh*t, in my view.

Lucky you, you just missed spending £40 on a bore draw. That should be enough for a few drinks by the pool.
Re: New Banksy mural
I'm not sure anyone claims he is a truly great fine artist. He's more in the tradition of Gilray, Cruikshan or even Hogarth. He's a commentator on modern life and politics. Because he is easy to understand and populist his voice his heard and he does make people think about or question the world around them. You cannot really ask more than that, can you? Unless you are looking for an artist who is going to give you the answers?

I have the army man being searched, the police searching a child and the protester throwing the flowers on my wall.
I like his thought provoking political commentary. Art is personal, I like self explanatory art, I visited the Tate last month and respect different artist/art forms but i prefer it to be simple.

... Not from that ridiculous picture of the Dalai Lama zapping Peter Beardsley gratuitously and thinking it a laugh. He was one of our greatest England internationals of the past few decades.

Re: New Banksy mural
I'm too ill to work regardless of whether I take Spice or not, but I think I should retire from the pastime immediately. I feel like my insides are being clawed with a rake. I just pray the damage isn't permanent. It really is smoking poison. Anyone could put anything in it, I'm sure my interior is full of blisters. I've got some medication to help me through (hopefully it will work.)
Re: New Banksy mural
By the way, if Okse really did do that before Banksy then maybe there's grounds for copyright infringement.

Lubaina Himid won the Turner Prize to the chimes of Radio One Extra as a political sop for the UK to secure Nigerian oil, that's what all this black power media drive is all about. It's just the same as Hancock paid to do comic sketches dissing the railways in advance of the Beeching cuts.
She was also chosen specifically to destroy my creative practice because I was in contact with the Tate, the summer before she was selected with a view to showing my newspaper art. My work is too politically sensitive because it undermines the power of the graphic media machine, through visualizing something greater. She has done some utterly crap work on newspapers which you can see online maybe (search.) The hope was to cover 'newspaper art' so that it appears 'to have been done already' to deflect from the power of my art revealing a transcendental order/object. They want to have that to beat us up with using a 'media-as-Phobos' strategy to hypnograph us all to sleep. Here is what they don't want you to see:
Think motorcycle aesthetic.
