A Football Today podcast looking at - Tony Bloom: The Betting Guru Running Brighton - should be informative as it features the Athlectic's Brighton specialist Andy Naylor who has been reporting on the club for around 3 decades I believe

A really interesting webinar from two of the academics I quote from on this thread from time to time @DrRob_Wilson and @Parnell_Daniel talk Premier League, Coronavirus and Player Salaries (though it goes into much more)

you have to register but it is free - sound quality a bit iffy but worth the almost 40 minutes to get to some great discussion areas - the last 15 minutes is deeply thought provoking

John Mehrzad QC with a new legal thread covering the discussions between the Premier League and players today

https://twitter.com/JohnMehrzadQC/statu ... 1364128769

The interesting point comes in the discussion at the end - if Furloughing constitutes State aid - some clubs likely to be fined after all this by UEFA/FIFA

Has UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin set a deadline for when the current season has to end, whether complete or not

https://www.express.co.uk/sport/footbal ... e-deadline

with a reasonable possibility of future lockdowns after this one, should a new season be devoid of all cup competitions to allow leagues and therefore clubs to survive if a new pause is required?

John Nicholson follows Saturday's article (which has suddenly gained traction on here) with this "The Premier League has stench of decadence’s decay…"

https://www.football365.com/news/premie ... -nicholson

as ever no punches pulled

It does not seem that long ago that he wrote that four part "manifesto" though, it may have been early last summer, which was almost excerpts from his then soon to be published book. The current situation seems to have given him new fire.

Economic Profitability is not everyone's favourite measure of fiscal performance, but this tweet from vysyble underlines the mess football was in before the pandemic - only 8 clubs that haven been in the top 2 tiers of English football in the last 5 full seasons have achieved Economic Profitability over that period

New indictments in the US relating to bribes of FIFA ExCo members re Russia and Qatar world Cup votes - two disgraced former members charged again

https://twitter.com/danroan/status/1247280706352492547

As @SportingIntel notes the contents of these charges are gobsmacking in their directness - the current FIFA administration, though much changed (in personnel) is still intrinsically linked to Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022

https://twitter.com/sportingintel/statu ... 7086216192

There are other charges too relating to bidding for tv rights in the same offical's regions

Much has been made if Premier League players not aquiescing to the clubs desire for a 30% pay cut, with many citing Juventus, Barcelona and Germany players. Well it turns out that similar lack of trust to that found in our country exists in Italy, where the players association have rejected a similar request from Serie A clubs as unworkable

This article in the Mail gives estimations as to the financial loss to each Premier League club if the season is cancelled

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footb ... ID-19.html

I must say I find a lot of the numbers a little strange as well as our high position in the loss league table even though @SportingIntel (who provided them) suggests they are illustrative rather than definitive

Particularly strange is the suggested hit on our Commercial and retail income - last year they totalled almost £14m this suggests we will lose £12.5m in what is left of the season - either our commercial income has grown massively ( a few hundred %) or this is just a careless approach to matching the club stated at the weekend

Look at the total loss for Burnley - exactly £50m. Just the same as the club published at weekend. What they've done IMO is take the club's total figure as being right, used their own computations for TV money, and put the balancing figure into commercial income.

Those estimates are by @SportingIntel that were referred to on that Clarets facing £50m loss thread on Saturday to raise doubt about the clubs figures - I questioned them in that thread and the stuff added here just makes me question it more - just a shame as he is a knowledgeable and experienced chap

Garlick has clarified the £50m figure, it's a worse case scenario if this season is cancelled and there is no sight of the following season starting.

It is a real shame as both Nick Harris and Ian Ladyman are good journalists with strong and long records on these kinds of matters - I personally think Harris has got trapped in a single line of thought rather than explored the options

- some of that may be editorial, the Mail has been turning out a slew of articles on the financial nuances on a daily basis, with writers turning out for more copy than usual - Martin Samuel has done 3 opinion pieces in 3 days, he normally does one a week. It will no doubt be impacting on quality. It is not just the Mail either, The Telegraph are ferreting the same hole.

Interesting move - will he be asking Premier League owners/Chief Execs to match - Taylor makes personal £500k donation to Premier League NHS fund

https://www.skysports.com/football/news ... arity-fund

of course the Premier League do fund his £2m salary

Should add that Taylor said over a year ago he would stepdown after a sequence of events including an enquiry - none have which have started and it is still difficult to imagine when or even if they will begin.
