Poppy Badges 2017
This year's metal poppies. The Royal British Legion is this year producing poppy badges with Premier League football club emblems attached. Not sure what to think really, but if it makes them extra money, why not? https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/premie ... 50-2797007" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Poppy Badges 2017
I gave up wearing a Poppy years ago. I still donate every year but find the whole 'Wear Your Poppy with Pride' stuff a bit oppressive and symptomatic of how I think the First World War is being misremembered and misrepresented.
I think this effort is fairly tasteless, but I'm sure it will be a winner with some.

Instead of the yearly argument for or against poppies, can the Mods just cut and paste last years thread and have done with it.

Re: Poppy Badges 2017
I do wear a poppy, it's my choice just as it is anyone else's choice right not to wear one.
But one thing I won't be doing is wearing one like this - I agree with Lord Beamish in thinking it is tasteless.

Don't like the idea if honest but will be wearing my badge from last year like it because it is much smaller, although it does feel like I'm commemorating the anniversary of the Easter uprising rather than the Somme. I will still be putting my donations in the box though as always.

I donate and wear mine but am not into this commercialisation of it all. I'd rather wear it and remember in private, as I'm sure most who wear them would.

I don't think saying you don't like something is moaning as such and no one is moaning on here up to your post. It is the same as if you agree with something it doesn't make you a happy clapper. If you like it Cricketfield then good on you, I preferred the pin badges from last year personally but hey everyone to there own and all that.

Re: Poppy Badges 2017
If 20 people wear a poppy, it's cool. If 20million wear it, it's over publicised.
I'll be wearing the paper one, I'll be wearing a metal one, I'll be wearing one that may or may not be joined to my clubs badge, and I'll be wearing forever the one that is tattooed on my back, along with the ode of remembrance. It will never be tasteless to show you won't let the sacrifices made by better men be forgotten. In my humble opinion, it's pretty damn tasteless to suggest anything driven by the legion in this regard is in poor taste.
Remember how you want. Wear a poppy, don't wear a poppy, but remember.

I like all my money to go to the British legion not postal charges. The men and women who died or who were injured and rely on the BL did it for British people and humanity not for football allegiances.

Filled in all areas to order 2 pins for shipping to CANADA BUT 28.00 Pounds is too much for shipping, I really would like 2 Burnley poppy pins is there another way to get them.Hendrickxz wrote:This year's metal poppies. Re: Poppy Badges 2017
I wear a poppy, don't care if you don't, but what does get my goat a little is people that attach them to them front of their car and then can't be bothered to take them off and they slowly rot. Hardly a fitting tribute.

Re: Poppy Badges 2017
I don't understand why poppies are so controversial. Surely all British people support the British legion. As for the type of poppy people wear, does it really matter as long as the charity has benefited from it's purchase?

Re: Poppy Badges 2017
Up to a couple of years back I did a lot of international travel. I always enjoyed wearing my poppy (in early Nov) and being asked why I was wearing it.
In France a blue cornflower is the symbol to commemorate WW1 deceased.

I put the link to the BFC version on Burnley Past and Present group on fb and so far responses have been 100% favourable that it is not tacky.

Re: Poppy Badges 2017
I like the idea, however I don't like the design of the Burnley badge. It would look much better if it was in the same style as the Arsenal, Hull & Middlesbrough ones instead of the badge within a cheap looking white circle.
I'll stick to the two separate badges, plus, I'll be wearing the poppy I purchased last year which was made from the shell fuses collected from the battlefields at the Somme.
