Retrospective diving ban
Retrospective diving ban
Just watching the Huddersfield player dive for a penalty and get booked.
However, if the ref had been fooled and he'd given a penalty it would have been a retrospective two match ban.
It seems strange that the retrospective penalty is so much more severe than if the ref has seen it.

I've just posted on the match thread - only get your booking if you're seen by the ref. It's hardly a deterrent is it.

Re: Retrospective diving ban
Not really a deterrent at all as it stands. Worth taking one for the team if a dive results in a penalty. Worry about the ban later

Disgraceful dive and an even worse rule.

3 points and a 2 game ban or a yellow card... doesn't really need a lot of thinking about does it.
Typical FA - half arsed and ill thought.

Sean Dyche far from happy with it

Re: Retrospective diving ban
i've been on about this for years.
con the ref and the defender is off. don't con the ref and yellow card.
the current rules are in favour of cheating.
what do fifa do all day? apart from the cocktail parties i mean.

Re: Retrospective diving ban
Surely the 'diving panel' could review all diving incidents - whether they were punished by the referee or not. Then a player will still get a 2 game ban if found the ref called it correctly and if it is deemed the referee called it wrong then the yellow card could be rescinded.

Wagner said of it: “I was too far away and Sean was even further away than I was. I haven’t seen it again but I have spoken with Van La Parra and it was a dive. It was nothing we like to see. He gets booked, he gets a fine and we go on.”

Re: Retrospective diving ban
Diving and obstruction, biggest problems for me.
Blocking a player from the ball for a goal kick needs to change. A striker should be allowed 2 foot tackles if a defender is blocking the ball.

Re: Retrospective diving ban
He dived he got caught he got booked what more do we want. Ours and their back four throw themselves to the floor all the time when an attacker breathes on them an noone gives a hoot.
I guess the rule is there so if you do fool the ref and get a game changing decision you and the club can at least get a decent punishment in retrospect.
Should Mee be getting a ban after he threw himself down for nothing under the slightest pressure near the touchline and got a free kick by the longside in the 2nd half?

Re: Retrospective diving ban
Don't you want to see diving stamped out of the game? It would seem fairly simple and logical for the diving review panel to be able to review dives which were punished by a yellow card, and if deemed the correct decision then a ban to be handed out. It seems very odd and nonsensical that only divers which weren't punished by a yellow card can be banned.Devils_Advocate wrote:He dived he got caught he got booked what more do we want. They should hang him to death imo. Arguments will take place about whether he should be drawn and quartered, but that's secondary.

Re: Retrospective diving ban
My point is that gamesmanship/cheating is all over the game but we only care and focus on a specific type. Attackers get pulled kicked elbowed nipped and have defenders diving at the slightest touch but noone cares about this form of cheating.
Also defenders are the biggest divers of the lot when if they are shielding the ball at the slightest touch they go down like they are shot.
If we wanna stamp out gamesmanship/cheating then im happy if we do it consistently but currently that is not the case. What I do appreciate is if a form of cheating makes a real impact to the result of the game then lets have the power to hit them hard retrospectively and that is what the new rule does
The Huddersfield players dive had no more impact than Mee's dive at the back so why should one deserve more attention than the other?

The fact that you only get a 2 match ban if you benefit from it is incredibly dumb. They should just get a 2 match ban regardless.

Re: Retrospective diving ban
I see Vardy did one of his trademark wrap his foot round the defenders leg routine and then fall over. He won the freekick and got the defender booked. No mention of that from Gary Linekar and fellow presenters.

Re: Retrospective diving ban
none of the rules make sense
if you are a defender and cheat by pulling down or fouling a player who is clean through you get sent off and banned.
if you are an attacker and cheat its usually a slap on the wrist.
a rule that would change things overnight is to send the diver off or/and give a penalty at the other end.....
diving would be the last thing on an attackers mind.

Re: Retrospective diving ban
Agree with Dyche. The problem is there are managers and coaches who positively encourage gamesmanship. Arsenal and Chelsea are almost masters of the art form. It'd have to be a directive from FIFA/UEFA and or the FA. I can't see the majority of managers voting for retrospective punishment as they'd lose half their best players most of the time.
It is a part of the game that needs stamping out though and retrospective action in the form of a ban seems the only way to stop them.

Seems not all ref’s got the memo.

Re: Retrospective diving ban
Always riled me diving. As stated a simple yellow card is no deterrent. Justice would be done if the ref awarded a penalty to the opposing team .... that would soon sort out the cheats.
