Pope 7 - some solid saves, palmed the ball away from danger.
Lowton 5 - switched off for the last 20-30 mins
Mee 7 - minus 1 for terrible distribution
Tarkowski 7
Ward 7
Brady 6 - some good ideas but a bit 'wet' with some of his touches.
Defour 8 - best player on the pitch
Cork 7 - shame that he got booked early, felt like he broke up play and read the game well
Arfield 7 - ran hard and direct, put a shift in.
Hendrick 4 - normally a Jeff fan but he wasn't at the races today
Wood 6 - got into good positions & pressed well, didn't get enough support at times.

Pope 7 - did what he had to do
Lowton 8 - good display
Tarkowski 7
Mee 7
Ward 7 all defence decent enough
Brady 4 - yet another poor performance
Arfield 5 - no point trying fancy stuff when you aren't winning
Defour 8* - the only one showing any initiative
Cork 6 - not as good today
Hendrick 5 - didn't do much
Wood 5 - given no chance whatsoever

Pope 6 couple of good routine saves and catches, anxious when we passed back to him
Lowton 6
Ward 6
Mee 6
Tarks 6
Cork 6 poor in possession but ratted around
Defour 9 MOM by a country mile
Brady 6
Arfield 6 tried very hard to make things happen
Hendrick 6 I am a fan but looks out of the game at the top of the midfield
Wood 6 did ok

Higher scores for Mee than I expected. I thought it was easily his worst performance this season.

Airfield was shocking from my view, unless Dyche told him to stop playing on the wing and go central so more of a 4 4 1 1 if he did who ever was supposed to run the wing was obviously not aware as countless time we had no outlet as no winger was there

No way should Mee be getting 7s today. Defensively he wasn't really troubled, but his eye for a pass and subsequent distribution was woeful.
Tarkowski, fairly similar, but I don't think he gave the ball away as frequently or cheaply as Ben.

Arfield was fine today and certainly better than some others. He did play centrally often but surely under instruction. Hendrick should have come off early for JBG and Arfield could've played off the striker, though I don't think that should've been Wood.

Really poor team display. The passing from the back was awful. The passing from the wings was awful. The crosses from the wings nonexistent.

Wood was far too isolated
The only positives were the display of Defour and a clean sheet for Pope.

Must do better against teams likely to be around us.

Pope 7 - consistent and reliable
Lowton - 7 - solid but nothing to get excited about
Mee - 7 see Lowton
Tarks 7 - see Mee
Ward - 8 - thought he did very well and was a threat going forward
Brady - 6 - very disappointing
Cork - 7 - think the early booking probably affected him
Hendrick - 5 - very poor, almost anonymous
Defour - 8 - great covering and our only real creative outlet
Arfield - 7 - worked his socks off and some of attempted dummies and plays were clever
Wood - 5 - disappointing

Not arguing with a point, but 1 goal in 3 home games (and a goal which was gifted to us) is a concern. Both EFL goals were set pieces. So no goals from open play.

Udders were just that little bit sharper all over the pitch today. We moved the ball about well at times but that last touch/ball just escaped us. couple of players seemed below par, but Defour was head and shoulders above anyone else today

Pope 7 - some regulation saves, palmed the ball away apart from once where we got away with it.
Lowton 6 - What was that throw in. Other than that did ok
Mee 7
Tarkowski 7
Ward 7 worked his side well with little support.
Brady 6 - just seems to disappear at times.
Defour 9 - sniffed out the danger moves and stuffed them out just as Barton used to.
Cork 8 - I have been really impressed with him, today's card made him less effective.
Arfield 6 - another dodgy throw -in, was doing fancy moves instead of controlling the ball.
Hendrick 4 - Jeff you need to pull your socks up, that was just way off the standards you have set before.
Wood 6 - Poor lad isolated and feeding off scraps, need to see a replay but should have scored with his header

Brady, Cork and Hendrick didn't fire today. A poor game but, we didn't lose. I would have taken 9 points from the first 6 games before the season started. An average of a point a game will see us safe.

Got to say I thought Jorgensen was excellent in defence for Huddersfield. Hardly gave Wood a sniff.

Lowton 6 but didn't really offer enough. I think Bardsley will be nearer to a start

Defour 8 motm excellent performance and looks fully fit
Hendrick 5 not at it
Arfield 7
Wood 6 isolated and a bit of a thankless task

Subs : no impact
I think another poster summed it up nicely' we easily drew'. If we were still playing we wouldn't have scored as we were so poor in final third. Don't think they would have either. We played some good stuff first half but second half was not entertaining at all.

We are all entitled to our opinions but I find a 6 for Defour remarkable. He was the best player on the pitch. Thought Mooy looked very good for them.

Poor game plan. Gave Huddersfield far too much respect and we should not be happy with a point at home to them.

Pope 7
Lowton 6
Tarks 5
Mee 5
Ward 7 inc 1 for cross that Wood missed
Brady 6
Defour 8 MOM
Cork 6
Hendrick 4
Arfield 6
Wood 4

4-5-1 at home to Huddersfield is just wrong

Can't really disagree with the managers analysis to be honest, thought we controlled it but didn't do enough to win it. Saying that, i doubt Wood will get an easier header to score all season and it was an miraculous bit of blocking to stop him having a tap in so fair play to Hudds for that. Defour was head and shoulders the best player on the pitch and at the end of the day, nine points from six games is still a brilliant start

Pope 7
Ward 6
Mee 6
Tarkowski 6
Lowton 5 - bad pass and a terrible throw. Most un-Matty like
Arfield 7 - not bad I thought
Defour 9* - covered everything and ran the show
Cork 7 - good, but a couple of mis-controls when we were in good positions
Brady 7 - some good, some not so good but one of our better outlets
Hendrick 5 - one good run in the 2nd half. Has to do better than this to be fair
Wood 6 - fluffed his big chance, but he was there to fluff it, if you see what I mean!

Subs
all seven

Bit meh, but the reality is that teams respect us at home and will set up accordingly.

A very uninspiring performance, and I'm not sure that Dyche's post match assessment was especially honest, bar his praise for Defour. There's always a team who starts well but ends up right in the mire by late autumn, and on that evidence its more likely to be us than Huddersfield.

Pope - 7 - Pretty competent in the air, and a couple of decent saves. Showed decent composure coming out of his area to deal with danger too, and two clean sheets in two home games is an excellent start so his confidence and command of his area should begin to grow.

Lowton - 6 - Thought he might have been a bit more positive going forwards occasionally, and Huddersfield had more joy down that side.

Ward - 7 - Produced our best cross of the day for Wood in the first half, and generally got forward to some effect whilst keeping the back door bolted.

Tarkowski - 6 - No great problems, but some of his distribution was disappointingly aimless. He has the ability to switch play with really good raking balls - we used it once in the first half, but never saw it again and it ought to have been part of the key to getting round the outside of Huddersfield.

Mee - 6 - Solid enough but another whose distribution was aimless at times.

Cork - 5 - Some nice flashes, but I thought he was a bit ponderous at times.

Defour - 8 - Showed his class. Could be forgiven for being hugely frustrated with the failure of those around him to respond to his promptings, but he kept on going, covering every blade of grass and showing a level of imagination noone else around him could match. A really good test to show how much fitter, stronger and sharper he is this season than last: he dealt with Huddersfield's impressive pressing game really well.

Hendrick - 5 - Slightly leggy after his injury lay off, and really not helped by playing in an advanced role that I don't think particularly suits him - he's an orthodox central midfielder, best facing the game, not an auxiliary forward to be deployed fighting for second balls or receiving the ball with his back to goal. No coincidence his best two moments of the game came when he dropped deeper, and drove forwards and swapped passes with those ahead of him.

Arfield - 6 - I can only assume Dyche instructed him to play so narrow and close to Wood with a view to him getting knock downs, so I can't blame him for our lack of width. He proved far more adept than any of our attackers at finding space between the lines of the Huddersfield defence, even if it rarely came off for him because of how congested and incoherent our attack became: too often it was about individuals trying to do things alone rather than a team move.

Brady - 5 - Made some decidedly odd decisions at times and I'm not sure he delivered a single decent ball in from open play, not produced a single meaningful shot.

Wood - 4 - At times the service into him wasn't great, but if the game plan was for him to link with Hendrick and Arfield running off him, we'd have been better off with Vokes. Far too often, the ball bounced off him and the link up between him and his fellow strikers was incoherent.

Barnes - 5 - Didn't do anything to change the direction of the game, although it wasn't his fault that the change to 4-4-2 heralded an even greater disparity between the long balls being pumped forwards by most of the team, and the attempts of Defour to play constructively.

JBG - 6 A couple of OK touches, but no real opportunity to influence the game.

I think Dyche deserves to be questioned a bit tonight. 4-5-1 appears to be the shape that most suits most of our players, but given the lack of pace in our attacking midfield options we're interpreting it as two rigid banks of 4 with one midfielder tucked behind a striker. In that shape, Arfield doesn't really suit being the winger (he doesn't have the pace to make runs beyond the striker whilst also being able to offer a bit of width), and Hendrick isn't a natural for the forward midfield role - he's better facing the game than trying to pick the ball up off the striker or with his back to goal.

Our intent in the first half to play through Cork and Defour was pleasing to see, but we were constantly restricted by both that lack of pace, and the lack of width on our right hand side. We had the facility to do something about the latter by keeping the same shape but introducing JBG, but for whatever reason we never did, and the way that we instead resorted to long balls (with the honourable exception of Defour) was concerning to see.

Three home games, one goal - that a gift - is a bad return. We need a little bit of a rethink about what we're trying to achieve, or else this could be a long old winter against teams who set up to frustrate us.

Pope 6. A "dodgy" push out into danger, and a couple of shaky moments with his feet
Lowton 5. Poor decision making in the attacking third, stupid attempted challenge on Ince when he should have just tracked his man nearly gifting them a goal
Tarks 6. Occasional poor distribution. Had no option but to take the player out for his yellow
Mee 5. Stupid fool and lucky to get away without a card. Awful distribution all game
Ward 7. The most consistent attacking threat in the team. Again...
Cork 6. Just not quite at it today
Defour 8. The easiest MoM decision for a long, long time. 90 minutes of brilliant defensive work, and starting nearly every move. If only others could keep the ball like him
Brady 7. Hit and miss, but did quite well defensively, and looked like a threat at times
Arfield 4. Tried to be too clever all game. Gave the ball away consistently putting us under pressure. Still hasn't worked out how to defend as a pair
Hendrick 6. Very quiet, but did look threatening when he got the ball in the right areas. You could tell he was a bit behind full fitness
Wood 4. It might seem a little harsh, but missed an easy-ish chance, and never looked like holding the ball up. Their CBs made it look easy against him, won possession back every time

Defour 8 motm excellent performance and looks fully fit
Hendrick 5 not at it
Arfield 7
Wood 6 isolated and a bit of a thankless task

Subs : no impact
Just copied black rods and gave Brady an extra point. Hendricks left him more exposed than he should have and Brady tried to be creative which unfortunately didn't work today. Not convinced about tarks yet.

MOTD would be justified in not showing that, never mind last.

Pope - 7 solid enough, bit of a worry the one he palmed softly in the box

Lowton - 6

Tarkowski - 7 very good

Mee - 5 not very good

Ward - 7 much better first half than second, the cross for wood was a peach

Cork - 7 his early booking was a completed joke and it restricted him

Defour - 9 best player on the pitch by some distance, excellent on the ball but even moreso off it. His reading of the game is superb.

Brady - 6 some good some really bad

Arfield - 6 better infield but like Brady he tried too many deft touches that didn't work

Hendrick - 4 not in it

Wood - 4 a difficult job but the ball just doesn't stick with him and he simply has to bury that free header

Fair play to hudds, they got the point they came for and their fans celebrated accordingly; as though they'd won the cup.

Tedious game and it was again evident that the pace and guile we don't have is going to result in us enduring a few games like this. Not that he gives us either but we should be starting with vokes up top instead of wood, the latter then coming on to change the dynamic a bit.

Hopefully wells will give us some different options when he's fit because we need them.

A completely inept, one dimensional 90 minutes. Only Defour came out with any credit to be honest. Hendrick was pitiful, absolutely pitiful. He shirked tackles, avoided the ball and played so negatively it's embarrassing to think he's meant to be our more advanced midfielder. Brady was equally as pathetic until SD appeared to give him an earful early in the second half. We looked powderpuff all over the pitch. A very poor game. One of the worst of recent years.

Pope 5
Lowton 4
Mee 5
Tarkowski 5
Ward 6
Cork 7
Defour 9
Arfield 6
Hendrick 4
Brady 5
Wood 5

The worrying thing wasn't the cancelling each other out but the apparent willingness of both sides to do so. It was obvious that we needed width or some risky play to get behind or around them, but we seemed more scared of their quick but impotent counter attackers.

Going long second half and not playing Vokes seemed a bit silly, Wood looked a bit stranded in a one and didn’t do much with Barnes either.

All in all though, I suspect a growing problem is that the back five is not now good enough, the players realise that, and all are compensating by offering a bit more protection. Pope in particular is a worry, spilling shots, not coming for crosses and kicking nervy ones out of play. We can’t have Tarks and Pope exposed and expect them to get out of jail like Keane or Heaton.

All sounds a bit negative but if we can take those two or three spells, bottle it, and drink it for the 90 minutes, we would be fine. Incisive, fast passing and movement means sides like Huddersfield (and us) cannot cope.

Pope 6 Poor kicking at times, one good save
Lowton 6 Average. Didn't offer much going forward not helped by the fact there was rarely anyone wide ahead of him
Mee 5 worst game of a while, poor distribution at times. Please at least put free headers in the vicinity of one of our players.
Tarks 6 Average, not his best game in terms of passing.
Ward 7 offered more going forward than Lowton and solid at the back
Cork 6 worked hard but not great with possession today.
Defour 8 Easily our best player in and out of possession.
Brady 5 Poor game. No end product
Arfield 5 Lost count of how many times he lost the ball.
Hendrick 4 Anonymous
Wood 6 Thankless task up there alone today but should have scored the header

Really disappointing performance. No penetration, pace or creativity and very few chances created. Teams have worked out if they let us have the ball and try to catch us on the break we don't know what to do with the ball. Catching us on the break takes out our usually effective framework.

Pope 7 initially slated him for palming out a shot right in the middle, had he not, Kachunga would've had a tap on

Lowton 6 average today, didn't seem to want to get forward as much as he normally does

Tarkowski 7 not much to do but positionally sound. Wish he'd play the easy 10 yard pass though!!

Mee 7 thought he dealt with Depoitre quite well given he was about 6" shorter. Distribution not the best however

Ward 7 offered a good outlet on the left, definitely links better with Brady rather than Arfield

Cork 8 at the centre of everything positive for us

Defour 10 absolutely stunning performance. I think only time he lost the ball was in the last minute when Lowton stitched him up. His tracking back and tacking was superb throughout

Arfield 6 tried too hard at times and gave the ball away numerous time with unnecessary flicks

Hendrick 6 miles off the pace. Looked unsure of his role. Neither supported Wood nor got hold of it in the middle

Brady 7 pace and direct running caused a few problems but set pieces unusually poor

Wood 7 awesome link play in the first half but lacked a teammate to either gamble or support. Quite wasteful in the 2nd half. Should've scored header in front of cricketfield.

Barnes 6 couldn't get into the game
Gudmondsson n/a

Fairly disappointing performance. On the plus side, we didn't lose.

Pope 7 - good save second half, good punch clear, anticipation on edge of area very good
Lowton- 5 poor . Bardsley a possible inclusion?
Tarks-6 did ok
Mee - 6 needs to stop humping it forward when we play 5 in midfield
Ward - 6 did nothing wrong. Great cross in the first half. Bit too negative at times
Arfield - 6 massive mixed bag, was unlucky on a few occasions when trying something different
Brady - 5 was poor today
Defour - 8 was a shame he is so deep, needs to get involved in the final third
Cork - 6 early booking was harsh, thought he was too conservative
Hendrick - 4 really poor. How can he be the creative hub of the midfield when he NEVER turns and takes the initiative. Off day
Wood- 5 tried his best but starved of decent service. Missed a great chance

Subs - meh

It's games like today where our failure to land a creative wide/hole player is massively standing out.

Not too upset though, we are hard to beat and are off to a great start UTC

Difficukt game given Huddersfield had no ambition at all. Howevwr today showed why a bit of pacw or somwthing differwnt would make us a more difficukt side to paek thw bis against.

Pope 7 - rwdundant for most od the game but made a great save
Lowron 5 - oddly off form today - woeful distribition
Tarkowski 6 - not really tested
Mee 6 - ditto
Ward 7 - gŕeat delivery from wide a number of times
Arfield 6 - really goos 2nd half but curates egg in first
Defour 9 - best player pn the pitch by a country mile
Cork 6 - like Lowron a bit iffy in possession today
Hendrick 4 - a complete passenger. Tried ha4d nu5 is still coming back from injury. Not his day
Brasdy 6 - not great firat half but mich better 2nd
Wood 6 - not much to feed off

Barnes 5 - did not do much to stake a claim for a place
Gudmindsson 6 - did alright.
