That's fair enough. We obviously see things differently. A meaningful save for me is one where a keeper demonstrates a degree of ability to stop a goal. Not catching practice.Rileybobs wrote:That is a save - not a difficult one, but a save. I can’t believe I’m even having to argue this.

I never once said their keeper made a meaningful save.taio wrote:That's fair enough. We obviously see things differently. A meaningful save for me is one where a keeper demonstrates a degree of ability to stop a goal. Not catching practice.

I'll re-word it:Rileybobs wrote:I never once said their keeper made a meaningful save.

Your idea of a save is wrong though. A save is where a goalkeeper prevents a goal - which Lossl did from Brady’s tame effort.taio wrote:I'll re-word it:

Anyway, I’ll leave it there because this is like pulling teeth. For what it’s worth I thought Pope’s saves were also as routine as they come.

No Pope didn't have much to do but he had more to do than Lossl. The one late on that took a slight deflection off Lowton and bounced just in front of Pope forced him to drive to he left and parry wide. Not that I wouldn't have expected him to make the save it though. But it was more difficult than anything Lossl had to deal with though.Rileybobs wrote:Your idea of a save is wrong though. Never for one moment thought at the start of the season we would need to rely on Nick
But over two and a half league games and one goal let in will do for me

Pope did very well. The parrys were necessary. Heaton regularly does it and mee clears. See chelsea away. He punches with conviction. So far the only thing we miss from heaton is his presence. Both verbally and also coming off his line quickly.

I mentioned that game as a reference point but someone else claimed yesterdays game was worse..mdd2 wrote:He wasn't at the Burnley City game in 2010 then.Had it not hissed down and flooded the pitch by half time we were looking at a cricket score. Wasn't it 0-5 at half time?
Fortunately the second half was played on a quagmire.

It was worse than the city game from a neutral point of view. Even as a burnley fan as disappinting as that game was yiu couldnt fail to admire city going forward. Adebayor. Tevez. Bellamy and Johnson were brilliant to watch. As were kompamy toure vieira and even barry.

If their keeper wasn’t there we’d have scored three, it’s as simple as that.

Basically what I was saying if Pope hadn't have made those two saves, we would have got beat because we never had one, so if one of those shots had gone in we would have got beat because we never had a shot all afternoon
Re: Pope saved us from
Err, yes we did. Wood had a shot at their keeper towards the end. Fairly well hit but straight at him. Watch the highlights.Steve1956 wrote:Basically what I was saying if Pope hadn't have made those two saves, we would have got beat because we never had one, so if one of those shots had gone in we would have got beat because we never had a shot all afternoon
