Nahki Wells
How much of an impact do you think he will make? Wood looks to me like a very good striker, and one who can play on his own very well. However, Wells has the pace to really impact games, and him stretching the defences could improve Woods return as well. Anyway, do you think he will start and where do you think he will play? I wonder if he could play right in a 4-5-1 but guess he will either play upfront or we could adapt to a 4-3-3.

I think he will bring something that we don't currently have up front.

Proven goal scorer in league 1 yes. The championship he was bang average. This is now the premier league. He has a little bit of pace but nothing special. His scoring record is ok in the championship. He has 27 goals in his last 2 years, with Quite a few of his 80 odd appearances being subs. For a winger/wide forward, his scoring record is not bad. I feel that for 5m he is a good signing and Huddersfield fans also say this.

We need much better and that makes 2 wasted striker signings with Walters. Rather have signed 1proper gray replacement.

You think 27 goals in 87 appearances is good?
Put it this way if Wells was muted as a signing early
In the summer there would have been an uproar on here and rightly so.

Re: Nahki Wells
With him we could also play a 433 which would look something like this - Pope
Lowton mee tarks ward
Defour cork Westwood/Hendrick
Wells Wood Brady
With that formation there is still the defensive stability of 3 midfielders as we wouldn't have the no. 10 which has been Hendrick. Also Hendrick doesn't suite that role as well as a normal central midfield role. This would also mean that Brady could stay forward and focus on attacking play and cutting out his mistakes rather than having the negative backwards/sideways mindset. Wells/ Brady could swap wings and take shots on their stronger feet also.
Wells' signing surely gives us an added bit of flexibility and he did not break the bank.

Read up. He's played as a winger for quite a few games. However imo, his best position is playing off a strong forward.Right_winger wrote:You think 27 goals in 87 appearances is good?

Re: Nahki Wells
But Wood was never a slow player and was always a bit different to Vokes. Yet as soon as we were linked with him, we had the comments of "too slow" and "too much like Vokes". I think fans need to give Wells a chance. Another saying his scoring record isn't great, but he's not always played as a forward. He'll definitely give us another option and think he'll do a good job for us.LoveCurryPies wrote:My faith lies in Dyche & his staff. Re: Nahki Wells
Its not personal and I would be delighted to eat my words. We had many months to plan replacements for Keane, Gray and boyd. We got none, although it's actually tarks we need cover for now.
We are missing Gray' s pace and his ability to take 2 men to mark him massively and that is no surprise. We have signed an injured championship at best replacement and scored 1 home goal in 3 home games and that was given to us. We are not creating much either.

Re: Nahki Wells
It has been suggested that Wood had a bad game yesterday and perhaps he wasn't great, but he was feeding off scraps.
It reminded me of Gray last season, most fans acknowledge the service to him was very poor and it was exactly the same for Wood yesterday.
We need to sort out our approach play in my opinion. Still consists of defence pass to midfield, a couple of sideways passes and then pass back to defender. Defender launches long hopeful ball towards striker and repeat.

Yep bang average when he played as a striker in Hudds 2015-16 season. 17 goals in a team that finished 19th.Right_winger wrote:Proven goal scorer in league 1 yes. A Hudders fan I know think he will get us goals playing off Vokes/ Wood and was sorry to see him go. His style doesn't fit the Hudders present model since Wagner became manager apparently

Re: Nahki Wells
Spoke to Huddersfield supporters yesterday - NEVER played as a winger there, always central striker. Their main gripe was that he was being played as a lone attacker whereas he's always been lots better alongside a big man. If it's any consolation they rated him as a lot less limited than Chris Woods - not slow but not particularly pacey.
Re: Nahki Wells
Why does everyone automatically think Wells will play up top? He could have been brought in to play right wing

Re: Nahki Wells
I suppose the sensible thing to do is to wait to see how he performs with us, rather than slagging him off before he's even kicked a ball.

Re: Nahki Wells
Well we certainly have the big man that he can thrive off. He will add flexibility if this is true because he can allow us to play 442 better because Vokes and wood is not the best partnership unless there are many balls being pumped into the box. He can also allow us to play a 433 formation. I think Wells could well turn out to be a very good signing, especially at the price we got him.kindonyes wrote:Spoke to Huddersfield supporters yesterday - NEVER played as a winger there, always central striker. Just going off his history. I remember seeing him on the wing, but that might have been tactical. But his best position is upfront.ClaretAL wrote:Why does everyone automatically think Wells will play up top? He voikd have been brought in to play right wing

Definitely missing Gray. There is no spark at all at the moment. Our recruiting lately has.been poor. Look at the winger situation. None good enough for this league. Re: Nahki Wells
IMO i think we are not missing Gray or Keane too much. Other than yesterday we have played much nicer football this year than last year with Gray in the team AND got better results (winning/drawing away from home). I think Wood overall is a better striker than Gray. However, I do agree that we miss the pace that Gray provided. Hopefully wells can provide some pace but he doesn't have as much as Gray. The wingers are not equal to most in the league in terms of pace but both Brady and gundmundson create many chances with their good delivery, which is what we need with our big strikers. Neither of these wingers are at their best at the moment because they are being instructed to play far too defensively and not take as many risks which create goals. I think it's unfair to say we are weaker than last year as I think if you put our current team up against the one from last year this years team would win. I just think this because we have a much better central midfield and wood allows us to adapt our way of playing and play more proper football rather than hoofball - hoping Vokes could get a lucky flick on. The evidence is how we are getting results away from homeStayingup wrote:Definitely missing Gray. There is no spark at all at the moment. Our recruiting lately has.been poor. I agree that we have a much better central midfield, but there has been little evidence of us playing "proper football rather than hoofball" in the last couple of home games.

Re: Nahki Wells
Our away performances show how we are playing less hoofball. True that recent home performances are hoofball but even in those we have played a bit more football. The first 30 minutes yesterday we looked alright but then we seemed to get impaciant and go back to hoofball.3putt wrote:"I just think this because we have a much better central midfield and wood allows us to adapt our way of playing and play more proper football rather than hoofball - hoping Vokes could get a lucky flick on. Wells will have a part to play. And I hope there is some serious humble pie getting munched on here when he does.
Hendrick is no No10. It's not even close.
Westwood should be feeling a little put out at not getting on. I think in a five man midfield he definitely has a place. More so than Hendrick, certainly at the moment. That should see us be able to have D4 further forward, despite his excellent defensive work yesterday. He DEFINATELY has the attributes of a number 10.

Wells plays mainly through the middle and has no more pace than Wood or even Barnes
Anyone who went to the Huddersfield away game 2 years ago saw a guy who did nothing against us that day with pace or skill (plus his record above League 1 is average at best)
Hope to be proved wrong, and ideally, this side of Xmas

Shouldve gone for someone else based on that.
Ive always liked the look of him. But the circumstances imo werent right. Especially as we were well stocked there and needed a proper winger and a centre half.

1 or 2 injuries to any of our upfront players and he might become very important. Let's have faith and just see what happens.

Re: Nahki Wells
I don't think he does. The attributes of a number 10 include being able to receive the ball and hold off a defender with your back to goal, and being able to both find space between the lines and make runs away from the ball to go beyond the striker. Thats where Hendrick seems to me to fall down in the role, and I can't see anything in Defour's game to suggest he'd be any better at it.bobinho wrote:Wells will have a part to play.
