'Burnley that was abysmal!'

Post by GrahamBranchsPerm » Sun Sep 24, 2017 5:00 pm

http://sport.bt.com/burnley-that-was-ab ... 4215366625

Might be just me, but I find this fan gets a disproportionate amount of airtime via BT, and I find her less than insightful.

Generally, Burnley fans have been nothing but supportive of the team over the last four years and Sir Sean was agitated yesterday at the odd groan, and I can see why. Let's not get ahead of ourselves or become spoilt like most Prem fans.

Yesterday was not great, but it happens. We weren't abysmal though.

Don't BT have a fan from each team giving their thoughts each week?

Every time I've seen it, it seems to be the same fans each time

He does yes, more or less every game, as our 'video fan'.

Makes us look like scruffy, ungrateful know-nowts.

Suppose it depends on our tolerance levels as fans.

I've seen us humped at home to Shrewsbury / Rochdale with 9 men / Scarborough (Neil Warnock inspired / late winner), so yesterday was below par, but to me, not abysmal. Brought up on a dried dog do da diet of Division 4 whoosh ball, so makes a lettuce butty nil nil at home to Hudd's in the Prem taste tolerable still.

Seems a bit empty to really wade into the team and Mr Dyche, the minute we hit a minor road bump.

8th in the Prem, still pinching myself and humbled and grateful by the work of Sir Sean.

How insightful her analysis was.

Remind me to take with a pinch of salt the views of some clueless fan bemoaning she will never get back that 90 minutes of her life. To be fair I feel the same about the 1 minute I spent watching the video clip and posting this !

This is very true.

Although I don't think many others put a video up on the internet of it.

If you put yourself on the internet like that then you're going to get comments, good and bad.

It's like that lad who does video blogs of Burnley games, he's not always going to get favourable comments about them.

Any road I've only ever listened to one of them No Nay Never podcasts, and although I can't remember the details I do remember thinking that Natalie was only the one who spoke any sense on it.

Internet era hyperbole soundbite clickbait.

Does come across as entitled when a an unexciting but not uncommon 0-0 is labeled as abysmal. Palace are abysmal, our game was just average and/or uneventful. No need for such selfie spewing vitriol.

Was not abysmal...Huddersfield are not a poor side...They were a tough nut to crack...IF Wood had put his chance away we would have been happy that we had managed to grind out three points like we have done so many times before...This is what we do...If these are the pearls of wisdom from No Nay Never I am happy that I have never invested in their rag !

Last week I was laughing at the Mickey Mousers for being in meltdown for dropping a point at home so although I was most dischuffed by this result I thought back to their rantings last week.

She's done herself a disservice with the hyperbole in this blog.
Saturday's match was not abysmal, it was an entertainment-free game of Chess between two teams not wanting to over-commit and lose. Both were acutely aware that the first goal was most likely going to win it, so neither wanted to concede it; sadly at the expense of not trying hard enough to score it either.
As the Home Team in games like that it's often a bit of luck that wins it(a la Palace). West Ham beat Huddersfield two nil after their first goal took a truly wicked deflection and Huddersfield were forced to change their game plan.
Saturday's match is an example of the curse and blessing of two particularly well coached teams meeting one and other.

I thought it was abysmal myself.

However that's one game in a season that so far is going very well.

It was the type of match we should have won and given one of our likely relegation rivals an advantage.

If you call a stale nil apiece against a similar team 'abysmal' then you don't leave yourself too much room to describe a game completely similar but where they rag a winner.

"More abysmal than the Huddersfield game." :)

I'm confident we won't be that abysmal again this season though.

2 top 10 sides in the Premier League cancelled each other out - we were one of those sides.

How brilliant is that - we've had enough boring games in the lower leagues, may as well be bored at the top table.

As for Natalie, she mainly talks sense on the podcast and you can't blame her for trying to broaden her media opportunities.

It wasn't abysmal but it was certainly poor. Neither team really had the guile or quality to win it. It was very boring.

The plan in these types of games is to not lose, that's all.

And it's been happening a lot under Dyche, not just in the PL.

It's a shame because it's costing us points we should be going out and winning.

It's a game plan that's served us extremely well over the years. I don't agree we set up not to lose. We set up to keep it tight no doubt and that's been a strength over a long period of time.

Saturday a lot of players had offdays against a frustrating opponent.

I like Brommers and the NNN guys. They put a lot of time and energy into what they do.

They are passionate supporters of the club and are entitled to their own views. Their podcasts try to represent all views, some of which won't be agreeable as we're all entitled to form our own opinions.

Some of the above is appalling.

I'm just not very happy with this sudden vibe of "we're Burnley, we should be stuffing such upstarts such as little Huddersfield" i'm getting from some sectors of our support.

It was a poor, frustrating game, devoid of goalmouth incidents, BUT we are going to get some games like this along the way.

Things I enjoyed:
Defour's performance
We tried to play football and link play more than usual.
Another clean sheet.

I'm sorry but if you start saying things like "that's 90 mins I'll never get back" then you cease to become a fan, and become more of a customer demanding to be entertained.

Look at Stoke, spent millions trying to evolve into a semi decent football team, and they got humped 4-0 at home by the team we beat in their own back yard.

You win some, you lose some, we'll play well, we'll play crap. But we should all be in it together and get behind the team.

I think the trouble is that if they set themselves up on a regular organised basis they are inviting criticism in a way that spouting off over a pint in the 110 club before and after the match doesn't. Personally I can't stick their podcast - I think they sound self-important and opinionated but I just don't listen to it - maybe I should give it another whirl. I certainly wouldn't condemn their efforts - although I'm not sure what they get from it.

100% agree, along with the fickle messageboard trends of this weeks villian. Players go from 'having a good season' one week to 'just not good enough' the next. This week seems to be Bradys turn.

The vast majority of comments on here and other forums seem well balanced tbf but, it seems, mud sticks when it comes to negativity.
