Huddersfield

Post by Quickenthetempo » Sun Sep 24, 2017 7:34 pm

A lots been said about how bad we were and the expectations of walloping the newcomers to the league were huge.

But give credit to Huddersfield, a very useful team that is tidy on the ball and can get physical when needed. They're certainly further ahead than what we have been when coming up the three times.

They lacked a CF and cutting edge but their main CF is injured, if he bags them goals they should be able to stay up and might do easily.

There shouldn't be the expectations about giving any PL side a good hiding (apart from Sunderland last season who have a good chance of going into League 1). Teams like Huddersfield are as desperate for the points as we are. They deserve credit for, their game plan and organisation, don't think they've played anyone decent yet and their test will continue come when say they get 1 point in 5 and the pressure builds. Like us they will struggle for goals. Brighton will be similar, like today they have uglied a 1-0 win v Newcastle.

Not sure if I get the feeling that some expectations have increased significantly after staying up and beating Chelsea and picking up points at Spurs and Liverpool. This will again be a very tough season and I suspect very ugly at home games.

They have a German manager who has changed them from the side that scraped through the play offs, they now look well organised and unflustered.
Their German centre half played the game like a stereotypical German centre half, minimum fuss, maximum efficiency. He nullified Chris Wood from the outset and the one header Wood missed is the often the difference between winning or not at this level.

That disappointment of 2 points lost may turn into 1 valuable point gained somewhere down the line.

It's a worry if they are relying on their striker to score all the goals. At least we tend to have a number of different players, with the likes of Ward chipping in.

They've now got 2 goals in the last 5 games which is worse than us. Seems like if their main striker gets injured they've had it. At least Vokes and Wood look like they can score a few.

As I have said elsewhere, I don’t think they will get many batterings but will struggle score. They will probably get a good few draws but won’t be able to deliver enough wins to amass the points to keep them up. Their start has been relatively (stress relatively) easy as they have not faced any of the top sides yet, which I think flatters their position a little. By contrast we have played three of the top teams away already, and are on the same points having picked something up in all three of those tougher games. While few and far between on the weekend, I thought we showed moments of quality that they did not.

Who's to say they won't be better against the bigger clubs? Their style was similar to us which means it's hard to break teams down that sit back. The bigger clubs give you more space to play and can be easier to attack if you dare.

We had an off day as well dont forget - only Defour in rhe middle three really played anywhere near the levels so far this season.

They wont stay up if they dont score and bar the gifts from Palace they arent doing that.

Some of our fans' attitude towards Huddersfield is very similar to the one 'big' clubs have towards us that riles us so much.

As well as being very well organised, much like we are, they've also bypassed the going up and down bit and splashed the cash straightway, there's no reason they shouldn't be around our level. Every year an 'established' club gets relegated and an unfashionable one thrives.

No preconceptions about any team from me but we should be looking to beat every team that comes to turf.

Seems Dyche is the one with preconceptions of who he should NOT lose to though.

Over the full season last year we had 14 goals from defence and midfield (15 or so players) across 38 games, we more than relied on our CFs to get us goals. Admittedly we had 2 CFs for most games.

Their hairless no.10 is a class player too. Thought he looked excellent all game.
