A trio with piano, double bass and drums. Wouldn't ordinarily have sought this out but if you like 'musicianship' then they have some awesome skills.

Re: What's your guilty musical pleasure?
One thing I have never understood is music snobbery. It really really annoys me.
If it sounds good to someone, it bloody sounds good. End of. Don't belittle their taste in whoever it is.
I can listen to literally anything, it depends on my mood.
Current favourites are Picture This, a bit of Pink and also U2 and some soft classical music.
No guilt in any of it.

Re: What's your guilty musical pleasure?
Nick the bass player is a good friend from college and uni and we’ve played together in a few bands. He is originally from Keighley but lives in Manchester now. He’s a dirty Leeds fan but has been on the Turf a couple of times with me to watch the Clarets. I like GoGo Penguin’s sound and they are really good straight ahead jazz musicians but I like the dancey slant they have put in their music. The tune “One Percent” has an insane climax that sounds like the CD is skipping.Longsidebovril wrote:I have now!

As for guilty pleasures, I don't have any. I reckon the top artists of the seventies are the "Big Three W's", the Wombles, the Wurzels, and Roger Whittaker. And I don't feel guilty.

Re: What's your guilty musical pleasure?
I think we've had a fair few "Are covers ever better than originals?" threads over the years. I would always cite "I Fought the Law" and "Nothing compares 2 U" as superior covers - but it's all subjective, of course.
And as for (sort of ) guilty pleasures - how about "Barbie Girl" and "Cheeky Song"

The Electric Light Orchestra!
I was 14 in 1977 and got into all the punk and new wave stuff - at the time I kept quiet about liking ELO but the first vinyl album I ever bought was "Face The Music' in 1975 and the first cassette album was 'A New World Record' in 1976.
Still have the vinyl.
