i liked strachen, just didn't seem to have quite enough in that squad. Bit similar to the welsh , close, but not close enough.
Can't see how anyone else would have done better .

But why did he continue to ignore Scott Arfield, a regular PL player, when he had so little talent available to him? Only Strachan can answer that.

George Boyd should have played far more for Scotland than he has done.

David Moyes is in the running and Twitter isn't liking it. But I think he's exactly the kind of manager Scotland need. Someone who can play a similar style to Dyche, as Moyes can.
Moyes might not be able to get world class players playing to their full potential, but he can get mediocre players playing above theirs as a team.

I'd class the Scottish team as poor and Moyes didn't do well with a poor team at Sunderland. At least Strachan could be entertaining in post match interviews but no danger of that with Moyes.

Some obvious, some not so. With Malky already employed within the SFA, he looks likely.

He left good players out of the squad. His tactics were poor.

Seriously coyle should have a shout as essentially qualification is a cup run - and he will have little margin in terms of 'signings' - just take what you've got and get them on a run. Like St Johnstone and then that league cup semis run. Although he's now quite old and fat and with a terrible recent record. Awful idea sorry.

How can a man who's retired be 3rd favourite? Do some people really have that much money to waste?

Get Bertie Vogts back. That should put the Scot amongst the Deep-Fied Mars Bars.

Coyle is a die hard Irishman though, or at least he was when the chance of an International cap came about.

No Dyche? I thought he was always in the running for teams that size.

The problem was the insistence on playing low standard players from a low standard league.Alex Ferguson said a few years ago that the buying of foreign players by Scottish clubs had stopped the development of Scottish players as their path to league teams was blocked. The emergence of Scots playing in England is not what it was but you have to wonder about George Boyd.Ross Wallace.Scott Arfield and Steve Fletcher not getting picked.
Strachan was hampered but his team selection didn't help his cause.

strachan was vastly experienced, great player, managerial experience, comparatively young and well in tune with the modern game.
he knew the limitations of the player pool and got on with it. Not a bad effort really, goal diff only thing wrong with qualifiers.
Tiny country and SPL has foreign players and a poor competitive league structure.
Same problems will be there for the next man and son on ad infinitum. Only chance they and wales stand is if the group they are in is easy like Englands was.
England showed nothing, and we all know they will be horrific when the world cup proper begins next year.
The Durch blew it this time , but what an achievement for them to have produced not only qualifying teams in the past, but great teams that have reached semis and finals, Similar sized pop to scotland too.

The only way Scottish football will improve is if they disband Celtic Football Club. As for Strachan, he is the best manager IMO they have had for a long time. He also scored the best own goal I ever saw - Liverpool's 3rd goal in the Charity Shield in 1992

You do realise the Jocks were in the same group as England, don’t you? If it was supposedly ‘that’ easy and they still couldn’t qualify, or at least get in the play-offs, then they’re royally ******.
