World Cup Playoffs

Post by UpTheBeehole » Tue Oct 17, 2017 1:16 pm

Northern Ireland v Switzerland
Denmark v Republic of Ireland
Sweden v Italy
Croatia v Greece

Decent chance of getting through for both the Irelands.

that's good as it means players don't miss league fixtures....what about Wood with New Zealands play-off?

It's an international break anyway so won't miss any league games. Wood will miss the Southampton game because NZ are invoking a rule that means they can have him for a certain period of time.

Players don't miss league fixtures, that's what the international breaks are for. It had previously been reported that Chris Wood would miss out game at Southampton but that's not the case - New Zealand play 11th & 15th November between our fixtures against Southampton (4th) & Swansea (18th).

Italy have the toughest test. I've always hated Sweden. Brolin scoring the winner against England was almost as bad as Chick Bates scoring the winner against us, down in Shrewsbury.

Denmark v Rep of Ireland. I was afraid of that. I'll have definite divided loyalties for that game.

Wilsden, we have a lot in common. My mother is Danish. Where is your wife from in Denmark? If it's northern Jylland or Vendsyssel, we're practically cousins.

And have a great time, Tribesman. Danes are always friendly drunks, except when it comes to Sweden. Enjoy yourself, and remember; Danmark er den deglig land.

Went to visit little old Odense in the Summer; cute little place with all the Andersen stuff.

Take your wallets guys or buy from the supermarkets DIY style; dear as hell to eat and drink in the capital

Where's the game at?

Derry will be hard to get a ticket i would say , look get on the FAI potal and get your name in . At the moment we are getting 5% 1900 tickets If our CEO gets his way we should get 3800 10% then you have a chance .
Good Luck .

"Little" Odense? It's only the third largest city in Denmark. The Danes make jokes according to where you're from. If you're on Fyn (that's the island on which Odense sits), then you're waiting for your passport to get onto Jylland. The only real Danes live on Jylland, you see. The ones from Sjaelland (that's Copenhagen), aren't real Danes. In the nursing home where my mother is, there are two Danish women other than her. They're both from Copenhagen, and don't speak to anybody, while my mother, from Frederikshavn, is the most sociable person in the place. And bonus points if you know the correct pronunciation of "Odense".

And I screwed up the spelling of a Danish word. It's "dejlig", and is really untranslatable, just like "hyggelig".

Out of interest, what's the second largest, Aalborg?
The city centre wasnt exactly big but small as in it had a quiet and cute feel to it rather than an overpowering city feel; likewise the people seemed polite and cute; the old town was cute where Andersen was supposedly born but the modern part felt like Burnley but a tad bigger with better shops!!
History question Ontario, were the Danes the first to reach New Zealand hence the name? I always thought Brits and Cook were.

pronunciation wise, if i remember well, it's unpronouncable, there's a deep O, some noises in the middle and a final s/z at the end!!!

Aarhus is #2. Aalborg is #4. And Odense is pronounced roughly "Uh-en-sa", with the "D" silent, and 3 definite syllables, but you have to be a native-born Dane to truly pronounce it properly from the middle of your gut and off the side of your tongue, all the while trying to strangle yourself with 3 potatoes in your mouth.

New Zealand was discovered by Abel Tasman, a Dutchman, so it's named after the Zeeland in the Netherlands. It's also where we get Tasmania from, since he that, too. The Bering Sea was named after a Dane sailing for the Russian tsar.

All of the old medieval Danish towns and cities are the same, with a very tight-knitted central core with the houses all built higgledy piggledy, much the same as old British towns. My grandfather was raised in such a house in the old "Fiskerklune" (fishing village) in Frederikshavn. The house had no yard and was built literally at the side of the street, although it was more like an alleyway.
