Thought you'd have Irvine and O'Neil in your team. Looks outstanding I would have liked to have seen that team. Surprised Keane makes the bench though.

Almost impossible to judge, of course, but where do you think they would be leaguewise in 2017/18?

There was never any question really re: Irvine & O'Neil - two huge players for us in the 1960s. Couple of players now making the bench from recent times in Heaton & Keane which shows just how good we are now. Keane, in particular, would push for a place to be honest. When I first went we had Tommy Cummings at centre half but he was way past his best by then. I was always a big Waldron fan (even though Jim Thomson told me last week that he was rubbish) and Dusty Miller would have been a great player alongside him.

As this is not based on ability at all.... highest scorers in the country, just avoiding relegation in the Championship. But a full house every week!

Edit: I'm gutted I can't find a place for Kevin Russell too...

McDonald
Angus, Adamson, Dobson & Newton.
Connelly, McIlroy, Defour & James.
Irvine & Pointer.

If that side failed to finish in the top two of the Premier League I'd be very disappointed.

As a footnote there are certain Burnley players I'd have loved to see play live who I think could have pushed for a place in the starting eleven. They include Jerry Dawson, Tommy Boyle, Bob Kelly, Tommy Lawton, George Beel & Alan Brown.

Heaton
Tripper Miller Waldron Newton
Steven Dobson McIlroy Coates
Irvine Pointer.

If we were playing in the sixties I would switch O'Neil for Steven and Angus for Tripper.

Surprised you went for Newton rather than Elder, certainly the best two left backs I've seen, and I'm astonished you've included Defour to be honest. I thought of Dobbo at the back, didn't see much of Adamson there, usually a right half when I saw him. Big choice between Coates & James for me but Coates won it.

And I didn't see McDonald so it's easier for me.

Oh, and Bob Kelly was better than Jimmy Mac - my granddad told me.

Elder was strong and reliable and would be one of the subs but Newton was the most cultured left back I've seen in a Claret shirt.

Defour was easy, I rate him the best technical player since Jimmy Mac. One day perhaps Sean will play him higher up the pitch and then we'll see him at his very best.

Those two in midfield I think would be your downfall - give me the scrapper O'Neil any day alongside Jimmy Mac. If not O'Neil, I'd probably play Noble there.

All very subjective of course CT but if Haworth or Potts were manager of my team I 'd like to think they'd have them playing in a style akin to Barcelona than a battling team.

Forgotten about Uwe and he would without doubt be on the bench with about 30 others!

How blessed we are to have witnessed such talent in the famous Claret & Blue.

In fairness,Haworth was more an administrator, not a manager as we have them today. Potts would not be able to play the style of football he did with a club like Burnley in today's Premier League. I certainly have Dyche right up there alongside Harry now as the best manager I've seen and probably his achievements, given the way football is today, have been greater.

At least 30 for the bench I'd say. I did debate between Connelly & Morgan on the right, Coates & James on the left. At full back it was between Angus & Newton at right back and between Elder and Newton at left back.

Impossible task to be honest.

Didn't see the 1960s team so can't put them in - though I'm sure plenty would make it.

Heaton
Trippier, Keane, Davis, Ward
Eyres, Steven, Little
Ings, Blake
Payton

Subs : Cork, Defour, Mee, Vokes, Conroy

Think that team would be top of the Championship by 15 points at Christmas then miss out on the play offs as Little, Blake and Payton all get arrested on a massive bender and end up missing the last 3 months doing "bird" !!

In terms of sheer entertainment and feel good factor, mine would be:

Heaton

Trippier Davis Gnohere Ward

Little Marney Ball Defour McMinn

J Rod.

Because of the defence we would be fighting relegation but what a ride!

I have a chequered past which comes about from living all over the place.............

McKenna (Boston United)
Barton (Maidstone/Newcastle) Stevens (Brighton) Ratcliffe (Wales) Ball (Hastings GS/Burnley)
Arfield Colin Loss (Merthyr) Ramsey (Wales) McArthur (Rye United)
Casper Vokes

Bench: Heaton, Nattrass, Paul Shirtliff (Boston United), Eyres, Andy Gray (not Andre the cement)
Slight problem in having 3 right backs (or more), but I note I've also picked 3 borderline alcoholics.

Playing 2/3/5 Dobson and O'Neil can argue about which side they play at half back .....proper football....Nulty and Kindon on the bench.....you'd beat Brazil with that lot.

had to get Dobo in but ONeil was THE ball winner and Jimmy Mac and Steven would have used it better.
Willie Irvine was probably our best finisher ever but I loved Ray Pointer.

Harris? Is that the centre half or the 16 year old kid who played just four games? I'd certainly agree with you on Heggarty, Heesom, Chippendale, Malley, Rhodes & Jones. I wouldn't include Caughey because he had a stormer when we beat Northampton, I'd book that place up front for Rob Regis.

I'd possibly go with

Neenan
Leebrook Buckley Heggarty Heesom
Chippendale Malley Rhodes Atkinson
Regis Jones

Glad I'm not the only one to pick Les Thompson on a " Gut feeling " basis ....

If you watch the Wembley play-off video v Stockport, as the teams walk out, he looks around, taking in every part of the ground , drinking it in, knowing that this is as good as it's ever going to get... and he was right..
Wholehearted and gave 100% every game....
