Armanath, India, his 2 sons also played for India.
Sir Learie Constantine, W Indies, one of the greatest, opened up the Lancs League to overseas pros.
Don't know
Jack Ikin who played for Lancashire.

Constantine played for Nelson from 1929 to 1937 and was then replaced as professional by Amarnath in 1938.
Jack Ikin was professional for Accrington during the 1939 season.
Also, Birtwell played for three clubs in the league between 1927 and 1956.

Re: OT Cricket buffs
Amar Nath or Amarnath was Nelson pro for 1938 and 1939. The other autograph on that page is Alex Birtwell, Nelson amateur (wicket-keeper?) who later moved to Colne.
Second picture is Learie Constantine plus autograph, Nelson pro 1929-37 and occasional amateur player during the war.
Third one is Amar Singh, occasionally known as Amarsinh, Colne pro 1935-38. He died in 1940, aged 29.
Fourth one is Jack Ikin, Accrington pro 1939, with some Accrington amateurs.

Alec Birtwell was a bowler who took over 500 wickets in his Lancashire League career playing mainly for Nelson but also at Colne and Burnley

re OP...
I love stuff like this. Passed down, offering an insight into someone else's "time".
Half the enjoyment is finding out more.
It's local history.
Far too often items like this get binned or burned - house cleared by relatives who can't see wood from trees.

Re: OT Cricket buffs
I couldn't have said when Lol Amarnath was pro at Nelson but in 1977 his two sons were professionals at Burnley and Lowerhouse. Surinder was at Burnley for one year but Mohinder did about 4 years at Lowerhouse. In the end, dad and two sons all finished with life bans from the Lancashire League.

Why ? Mohinder (Jimmy as he is affectionately known) was at LHCC visiting a few years back (2013) and I have been involved with LHCC for absolutely years and didn't know this.ClaretTony wrote:I couldn't have said when Lol Amarnath was pro at Nelson but in 1977 his two sons were professionals at Burnley and Lowerhouse. Re: OT Cricket buffs
I might be wrong but I'm sure I was told it was the case. Surinder was no surprise. He once failed to turn up for a Burnley game at Church. He'd gone to watch his brother at Lowerhouse and claimed he didn't know Burnley had a game. Burnley played with ten men and lost. The LL over the years had some very strict rules on pros and their availability with quite a few receiving bans.RocketLawnChair wrote:Why ? The Lowerhouse Amarnath was very successful in the league, apart from one stunning innings the Burnley Amarnath wasn't.

Always interest me these things CT so I've asked Sir Stan !! To our knowledge the only professional we have had banned by the league was the Pakistani Manzoor Elahi who effectively did a moonlight flit in August 1989...ClaretTony wrote:I might be wrong but I'm sure I was told it was the case. If Stan says that's the case then it certainly will be. Not sure where I got the Amarnath one from but dad and Surinder definitely got bans.RocketLawnChair wrote:Always interest me these things CT so I've asked Sir Stan !! Yes I'm sure the Lancashire League Heritage project would be interested in something as special as that. I would imagine they'd be interested in all the autographs tbh.

Re: OT Cricket buffs
Thanks again all. The book has a number of authographs inc teams from Colne CC and Rawtenstall cc and all seem to date between 1939 and 1941.
I have the sad task of sorting one or two bits that have interesting history and glad some have taken the time to reply and proved of interest.
