Remembering CumbrianClaret
It's a year today since CumbrianClaret (previously lotty1) suffered a heart attack and passed away.
I'm sure he'll have spent the last year up there arguing with people over the obscene amount of money in football and how we desperately need the return of a reserve league.
Thinking of his wife Margaret and son Jason today - will be a difficult one for them.

Re: Remembering CumbrianClaret
Fortunately Sidney has taken over the role of the Clarets Gatekeeper.
If Lotty had had his way we'd still have the same manager ever, a true stick of Claret Rock.

A sometimes cantankerous and curmudgeonly sort, but also a good contributor to this message board and it's previous incarnation. Also a friend of Pa Beamish from days of yore in Padiham. His son Jason was friend of my older brother.
I'm sure Ray would be made up with his beloved Club's current status.

Although he constantly told us he'd fallen out with and lost interest in football, there is nothing more certain than he'd be made up with how we are doing now.Lord Beamish wrote:I'm sure Ray would be made up with his beloved Club's current status.

I think the Honesty, Integrity, and Thrift of how we were doing it would really please him.ClaretTony wrote:Although he constantly told us he'd fallen out with and lost interest in football, there is nothing more certain than he'd be made up with how we are doing now.

Re: Remembering CumbrianClaret
For some reason or other I thought of him yesterday.
I only knew him by username.
We're all staunch Clarets supporters whatever our particular feelings of any given player, manager, board etc.
Keeping flying the flag Lotty wherever you are.

Re: Remembering CumbrianClaret
Lotty was always game for an argument, and about the Reserves and modern football he was dead right, but then we'd both seen football at its best at least from a Burnley perspective.

Always got on well with Ray and exchanged many a comment on message board.
Wherever he is right now I bet he is looking down at what his beloved Burnley are doing and with a big smile on his face.
And listening to Carpenters songs no doubt

Re: Remembering CumbrianClaret
I once felt the wrath of his tongue from France when we differed as to an interpretation of a Burnley piece on the radio. A good man though, a true supporter who is missed on this board and, no doubt, further afield.

It's been a year already?!

Hi ClaretEngineer. I was just going to type that. Seriously. That's weird.
Lotty got huge stick on here for never criticising the club. His love for Burnley FC was such that he couldn't admit to any shortcomings at Turf Moor. Blind faith.
My Dad was the same.

Re: Remembering CumbrianClaret
He popped into my head this weekend when we played City for some reason....I was hoping he would work his magic on the pitch.
But I think he might have saved it to sit on Sean's shoulder and whisper into his ear that a move to Everton might not be a good idea at the moment.
The malt will once again be opened tonight.
Keep the Clarets safe Lotty

Re: Remembering CumbrianClaret
I shall play a couple of songs on You Tube tonight. Heartbreaker by Dionne Warwick and Zoom by Fat Larry's Band. 2 songs that seemed to be played every half time back in the early 80s, when Lotty was spinning the discs and I was stood on the Bee Hole End.

Re: Remembering CumbrianClaret
One of the few people on here one would genuinely have liked to meet. I liked Lotty and his passion, though I fancy I didn't do a great deal for his blood pressure.

Re: Remembering CumbrianClaret
I first met Ray through Claretsmad and arranged to go and watch our local French team play (Guingamp) in the second tier of French football.
We arranged to meet at a bar called Lapin Rouge. Both of us coming from Padiham we managed to cock it up with me waiting in the bar and
Ray waiting outside. Things went much better as next game we both were inside the bar.
RIP RAY . UTC

I think i I’d be sceptical if I was asked to meet someone inside a bar called Red Rabbit.winsomeyen wrote:I first met Ray through Claretsmad and arranged to go and watch our local French team play (Guingamp) in the second tier of French football.

Re: Remembering CumbrianClaret
Strange that. I was talking about Lotty today, just chatting about football to someone who loves the game as much as me.
I shared one of my greatest football memorys with Lotty, winsomeyen Wrighty and my son.
Taking the 24hr return ferry from Caen to Portsmouth.
Few beers, winsomeyen dropping his passport at my father in laws house, talking about how Sky had ruined football. A win at Wembley, fish and chips a few more beers and home.
RIP buddy.

Nice touch to post this CT
Re: Remembering CumbrianClaret
Knew Ray for more years than I care to remember. Through Redrose, Burnley FC and CC and up to his passing we used to fight on CM. Sometimes we actually agreed. He was brilliant when reading the half time scores ont Turf especially when the Barstewards were losing. His tone was brilliant. He often used to come to evening games at Bradford City when I worked there.Wow we had some great times. Top bloke was our Raymondo. Thanks CT for the date chech.

Just spoken to Margaret and she said would I thank you and everyone for their kind words and thinking of Ray today. She is at her daughters today and she is fine.ClaretTony wrote:It's a year today since CumbrianClaret (previously lotty1) suffered a heart attack and passed away.

I spent many a day discussing BFC and the way money has ruined the game(Rays views as we all know) but I can assure you he was absolutely delighted we are playing in the big league in spite of the money.I am sure he will be up there watching the Clarets and playing his music which he loved.
