Joey Barton about to be under fire again
Just said that Usworth doesn't look like a manager and that you don't see many fat managers. Can see this one blowing up quicker than Unsworth has...

To be fair Unsworth has put on a hell of a lot of ballast, Steve Bruce - style. I hope he can shift as well he did.

Steve Evans has made a decent career for himself in the lower leagues despite being a fatty.
And a prick.

Whether it's a politically correct statement or not, his statement isn't wrong is it? I am struggling to think of anymore than the ones listed already.
I am fat myself so I am not being harsh about it with any malice, just saying his statement is sound.

Not like they can ban him anymore than he already is.
Yes Unworth has put on some timber, some people do when they aren't training everyday.
He's right about the lack of chubby managers though, is this a discrimination thing?

I wonder if there's a bit of history between the two of them. It seems an egregiously unnecessary barb, otherwise.

Haha heard that when out in car made me laugh when he said about his defending and he just used to kick ball up the wing from leftback when he watched him as a season ticket holder, seemed to me he doesn't like him personally for what ever reason

I don't think it's about whether he's correct statistically, or not. It's the context he's used it in that I find it a bit bizarre.jedi_master wrote:Whether it's a politically correct statement or not, his statement isn't wrong is it?

I loved how much Barton helped us when he was here, but he'll always be a bit of a twonk.

Chipper Unsworth he called him - because all he did was chip it down the line. He gave him a fair lot of grief.
He also said “ I don’t want to upset the Burnley fans but they’d do far lot worse than get Sean Dyche. He is infinitely better than most of the managers I have heard linked with the job. He cut through all the stuff off the pitch”

He was questioning how a manager can lecture players about fitness, eating plans etc when they are ‘slightly out of shape themselves’. Also said he had never managed men - only boys.FactualFrank wrote:I don't think it's about whether he's correct statistically, or not. It's the context he's used it in that I find it a bit bizarre.

Re: Joey Barton about to be under fire again
The guy from Rotherham who went onto manage Leeds was the fattest one I have ever seen. I genuinely expected him to collapse with a heart attack every time he was on the touchline.

Joey is bang on. A fat c!nt should never have the right to manage or play for any sporting team.

Re: Joey Barton about to be under fire again
There may well be some history there, because that was OTT and personal really.
Really don't like that side of Barton. It's not analytical or incisive commentary, its just name calling.
Barton is also a massive fan of Dyche. As an Everton fan he would probably love to see him there. Probably another reason to 'go in' on Unsworth.

Re: Joey Barton about to be under fire again
That still doesn't make much sense, as Unsworth was once a pro footballer. He no doubt has knowledge and experience of how to teach fitness and eating plans. You can still know how to train and eat properly, even if you no longer do it to pro athlete standard yourself.Loyalclaret wrote:He was questioning how a manager can lecture players about fitness, eating plans etc when they are ‘slightly out of shape themselves’. Re: Joey Barton about to be under fire again
He isn't a manager and for anyone to think they were able to take over a club like Everton it would have taken him at least a complete turnaround in form, not a continuance of what got the last manager sacked.
Remember him having to be dragged back from Eagles when we played at Preston.
I think the major shareholder will get his way with a foreign manager hopefully.

Re: Joey Barton about to be under fire again
It's hardly setting a good example to highly tuned atheletes and the general public when their leader is grossly overweight. When Coyle was in Management in England was it his brother in law that was one of his assistants that carried similar weight to Unsworth. Oh and Bruce has put weight back on by the look of things.

Re: Joey Barton about to be under fire again
But the manager often doesn't take training. Nor does he become a dietician to make sure the players eat right.
Sure, the manager might be at the training ground, but not actually taking the players through their paces.

Re: Joey Barton about to be under fire again
It's hardly " lead by example" though is it. Barton does have a point in my view.
Re: Joey Barton about to be under fire again
Not convinced he has a point and if he did there's no need for publically making such personal remarks.

I thought he had a point then started suggesting 'big Sam' to come in to get them out of trouble. Which made me think it was either personal or deliberately controversial.

Re: Joey Barton about to be under fire again
I don't know whether Unsworth is a good manager or not although he does have a good reputation from coaching at under 23 level, fat or not. It amazes me how he is being judged after 2 games away to the last 2 clubs to be Premier league champions. If he had won these games would he then have been a good manager? If Dyche was offered the job and didn't win the first 2 games would he then become a bad manager?
I am sure that this madness from supporters, pundits and club owners is one reason why we are likely to keep Sean at Burnley (for the moment at least).

Re: Joey Barton about to be under fire again
I'm not convinced he had any agenda - just said 'he doesn't look like a manager' without much thought then when pressed to clarify what he meant he bluntly called him fat. Didn't seem to engage his brain or any sort of filter. Nor did he particularly seem to care after his comment whilst his co-commentator seemed a bit awkward.
Re: Joey Barton about to be under fire again
Big Sam to save them from relegation. 1 season, probably after the international break, when Unsworth will put his hands up in acceptance.... we hope.
Re: Joey Barton about to be under fire again
Barton perfect for talksh-ite
He's taking tips from the likes of Adrian Durham - say something controversial and it will get in the news and social media - all of a sudden lots more people know he's on the radio.
Of course for someone like Barton he does not have a steep learning curve in the art of being controversial.
Personally I think it's completely irrelevant to whether he can do the job or not. It is also quite personal and unnecessary.
More relevant than someone's weight would be for example how someone who has been criminally prosecuted a couple of times gets a chance to become a pundit ahead of say another ex footballer / wannabe pundit who does not have a criminal record......hypothetically of course.

From Grimsby's fanzine 'Cod Almighty' after the 1-1 League Cup draw in 2007: 'Did anyone notice Unsworth being replaced by Harley? How did we miss that? The crab nebula was now visible, as was half the Main Stand; although there was nobody in that half.

Steve Evans got himself fit at Leeds and had shed several stones by the time he left.
I had heard he trained relentlessly with Charlie Taylor on his comeback from injury.
Up until then he was certainly a big lad.

I think many of us, including you, knew this when he joined. It was just a case of while he was a Burnley player, nothing bad could be said of him. But we know what he's like.Wile E Coyote wrote:only interested in his own self promotion, cares nothing for burnley fans.

I think it says a lot about Dyche. Dyche was someone he respected and that's why he behaved himself, most of the time.
Re: Joey Barton about to be under fire again
Unsworth is doing his best to look the part. I noticed yesterday he has managed to find a XXXXL manager's jumper. Just needs the notebook now, and someone to let him know when the camera is on him.
