A game where we had total control but no real end product, at times we were flying crosses in forgetting wood was not there.

Pope 8 - very good. Defence look more comfortable with him now
Lowton 8 - normal service resumed. Worked well with JBG and pushed on more than he has been of late
Tarkowski 8 -positional play was excellent and any time he was troubled, Mee came to his aid
Mee 8 -as per Tarkowski. Look a very decent pairing.
Ward 7 - pushed on well in support but final ball not as effective as normal.
JBG 8 -excellent understanding with Lowton and his work off the ball superb, often going unnoticed
Cork 9 -MOM ran the show
Defour 9 - assisted Cork with intelligent play with and without possession. Make it look so simple
Hendrick 5 - (inc 1 for goal) woeful throughout. looks lost in this position off the striker
Brady 6 - did enough and no more. Poor set pieces
Barnes 8- thought he did well on his own and was not helped by Mike Dean. However we've said before that his cards are now marked

Westwood 7 - snapped into tackles and used them ball wisely

Pope - 8 not really tested but what he had to do, he did with great assurance

Lowton - 7 needed a striker to aim at with his crosses

Tarkowski - 8 class

Mee - 8 also class

Ward - 7 similar to Lowton

Cork - 9 everywhere, kept the ball moving and got forward well for the goal. Some lovely slick passing from him and

Defour - 8 always available and started most of our best moves bit his off the ball work and interceptions were key tonight

Brady - 5 in and out

JBG - 6 same as Brady but we look a bit quicker and threatening going forward with him in the side

Hendrick - 5 good finish, little else to shout about

Barnes - 5 not his night but he offers so little threat, it won't be too often

This wasn't that bad a game, except for the neutral and in the end we were pretty comfortable once the goal went in. Neither keeper was really seriously tested over the 90 mins so one goal was always likely to win it. Fortunately we got it but on the balance of play, i'd say we deserved it.

Pope 7
Lowton 8 mom
Ward 8 (nullified the lively Ritchie very well)
Mee 8
Tarkowski 8
Defour 8
Cork 8
Jbg 6 (thought he played his part in working hard and set the goal up with a good cross)
Brady 6 (one of his better home displays for me)
Hendrick 6 (thought he played his part in working hard and took his goal well)
Barnes 6 (Typical Barnes some good some not so good, but overall no complaints)

Solid uncompromising honest hardworking team display. Not an awful lot attacking wise but equally not awful lot conceded.

Pope 8 - he might have Tom worried on this form!
Lowton 9 - best I've seen him play
Tarkowski 9 - outstanding
Mee 9 - outstanding
Ward 7 - steady eddie
JBG 8 - put a shift in and worked well with Lowton
Cork 10 - Swansea must have a bloody good midfield to allow him to leave!
Defour 8 - cool stevie as ever
Brady 5 - never takes a man on. Always plays the easy ball.
Hendrick 5 - never takes a man on. Always plays the easy ball.
Barnes 7 - put in a real shift.

Classic Dyche. Happy 5th anniversary!!

Pope 7 - Did well what we now know he is capable of.
Lowton 8 - solid
Tarkowski 8 - as above
Mee 8 - as above
Ward 6 - some good positions but delivery not quite there today.
Defour 8 - always available and moved the ball quickly generally.
Cork 9* - involved in anything of any substance.
Brady 6 - couple of poor balls in and touches.
Hendrick 6 - not at his best but there when needed again, sublime composure and control for the goal, seeing it again later.
Gudmundsson 6 - good effort, didn't shine but didn't disappoint.
Barnes 7 - massive effort up front on his own, terrific effort.

Pope 8 - some dodgy kicking at times but decent saves when called upon
Lowton 8 - got up and down and gave us an attacking presence
Tark 9 - solid
Mee 9 - solid
Ward 7 - some decent crosses but not his usual success rate. Got a good tackle in during the first half which led to Shelvey's shot.
JBG 7 - top cross for the goal. Needs to get in the game a bit more.
Cork 9 MOM - superb. Everywhere.
Defour 9 - fitness is there now. Got involved throughout.
Brady 5 - corners remain poor but impressed with his resilience. Graduated from the Paul Scholes tackling school.
Hendrick 5 - how many times offside. Shows his difficulties in that position.
Barnes 6 - great work rate. Felt that Mike Dean has him sussed though.

Just about worth the win.

Pope - 8 - several outstanding contributions tonight
Lowton - 8 - a really strong game defending and going forward
Mee - 8 - a real pillar
Tarks - 8 - some real moments of class coupled with a few clumsy moments
Ward -7 - strong at the back but not as strong going forward as he has been in other games
JBG - 6 - in and out of the game, but one decisive moment
Cork - 9 - the decisive player on the pitch for me
Defour - 6 - good, but thought he was too deep tonight
Brady - 6 - still not seeing what I really expect
Hendrick - 6 - took the goal well but so many other things were not so good
Barnes - 8 - thought he did an outstanding job of holding the ball

We have one of the best defensive records in the PL!

Not rating cos I’m off to bed and the above seems to tally with my views. However a brief word on Cork and Tarkowski - exceptional. Jack has come back twice as good as when he left us. What a guy he is.

Pope 8-The lads growing in confidence with each passing game.
Lowton 8-Always available and linked up well with JBG.
Tarkowski 8-Close to MOM.
Mee 8-Sound
Ward 7-Dependable as ever.
JBG 7-This lad needs a good run and he will be one of our key players.
Defour 8-Class
Cork 9*-I'll hold my hands up on this one. Thought he was overpriced when we brought him back but what a bargain he's turning out to be. Why's he not in the England squad?
Brady 4-Sorry don't like giving such low scores, especially when we win, but more out than in.
Hendrick 5-Poor generally but took his goal well.
Barnes 7-Thought he did well and kept there adequate defenders occupied.

Westwood 7-For time on pitch, he slotted in well. It cant be easy replacing someone of Defour's ilk so late on.

Don't get the "boring game" bit, its just the like the majority of premier league games these days. Both keepers not really tested (though Newcastle save from Barnes was the best one). Thought Newcastle shaded it first half, but we were comfortably better than them second and probably deserved to win it. Lots to be happy about as well, as a very good premier league team couldn't do anything about it after we had scored.

Like everyone else, chanted till the manager walked off the pitch, and like everyone else, knows it will make no difference at all if he thinks he's achieved all he can do here. I hope he thinks that he'd be better off waiting till the end of the season but who knows?

Pope 8 - untroubled, handled it well
Lowton 8 - worked hard on the right
Tarks 8 - wall
Mee 8 - wall Mk 2
Ward 7 - did ok, but a couple of crosses from him not great
Brady 6 - in and out
Defour 8 - ridiculously good at the simple stuff that we need
Cork 9* - Swansea, what the hell are you playing at? £10m? Absolute steel and best player on the pitch by a mile
Hendrick 6 - inc one for the goal. Not great at all, but in the right place at the right time
Gudmundsson 7 - great spot and cross for the goal, worked hard but like Brady, in and out
Barnes 6 - better second half, but his hold up play isn't good enough really as the point of attack

7th! How ace does that sound?

Hendrick 6 - I thought he was decent and had a really good spell late in the game.
Cork 8
Brady 6 - needs to receive the ball when he's running at pace and take a man on. It all seems a bit stop start when he receives the balll to feet. Same with JBG
Barnes 6 - we missed Wood though

I thought this was a better game than some are giving credit for but I guess it was verging on the dull for the neutral. We really look like we KNOW we belong in this division now and that is a massive sea change. Going 7th has though in my view pushed SD in to the arms of Everton as they will be looking at the league table and concluding that is where we should be and that SD is their man. Will be Toffees Manager by this time next week

Pope 8 – Sorry but I have been a bit nervous about this lad but I was wrong and last night was a very competent perfromance
Lowton 8 – Back to his best for me
Mee 8 – Solid as per
Tarks 9 – Solid + as per
Ward 7 – Solid but crossing below par
Cork 9* Tried to keep us on the front foot and was excellent throughout. WHAT a signing
Defour 7 Solid and workmanlike for me which we needed but missed his creativity further up the park
Hendrick – 6 Got to be at least 6 for winning us 3 points with an accomplished finish but it’s not happening for him or the side in this position
Brady 5 – Slightly better than recent performances but corners were poor
JGB 6 – Battelled manfully but feels like a better sub at the moment
Barnes 7 Worked so so hard and did not get support from Ref but to be honest I’d ignore him like MD did if I was reffing. He is too obvious.

Westwood - 6 Did his job

Massive 3 points in the bank that will be much needed should SD go. He would depart with my blessing but with my tears as would be devastated. Massive decision for the board. Don’t do a Laws!

A clean sheet and to me a fantastic defensive performance hence the high marks for the back four. I wasn't worried once.
