Jack Cork - Overpriced

Post by CleggHall » Tue Oct 31, 2017 7:04 am

When we signed Jack Cork, I posted that I thought we had paid over the odds for him and he was expensive.
I now apologise, Cork is a star, key signing, likes playing for Dyche and was magnificent again last night. Real value for money, Swansea were mad letting him go. We now have a PL midfield, Cork and Defour are true class.

Virtuoso performance last night since he had a real hand in the winner. Performances all season have been just as classy. If England continue to ignore it then it's their loss.

After his signing, I first saw Cork at Alfreton where Dychio played Cork and D4 together. OK, the opposition was lowly but you could see even then the possibilities of a class act.

Perfect replacement for Marney, because his engine is very similar and he's a better player.

i really liked him when he came in on loan, met him once at an away game vs Swansea under Brian Laws. He seems a really nice guy and level headed and hard working and its GREAT that he has come back, not a northerner so something about Burnley that he likes and he has seen the transformation at the club under SD and the amazing changes at Gawthorpe. I didn't know that Corky knew SD from Watford

Great time to be a Claret, MOTM last night although Matt Lowton also had a great game

I like Jack, but NOBODY is better than Dean Marney.

I wasn't too excited when I knew we were signing him. I thought he was OK when on loan but no more and most of that was in the Championship. He's matured into an excellent Premier League midfielder though at Southampton and Swansea and is proving to be a superb signing for us.

I genuinely think he is one of the best English midfielders in the country. Keep this form and I think he will be going to Russia.

Agree with everything said about Jack Cork and a very likeable, down to earth fellow as I discovered when he lived close to us the last time he was here. Another shout also for Matt Lowton who kept a potential danger for them,Atsu, in his 'pocket' all night and then put in a sterling effort in the second half with some very crisp and incisive passing.

He is also our 3rd Centre back at set pieces.

How Gareth Southgate overlooks him, and calls up Jake Livermore (  ) is beyond comprehension.

He's a very very good midfielder, probably playing the best football of his career at the moment. Cork and Defour must be one of our greatest Central Midfield pairings for generations.

And just £8m, in this day, is a fantastic piece of business.

He was a class act back in the day when we had him on loan and he's even better now.

I've said a few times this season that Swansea must be very good to let him leave. He's an absolute snip. I thought he was at the time and I'm even more convinced today. He is a major factor behind our success this season. To think we've gone from Marney and Jones to Cork and Defour in just over 12 months is mind-boggling... and I mean no disrespect to Marney or Jones by the way, but the current two are a different level to anything I've seen in my 30 years as a fan!

Yes good spot Ian, I’d noticed he was winning a fair few defensive headers from set prices, I hadn’t thought that it was planned positionally but I reckon your correct.

The words I used as I walked from The Turf last night were "absolute class". He really is such a good footballer. Comfortable on the ball, works unbelievably hard (ran over 12k last night) but he actually affects games so positively. Him and Defour make themselves available all the time and keep the side ticking over so well. What a midfield!!

I felt in the summer he would help us in terms of filling the void left by Keane with his ability to drop back as an auxiliary central defender when necessary. Coupled with his blossoming partnership with Defour - and the qualities of the centre halves behind him - we really have become a tough nut to crack. Better ball retention in that area of the pitch is also a massive help to our gameplan.

If Cork played for Spurs he would be in the England squad based on his performances this season.

I remember Swansea fans saying he was a one trick pony and they would pay for the taxi to Burnley. It proves they know f*ck all about football, but supporting Swansea proves that! :D

Always loved Cork when he was on loan here the first time and was gutted when he didn't sign permanently. However even I thought we'd got our pants pulled down over the fee to bring him back, but with every game it's looking like one of the best value signings in the league this summer.

Chuffed to bits we've got him on a 4 year deal too!

Marney will be hard pushed to get in to this side bar any injury's but looking forward to his full return and also to seeing what Wells can do as have seen very little of him but I hear he could bring a different dimension to our attack which has to be a positive :)

Life is good smiles :)

After last nights performance by cork, 10 mill looks a snip, dominated the midfield and bossed and bullied toons more physical players, his passing was accurate and he worked his socks off, dyche wouldnt get that from the bunch of so called prima donnas at everton, well done the lads

Jack Frank Porteous Cork (yes that's his full name) was absolutely immense last night and I don't think an international game would faze him.
