Comebacks
After the padiham comeback the other day it got me thinking of us and our comebacks. My fave being at Oxford with Davis and Weller scoring late on.
But my question is have we scored two last minute/ injury time goals to draw or win a match. I vaguely recall or I dreamt it listening to radio lancs many years ago and winning at somewhere like Leyton Orient in a cup match mid week with John Pender scoring two headed goals in injury time. Can anyone recall this? As i say opposition may be different and it may have been a league match

Re: Comebacks
Cardiff t'other year was 2 late goals. We were 2 nil down going into the last 10 minutes, I Can't remember exactly how late, but it was absolute pandemonium at snatching a point from nowhere in torenchel conditions.

It'll always be the Spurs LC semi-final for me. That was brilliant and heartbreaking.

Re: Comebacks
It's good when the OP states 2 late goals/injury time goals, then appears list of games where we have come behind to win no matter when the goals were scored.
EDIT - the Cardiff goals came on 85 and 90+3 to earn a point from 2 nil down. Was horrid weather. Seemed much closer, but the game time always seems to fly by when you're behind.

Re: Comebacks
A game I've often referred to on here was a 3-3 draw at Ayresome Park in 1972-73 season. I was a student in London at the time and couldn't make it but a friend of mine went and arrived a few minutes late to find us 1-0 up. Boro then scored 3 goals and with very little time left in the game he went for a quick getaway. Turning his radio in in the car on the way back home he heard the score of 3-3. Delighted but somewhat frustrated at not having seen any of our 3 goals how was he going to explain that when he got home!

In my short time 10 year period of watching Burnley, the 4-3 Preston win tops it. Even though I was still quite young I knew I would look back on that game for a long time.

Dobo got 2 late goals to equalise in the FA Cup at Chelski in 1970. Sadly they won the replay and went on to win the cup.

As a young'n I can only look back to relatively recent times. The Spurs home leg of the Carling cup was pretty epic when J-Rod scored the goal.

Was there not a game in the 80's when we were down 1-0 to Carlisle with 10 minutes to go when we scored 3 and saved a penalty ?
I was there for that Preston game though, the .gif with the lass in tears tearing up her programme.

There was a 3-2 win against Preston on a Friday night with two late goals from Andy Gray I think and St Ledger doing what he did best.

Slightly off topic but I remember playing Brighton at the running track and we were two up and conceded two in the last minute to draw. Just felt empty at full time. Think it was under ternant and I'm sure super glen scored.

During our last promotion season when Michael Keane scored that equalizer against Brighton away shortly after having had a perfectly good goal ruled out.
Not sure what minute it was but seem to remember it was quite late on and what a crucial goal it was too!

Re: Comebacks
We were 2-0 up, game in the bag and then threw it away with two Steve Sidwell goals courtesy of some poor defending particularly by Dean West. Burnley fans not happy, Stan wouldn't give us eye contact but Glen Little was seriously turned on by fans after laughing at them as he walked off.Boll ewood wrote:Slightly off topic but I remember playing Brighton at the running track and we were two up and conceded two in the last minute to draw. Remember this one. The Burnley goals must have been really spaced out or very close together as the bloke next to me missed three of the goals as he went to the bogs at the back of the Longside and Burnley scored every time he went.Hroogar wrote: 1969/70 home to C.Palace, losing 2-0 after 34mins, won 4-2

Also Wilf Wrigley scored a penalty, his only league goal. He was in sixth form at SMC at the time or had just left whilst I was lower down the school. I wonder where he is now?

Re: Comebacks
The most memorable non-Burnley comeback for me was one that pulled my 5 team accumulator in after I had all but given up hope.
I threw Port Vale in completely at random for an FA Cup tie at Huddersfield a few years ago. Approaching 90 minutes they pulled a goal back to be just 3-2 down, and at around 4:50 they equalised. Jeff Stelling gave it no concern, but according to my phone there was 9 minutes of stoppage time.
I bounced around the room like a demented balloon when Vale notched a 4th just before 5pm.
Over £550.
Banging.

I recall QPR away think we were 2 down at half-time won 4-2 Andy Cole was immense that night.
Re: Comebacks
Love a comeback. 2-0 down at home to Macclesfield to win 4-3 including a Tom Cowan overhead wonder strike. I'd say that game was the beginning of the road to where we are now.
There were a couple of good ones in Stan's promotion season. 2-0 down at Stoke with around 10 minutes to go to draw 2-2 and the late, late 2-1 win at Oxford when Ian Wright came on and changed the game.
The Preston one will always be my favourite though. Especially as a Preston fan texted me at 1-3. Silly boy!
