Burnley FC A-Z. Day 1 - A is for...

Post by BFCmaj » Wed Nov 01, 2017 7:03 am

Just a little bit of light relief. Every day a different letter. Today it’s the letter A and I’ll start things off with Arthur and the 2-3 win in 2001 at Deepdale with a legendary performance by King Arthur Gnohéré.

Burnley's greatest ever debut?
Quote from Cotterill in the match report from the Guardian:

“Ade's apologised in the dressing room. He's had 10 days of frustration here, desperate to play for his new club and desperate to get out on the field. When he's out there he tries to do everything and he does that. I think I can safely say Ade's Burnley career will get better from here on. He's absolutely distraught.”

That article mentions a John Thomas Heaton. Anyone know if our great keeper Tom is a descendant?

A is for Absolute shed full of goals. Correct me if I'm wrong but during the course of that competition we scored (over both legs) 11 against East Fife (8 at the Turf), 8 against Hearts (5-0 at the Turf, 3 (I think) against Celtic (including a 1-0 at home in the Battle of Turf Moor - what a night that was). 4-1 away to Oldham in the first leg of the final and (I think the only game we didn't win) a boring 0-0 draw in the second leg at home. Poxy competition really but what a lovely time we had of it.
