Pope
Lots of praise again for pope , I am more than happy with our stand in but am now starting to think he may be more of an asset than Heaton, no doubt Heaton is more agile and better technically but popes size more than makes up for it, brilliant again today

Re: Pope
Hope he keeps Tom out.
Cos that'll mean he's keeping clean sheets, or at least not letting many in.

Re: Pope
Statistically the best keeper in the premiership.
Not seen the saves, but the radio comments said they were really good saves

Re: Pope
Pope has done really well but has an error in him, a dropped ball here and there, a rush out when not needed sometimes etc. This is down to a lack of overall first team experience. Pope is an outstanding shot stopper though, another two great saves today.
That is not me bringing him down a peg or two, he really has been amazing - for me the two things I mention above are the types of mistakes Heaton never seems to make. In fact, Heaton is a relatively error free keeper full stop.
Pope is 100% Burnley's next full time number one, but when fit Tom goes straight back in for me.

Re: Pope
It's going to be tough for Tom to get back in that's for sure. To have his long term replacement already is a huge bonus for us though

Re: Pope
Pope was outstanding again today. If he keeps working hard there's no reason he can't give Heaton a tough job getting the shirt back.

Re: Pope
Interestingly i'd have said Heaton was our most important player. The relative ease with which we have replaced injured or outgoing players is incredible.

Re: Pope
Agree, if we're riding high then I'm sure that Tom will have to wait for a defeat to regain his place. But you can't keep a goalkeeper, and captain, as good as Heaton sit on the bench.

Cost 1.1 million for the pair of them, or thereabouts.
I wonder what they're worth now.

Tarkowski stepped up for Keane.
Pope has stepped up for Heaton.
Charlie Taylor will do the same. Mark my words......

Re: Pope
He has been outstanding but you need two o/s keepers in the PL
I am sure he would be the first to admit the defence has been superb. Only 3 PL teams have let less goals in than our defence which I am guessing has cost us around £7m, and Nick has kept a significant number of clean sheets

Mom for me. Sat virtually right behind him and a good solid performance.
Tom will have plenty of time to get back to match fitness.

Re: Pope
Pope was agile enough in the first half with Bertram’s shot which was low to his right and close to him.Ooogeorgeorgeoghani wrote:Lots of praise again for pope , I am more than happy with our stand in but am now starting to think he may be more of an asset than Heaton, no doubt Heaton is more agile and better technically but popes size more than makes up for it, brilliant again today
Was one of those which could have slipped under him

Re: Pope
Nick takes the high balls well, takes a lot of pressure off defenders with this.
I've seen the saves, one is outstanding, the others fairly routine.

Fighting for the shirt can only be good for us, and them as they will both have to keep improving to claim it. Halcyon days to be a Burnley fan. The only person we can't replace like for like is SD but he'll be staying for the time being.

Superb today- a Heatonesque performance - kept us in the game in the first half
Having seen him and Forster at close quarters, there's no doubt who was the better keeper

Re: Pope
I'd be chuffed to bits if I were Dyche... 2 spot on keepers and when Heaton gets back, they'll be competing for the number one spot. A nice problem to have!

Re: Pope
Some great saves in close up on MOTD.
Re: Pope
Very humble and appreciative of his teammates. Well done Nick - another top drawer performance. The goalkeeping department is a microcosm of the progress achieved right across the club. Incredible to think we are debating whether an England international and club captain will get straight back into the team.

Re: Pope
As mentioned above; the biggest bonus is allowing Tom to get fully fit without needing to rush him back. Next season if that's what it takes.
