9 years today

Post by clarethomer » Sun Nov 12, 2017 9:32 am

Was probably up there with one of the best away games I have experienced.

I missed going to this one because it clashed with the date of my oldest daughter's 12 week scan.

Aside what happened on the pitch and the penalty shoot out at the end - I still get a great feeling remembering how loud we were when was 6000+ fans all in unison singing no nay never.

The season of our Capital punishment campaign - brilliant!

A good friend of mine asked to join him going to that game. I thought we would not win so decided not to go and listened on the radio. I like many others was a nervous wreak during the penalties. I remember a bloke did a video of his dad listening, it's so funny to watch.
My mate still to this day ribs me about not going that day.

Remember it vividly sat with a Chelsea season ticket holder, watching the shed literally rocking. Had to keep my mouth shut for about 3 hours by the time it was finished.

Cracking night :D

I went to this with an Udders' fan from work. We ended up missing the last train back to Leeds because I kept singing out of the taxi window back to kings cross, and the driver didn't exactly appreciate the reason for my excitement. Ended up staying in a less than reputable 'hotel' in kings cross, where I'm guessing the rooms were usually booked by the hour. Worth it tho.

Post match, spent in the hotel we were booked in immediately behind the Matthew Harding stand with some hard core Chelsea fans, who made me go for a kebab at 1am. Didn’t sleep at all, not sure it was the kebab or the excitement. 9 years ago, it seems like yesterday.
What a night :P

Just watched the video on the official website, a real ‘i was there’ night, still sends shivers down the spine. Had to take a couple off days of work with a London over night stay, but it was worth every penny.

To this day I still think that night was a real turning point in the history of the club. I think you can trace a direct line from that night to where we are now, it was that important.

I was there too - amazing night. But for me the turning point / start of it all was the 3-2 win at Luton.

So it’s all about Ade!

Yep - first row in top tier. In middle near the lad in the orange jacket who was one of our group.
Brilliant seats and one of my favourite away games ever - if not my favourite.

We stopped in London - went out in Hammersmith and saw that turd Chris Sutton and other bastar-d Pearce (centre back) in a bar.

My mates and I were near the back of the top tier, fantastic atmosphere and a decent view, albeit from a great height!
My first memory is when they played that intro song (is it Dave and Ansell Collins?) which is meant to end with "Chel-sea!!" and us outsinging them with "Burnley!" A fantastic night for us all.

After the Fulham win, a few of us in 101 club decided that we'd go in the next round, no matter who we got drawn against. I went to every Carling cup game that season except the one vs Oldham.

Chelsea was great, top tier, really loud. I'm not normally a choirboy on the footie but everyone seemed to be singing that night, so no one seemed self conscious. Great laugh after the game as well.

I remember it was great fun the day after in full Claret regalia looking for Chelsea fans in restaurants and just standing in front of the window until they were forced to acknowledge me! A bit sad but I was so hacked off after the game how bitter they were, they were not prepared to give us any credit at all. We played QPR on the Saturday and was bought several pints by very happy Hoops fans.To round off a great few days we won that one as well.

9 years ago, this was probably the last time our group of friends did something together properly before settling into proper jobs, moving away and having kids etc - and it only seems a few years ago. Time flies.

Absolutely amazing night. I was, fortunately, working in London that week (well I say fortunately but I'd arranged to work on an audit to ensure I could take in the QPR game then the Chelsea game landed in the same week). It was the most nervous I'd been during the shoot out so to win it after Wades miss was just unreal. We sat in a pub on North End Road after the game with the most bitter Chelsea fans all saying "we'll never play you again you useless Northern monkeys". Shocking plastic fans from a shocking plastic club.

I had the pleasure of working at Chelsea during the 90's as their auditor and they were a nothing club before the oil money took them over. Always detested them since.

I listened on Radio Lancs and Clarke Carlisle was in the box, he was brilliant and when he was asked how he felt after the shoot out he wasn't there he'd legged it down to the pitch what a night. Day after I took a pic on the Telegraph placard outside the local newsagents CLARETS STUN CHELSEA. utc
