"The study found four managers have taken charge of eight clubs in the 20 years, with Steve Cotterill joining the list after his appointment at Birmingham in September."
Impressive.

It should be like transfer windows, no changing manager mid season. IF it is a serious situation, where continuing is untenable, then someone from within the club should take over.

Managerial sackings are that frequent with huge pay offs that money laundering should be investigated.

Managers who fail to win enough games and get the points required to either prevent relegation or achieve promotions are “severely damaging” to the finances of football clubs....
Perhaps the LMA needs to remember that football is a business and that if the performance levels and targets aren’t met then sacking is an inevitable consequence....

He's brilliant is Richard Bevan, unbelievably good when it comes to double standards.
When we sacked Brian Laws at the end of 2010 he issued a statement strongly criticising our club for sacking our manager, almost accusing us of a knee jerk reaction. The same Richard Bevan offered no words of criticism, only support, when Owen Coyle and then Eddie Howe left mid-season. It's all one way with him.

Perhaps some proper research into why managers fail - personnel management, training methods. use of sports science etc. - might not go amiss.

Nah, just give it to somebody who is "one of the lads", knows how to sink a pint or two and who was a decent player who preferably played for the club in question.Hipper wrote:Perhaps some proper research into why managers fail - personnel management, training methods. use of sports science etc. - might not go amiss.
This approach seems to have done British football proud for at least 2 decades now....
On a serious note, it has been one of the factors allowing us to get ahead of ourselves. Whilst all about us have been appointing managers using the above criteria, we've been able to cherry-pick good managers (mostly) by sensibly judging candidates on their managerial abilities.

That's far too sensible Colburn, bordering on lunatic!Colburn_Claret wrote:It should be like transfer windows, no changing manager mid season. IF it is a serious situation, where continuing is untenable, then someone from within the club should take over.
The whole bl**dy system needs an overhaul, and not before time!

You should also be able to take out of work managers anytime, a bit like out of contract players.

Thought this when I saw Cotterill on the "8 clubs" list- he's walked out on Cheltenham, Stoke, Notts County and Portsmouth and only us, Forest and Bristol City have dismissed him, but that lack of loyalty doesn't merit a mention.ClaretTony wrote:He's brilliant is Richard Bevan, unbelievably good when it comes to double standards.

I like the idea where you cannot change clubs mid season, if a club wants to sack the manager somebody already in the club takes over similar to what someone posted above, I bet there would be nearly nowhere near as many sackings as there are now.
