I also recommend the first 5 books of McNab's Nick Stone series (Dark Winter should have been the end of the series, you'll understand when you read it)

I keep meaning to try that Bravo Two Zero and one of that other SAS chaps book.
Can't recall his name.

Joy and Josephine by Monica Dickens. I was 9 years old and remember being shocked at seeing real swearwords in print, especially as it was a book my Mum had given me to read.

I've not read Bravo Two Zero. Not sure why.

You' referring to Chris Ryan. His books are OK and i've read a few but i like that McNab's will make me laugh every now and then. In immediate action there are two specific laugh-out-loud moments i remember. One when he's training on how to clear a landing zone of trees and puts far too much PE4 into a tree. The other when he's training others (in belize i think) and he sets some PE4 alight to use as a firelighter and all his trainees freak out and scatter.

Remote Control, because you'll then want to read Crisis Four, then Firewall, Last Light, Liberation Day and finally Dark Winter. In that order. (6, not 5. i'd forgot about Liberation Day because it's pretty average, worth reading though)

Red Storm Rising. Still my favourite book ever.

Rats by James Herbert. Went back to Famous Five after that !!!!

Ten Little Indians by Agatha Christie (I genuinely think it might have been called something else then with the "N word" in operation !!)

Rainbow Six probably.

I can't remember which was first but probably, a kestrel for a knave, or animal farm, at school. I didn't really understand either until I was older.

Read "Red Storm Rising" when I was a teen and still read it now. Clancy could really write till he went all mad and turned into Donald Trump on steroids

Wheels of Terror wasn't it? They made it into a film with Bruce Davison as Porta

I actually watched the film, to say they toned it down a bit is the biggest understatement ever.

Another for Sven Hassel here,I thing legion of the damned but not defo,my dad had most of them ,great books and top characters,though the final couple did drift a little I think the”commissar “ was his last .

I remember this on “straight to video” with Ollie Reed it was a total stinker.

In fact I could have sworn the Film hadsnother name as well like “wild brigade” as well though I could be wrong .The film itself wasn’t THAT bad, but I seem to remember it having the budget of of an episode of casualty

I honestly can't remember and what is an 'adult' book anyway? Not sure. I read Animal Farm quite young but not sure how old I was. Jonathan Livingstone Seagull I read when about 18ish. The first serious non-fiction I read was Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert Pirsig when I was 21. The ideas in that book scared me so much that I stopped reading it half way through and didn't go back for about 10 years or more when I was mature enough to handle it. I have since read it many times (along with it's only sequel Lila - An Enquiry into Morals) and now view them almost like a bible to my life. They are the only books that really changed my whole attitude to life and living. Although they CAN be classed as 'novels' as there is a kind of auto-biographical 'story' about them both, they are really just a vehicle for Pirsig's philosophical ideas, which led me to a lifelong interest in Zen Buddhism and quantum physics.

Oh not that sort of 'Adult' book then!

Another for Sven Hassel. Read them all but they weren't mine. All at Nana's.
As were all the JT Edson and I read all them as well before going onto Alistair Maclean and Frederick Forsyth.

I didnt start reading novels while quite late in life but my first ever read was while on holiday, a guy offered me a book and i didnt like to refuse him so i took it, started to read and couldnt put the thing down, INFERNO by Dan Brown, ive been hooked since.

Maybe I should have been more clear on this as to what I would classify as an Adult book.
What I would categorise as an 'Adult' book is any novel that contains texts that would be deemed unsuitable for under 16's..

I was t a big reader as Kid, early on at Uni I got sick and someone brought me High Fidelity and Sophie's Choice, so it was probably one of those.

It was either "Road To Wigan Pier" or "1984" when I was about 12.
I read kids' books avidly until I was about 10 then stopped for a couple of years. My brother, 6 years older than me. had all Orwell's' books on a shelf in his bedroom.
I think I've read everything of his apart from "Keep The Aspidistra Flying" which for some reason I've never got round to.

Before I even clicked on the thread, my first thought was 'Sven Hassel'! I used to love his books!

I endorse Sven Hassel with Tiny et al but my first adult reads were Ian Flemming's James Bond books, a refeshing change after Enid' s the Famous Five..

I used to read all sorts until at about 11 I was made to read pickwick papers by Dickens one summer.
What a load of sh1te that is. It put me off books for a few years.
When I got back to school in September I was told it was a comedy. Nine hundred pages of absolute cr4p and I hadn't spotted anything funny in it at all. There's more jokes in the bible.

I stumbled across the "Tropic of Capricorn" under my Dad's bed when I was about 14 pretty racy it was to, his porn collection with it was pretty good as well.

I think it was called Victorian Diaries by Anais Nin - can't fully remember as I was in fap heaven at the time

Another here for Sven Hassall - not much of a reader but really enjoyed his books.

Downloaded a couple onto my kindle for my holiday and thoroughly enjoyed them
again.

However, my 1st adult book was either The Carpetbaggers, The Kon-Tiki Expedition
(at school) or the Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner.

They must be good books if I read them !!!!!
