Maybe they should just knock it down and build an ultra modern sterile stadium! (But with perfect views from every seat!)Goody1975 wrote:Every seat in rows behind the pillars in the two older stands has some kind of restricted view, you do realise that the 'restricted view' seats listed on the website are only categorised so if you cannot see both goals, if you can see both goals but hardly anything of the centre of the pitch that it doesn't count as such.
Add to this the front few rows of the new stands, especially the James Hargreaves Stand which are incredibly below pitch level, the view is appalling and add to this fans getting bloody soaked in these seats if it rains, wonder why seats in this prime position down the side of the pitch are usually among the last to be sold?
Yes thousands, maybe not 10,000 but certainly a considerable amount which will runs into thousands.
Turf Moor is not the cinema or the theatre but fans expectations of what is adequate for a fairly hefty admission fee have gone up since the days of standing in your own urine when going for a pee at half time in the 70's and 80's. If Burnley FC want a legacy to go with the training ground then a long term project to make Turf Moor a 21st Century ground should be high on it.
Should we be chucking £20-30 Million at it next summer? Certainly not but with the apparently seriously good chance of being in the Premier League come August 2018 we should move the plans for a constructive and well planned discussion at boardroom level forward, with hopefully continued success on the field funding the much needed improvements in the next few seasons.

Re: Arsenal game sold out
I know you’re being facetious, but actually a longer term plan could be to build two new stands to replace the older ones, increasing capacity by 3-4,000 whilst the longer term plan is to reduce the capacity of the older stands. They could remove the from 6-7 rows so that the viewing experience begins higher up, a bit like the Bob Lord Stand now. Doesn’t need to be a bowl, and doesn’t need to be any more sterile than a normal all seater ground like we have now.Leisure wrote:Maybe they should just knock it down and build an ultra modern sterile stadium! Just another idea for a longer term plan. Whatever they do I’d hope there’s a legacy left at Turf Moor too. Football is cyclical so eventually we will drop and not see the TV money. We’ll then cry poverty and if we have to replace stands in years to come we’ll do things on the cheap....again!

Not arsed what the stands look like as long as I can see the pitch from them and our capacity is just about spot on.

Sounds like a bunch of faggots arguing the toss here...
Crammed into the old Longside, for all its stink of weed, p*ss and beer fumes was something I found a hundred times more uplifting than sitting amongst the current sterile tribe of guacamole eating fannies.
Just sayin.

I'm pretty sure that the work to knock down two stands and build two news ones would negatively effect our performances on the pitch, which would possibly result in relegation, which would make the new stands unnecessary.

So what do we do, wait until they fall down? Anyway, I’d be happy with new, quality cladding and new signage.Lancasterclaret wrote:I'm pretty sure that the work to knock down two stands and build two news ones would negatively effect our performances on the pitch, which would possibly result in relegation, which would make the new stands unnecessary.

If we could do that, then that would be the best solution! But I'm not sure that would be possible.
How long would it take to get permission to do it for starters?

In all seriousness the time will come, soonish if we stay where we are, to replace at least one of the stands while we have the money.
Ideally they need to include things that can continue to bring in revenue in the future when things won’t be so good.

Or maybe the club could pay a visit to Padiham Paints, purchase a few tins of white emulsion and make the outside of the ground look presentable. One that gives the impression of a proud Premier League club as opposed to a skint one from the Unibond Plastic League.
We can leave the argument for building new stands for another day.

Yes cause that's exactly what i was proposing.Leisure wrote:Maybe they should just knock it down and build an ultra modern sterile stadium! (But with perfect views from every seat!)
You do realise a redevelopment could include some kind of safe standing if legislation is passed? Hardly a soulless bowl then is it?

Re: Arsenal game sold out
Exactly the reason why it needs to be discussed in the fairly near future whether that be this season or next, if the board agree to some kind of redevelopment then they will need to find architects, have plans drawn up and submitted which will have obvious objections from local residents, it could take well over twelve months from deciding to start the project to being in a position to do any kind of building work, even if there was a serious intention from the board now to go ahead with substantial changes to one or more of the stands the work wouldn't go ahead before 2020 at the earliest in my opinion, by then the stands will be 52 and 46 years old.Lancasterclaret wrote:If we could do that, then that would be the best solution! Re: Arsenal game sold out
Never liked The Bob Lord Stand. If they'd stuck to the original plans and made it cantilever and twice as big it would've been fine.
It's so out of proportion with the rest of the stadium and looks awful as you approach it from the town centre.
We need to do it now whilst we're swimming in cash because who knows what the future holds.

Re: Arsenal game sold out
If we’d have done what was originally intended we’d have had a single tier, cantilever stand where the Bob Lord is, holding 8,000 fans. We’d also have a Cricket Field Stand where the Bee Hole is, holding 4,500 (original capacity) had we received planning consent.
In all likelihood we’d have build a Cricket Field end as it is now, which would take capacity to 17,000, and to match it all up another 8,000 seater stand at the Longside, likely giving us 25,000 seats. It would surprise me if Bob Lord had thought about it. We’d basically have a ground which looked like a Preston, but better.

Re: Arsenal game sold out
I agree, Stan. We have to at least have plans in place now, whilst we have money. The last thing I want to see is duplicates of those cheap looking and finished stands at the Longside and Bee Hole because “we don’t have the Premier League riches”. The brickwork is falling to bits in places after only 20 years!!!Stan Tastic wrote:Never liked The Bob Lord Stand. We will go down eventually. Sorry for the negative spin, but we are not an established top 6 who almost guarantee staying up. If and when we do it would be nice enticing players with a first class training facility AND stadium. Ours used to be, but we fell behind the times. It’s time we caught up.

Could we not relocate for a season like Tottenham have done , Wembley is too far away but Ewood Park is decent alternative.

I'd never actually read any of that article before, but now I realise the worst thing about it was the suggestion that the Italians invented football. Heresy!UpTheBeehole wrote:If we went the whole hog and changed them to black, at least we'd get some favourable coverage in the Daily Mail

Re: Arsenal game sold out
In addition to the sellout at this game, a couple of good results out of the next three matches could mean a home seats sellout at the Watford game. The Stoke game on a Tuesday night in December will only be around 19,000 - 20,000 but after that we should easily sellout the next 4 homes matches (Spurs, Liverpool, Man Utd, Man City) - good times!
