Rodney Bewes passes away.

I always liked him and a shame the way it ended with his partner in WHTTLL, More later.

Rodney Bewes' autobiography, A Likely Story, was published in September 2005.Bewes revealed in it, and also on Michael Parkinson's BBC Radio 2 show in 2005, that his Likely Lads co-star James Bolam had not spoken to him for the last 30 years, after they fell out over a misunderstanding regarding a press interview Bewes had given.

In 2010, Bewes also complained about his former co-star's refusal to allow The Likely Lads to be repeated on terrestrial television (both must give approval), preventing his earning anything from the repeats; "he must be very wealthy; me, I've just got an overdraft and a mortgage".

Classic scene when they are discussing the lyrics to Halfway to Paradise in the pub.

Wouldn't get away with it these days.

Really sad news, brilliant series.

Always remember when they were trying to avoid the England score and sat in the hairdressers when Terry makes a disparaging remark about the hairdresser chap not knowing about football when Bob tells him he once had a trial for Burnley.

RIP Rodney

One of my favourite scenes ever is in The Likely Lads movie.
They go away in a caravan. It's persisting down so they end up playing cards in teams. Bob is paired with Thelma and it's going badly
Bob pops out for a pee and they can hear him in the 'van. Thelma says "That's the first time all night I know what he's got in his hand".

Sad news, one of my all time favourite programmes. No Hiding Place a classic episode, when the lads tried to hide from a World Cup result.
RIP Rodney.

The Likely Lads was one of a few series over time on TV where characters were referred to but never seen. Norma Braithwaite being one.

Good show very typical seventies comedy between the working class Terry and the middle class Bob and their long-suffering other halves.RIP Rodney :(

R.I.P. Rodney.

I remember him doing Jackanory quite a few times but apart from The Likely Lads I don't recall watching anything else he was in.

James Bolam can be a very difficult person.
Didn't he upset the people of Downham whilst filming Born & Bred?

TV doing a re run of the likely lads, watched a few episodes and they still make me laugh, Bob and Terry were typical north east 70s characters, James Bolam went on to quite a busy acting career but i havnt heard of Rodney in years, a funny man in his own unique way. God bless

I always thought that was a very creative device as we can imagine almost anything we want. I don't know that many series but I can immediately think of 'Er indoors', and Mrs Mainwaring.

Columbo's wife.

Doreen Thorpe (wife of DS Thorpe) in Hollyoaks is also never seen, no doubt a hat-tip to Columbo.

He certainly comes across like that. Bewes would have earned £4k an episode had Bolam agreed a rerun of the series. About £100k overall.

Maybe in fairness to Bolam,I read that he didn't just want to be remembered for The Likely Lads and typecasted.(something like that)
But as has been referred,Bolam's career was progressing whereas Bewes,It would seem, wasn't in big demand so it does appear to be a selfish act.
