no need to worryAssistant Chief Constable Tim Jacques said: “I recognise that events like this can cause people to worry and impact on wider public confidence. I want to reassure people that our information and intelligence lead us to believe that there is no immediate threat to local people.

Can you not be English and a terrorist?
If he's 31, there's a strong chance he is English, or at very least British.

With the sudden move to put barriers up at the Turf and this happening a few days later - makes you wonder if the police had some intel on something.

Apparently been armed police at Ewood park on a regular basis, I think only the naive would think we aren't in a high risk area.

Re: Man arrested
Was armed police outside our end for the derby game earlier in the season - I think it's the darker side of our area which most of us don't think of a lot of the time. My young nephew was confused why there was a police officer with a gun at a football match (was his 1st away game) as were most of my mates ...... But it's these things that put it into perspective.MACCA wrote:100% correct.

We don't know for sure but it certainly does appear that there may be strong evidence to point towards a very specific concern that a football match was the target of a terrorist plot.

I was referring to the person who said he won't be English. I was just making sure that it is fact you cannot be English and a terrorist.
Then the goal posts were moved to white British.
So was making the point..... forget it

We are in an age of global terror and like it or not you are all involved especially when attending public events such as a football match.
You don't have to be of a specific heritage to be a disciple of terror.

You say "Global Terror" but it is actually centred very specifically around Islamist terror. In fact it is almost exclusively Islamist terror.JohnMac wrote:We are in an age of global terror and like it or not you are all involved especially when attending public events such as a football match.

The areas that experience this terror are almost exclusively areas where there are Muslims.
"Global Terror" is a misnomer.

A lot of publicised attacks are maybe carried out by muslims - but as a threat level .... It could be from anywhere which makes it more worrying.

Re: Man arrested
You're thousands, if not millions of times more likely to die in the car on the way to a match than be blown up at a match.
Re: Man arrested
I could plan to kill dozens, if not hundreds or even tousands. However I'm not a sick individual that wants to take the lives of innocent people.
The problem is, it is far to easy for do so. The fact it can happen anywhere at anytime and has been quite frequent in recent years makes it harder to stop.
I find it staggering that although the attacks are horrific, they are not very well thought out and don't maximise the potential for life loss.
Nothing stopping a Eddie Stobarts type truck steaming down brunshaw rd at 80 mph at 16:55 and causing mass distruction.
That could happen at anytime of day anywhere and take multiple lives.
You only need 1 sicko.

There he goes again up the beehole with his it'll never happen attitude. It would not surprise me one bit if extremists are targeting sports events. Apparently they had snipers at the Great North Run. So the guns you saw at the Remembrance Beehole were more for show. Snipers had it covered.

Of course they had. I went to the Remembrance Ceremony in London three years ago and snipers were clearly visible on most of the Whitehall rooftops.

The perpetrators of the most deadly terror attacks on U.K. soil in the past ten years have been English, predominantly from Yorkshire.

As mentioned in my posts about the Remembrance Service senior members of the Royal Family, Senior Politicians and Senior Military Personnel snipers are a given at some considerable cost.
