It's not often you can restrict the Aussies to two and half an over scoring rate at home.

The Smith-Marsh partnership gives the Aussies the edge but a good 3 days cricket in prospect.

Bang even for me, but you would rather have the runs on the board.CleggHall wrote:The Smith-Marsh partnership gives the Aussies the edge but a good 3 days cricket in prospect.
I think it will be a draw but who knows if the pitch will break up on the last day?

Re: ASHES. FIRST TEST
I also think it’ll be a draw. Good to have the runs on the board, but we need to get Smith early tomorrow. Once he’s gone the tail is exposed. I think the pitch will hold up, probably enough moister in the Queensland air to stop it breaking up.

Pitch there usually does hold up. Often gets harder day 3/4 with more bounce.RammyClaret61 wrote:I also think it’ll be a draw. Wish we could have reached 350/ 375. Couldn't have seen us losing then, unless we bottled it.
Your right though.
Need Smith early tomorrow.
He's more than capable of getting a big, big ton.

Re: ASHES. FIRST TEST
England just need to go back to a disciplined line and length, don't give anything away and make them force the issue. They will need to go for the win at home and that's when mistakes will creep in.
Warner was the danger man as he scores very quick.

Re: ASHES. FIRST TEST
Yeah, looks pretty even at the moment but odds will change in the first session Saturday depending on whether runs or wickets come out on top.
I watched the first hour 11.30- 00.30 last night and was a bit disappointed this am to find we'd only just edged past 300, thought it looked like 350 was well on when I went to bed.
The weather forecast indicates likely thundery/ heavyish showers Saturday through the afternoon + some lighter showers in the following two days- so that could play a part.
Generally in a match at this stage after 2 days, you'd bet against the draw -assuming the pitch might deteriorate but Pakistan got 450 chasing c 490 in the last innings a year ago so no recent indication that day 5 will be a nightmare to bat on.

An early wicket or two tonight, and I think we’ll win it. Any Aussie 1st innings lead of 50 or more and I think we’ll lose....

Re: ASHES. FIRST TEST
Vital we get Smith early not convinced the Aussie tail is that strong, looks likely to be a 1 innings shootout depending on the weather if England can set the Aussies circa 250 on the last day Mooen could be the key to victory.

Smith 69 no
Paine 0 no
Looking like the only way to stop Smith is to make sure he runs out of partners.

New ball in 7 overs. Woakes & Ball bowling
Slow scoring from the Aussies. Like us.
Good game though.
Proper Test cricket.
Another couple of wickets before lunch, & we'll be looking good.

Re: ASHES. FIRST TEST
Trying to watch down here is painful. Being let down by 21st century technology. Remember many years ago when we use to turn down the commentary on the tv to listen to the cricket on the radio. With channel 9’s woeful line up, I’ve just been trying to do just that. Unfortunately the radio commentary is a good 30 seconds, almost the previous ball, behind play. . So it’s back to Micheal Slater who only dogs can hear when the Aussies hit a boundary. Boring Kevin “look at me” Pietersen, speak the blood obvious Micheal Clarke & of course Shane “I was the best” Warne. Not forgetting adverts every over & every wicket.

Re: ASHES. FIRST TEST
New Ball could be vital need to get Smith out soon he could still take this match away from England, important to break that Smith/Marsh partnership gives England a chance of a small first innings lead.

Re: ASHES. FIRST TEST
Following the game on my phone so haven't actually seen the shot but....
Why the **** is a bloke who only scored 6 in the 1st innings doing, hooking a ball to the boundary, in only the 3rd over. What a muppet.
They should bring back Boycott to show them how to build an innings.
Cricket for me is dying, my dad would be spinning in his grave.

A real innings that by Smith.
Radio suggesting Anderson carrying an injury as neither him or Broad bowled for the first hour after lunch.
Stokes is a massive miss for us.

Re: ASHES. FIRST TEST
Cook's shot was poor. Only the first test though. Oz normally demolish teams here, so it's not all doom and gloom. Not being battered is a good return. Was hot in the stands, 30 degrees, so I expect a better response tomorrow from England as they haven't been fielding for a day. The final hour was the most hostile atmosphere in a test ground I've experienced. The ball that smashed Root's face guard was followed up by a bouncer, the Oz public purred. So far from the chattering and beer snakes in Lords and Old Trafford.

Re: ASHES. FIRST TEST
We are still well in this game, but we do need a couple of partnerships,if we can set the Aussies 200+ could be a nail-biter,hope Jimmy is fit to bowl in the 4th innings and for the rest of the series.Poor shot from Cook especially given the match situation, plusses for England we have competed at the Gabba, new men all scored 50+,negatives let Australia back into the game after a strong top-order 1st innings and had them on the ropes twice when they were batting, credit to Smith once he gets in he makes it pay a lesson for England's batters.
