Was at Boro for 3 years and never got a league game, on loan at Harlepool and Cambridge before a move to Kilmarnock in a league where Eagles has just got a contract with Dross County and OC

To be fair Ashley Barnes has got a contract in a league where Aguero and Kane are kicking about but it doesn't mean they're on the same level.

If we are looking at a winger from Northern Ireland I'd hope that it is James McClean.

Our club doesn't need the controversy or hassle for such an average player.

I think he is the perfect type of winger for a Sean Dyche team. He certainly has the mentality. If anything his controversies are a bonus as his market value would be well below that of a player of his calibre would otherwise demand.

Interesting article on McClean here -

It might just be me but after watching Ireland the other week I think it's the wrong country to build our team around. We already have plenty of the workers you think Dyche likes.
It's quality we need now to improve us and take us to a level were performances like against Swansea are regular.

A quick look at his West Brom stats suggests 4 assists and 3 goals in his first two seasons, with none this year.

To be fair, its Pulis.

I've seen enough to think he'd be good enough (at the very least) to provide competition for Brady, JBG and Arfield.

If it's NI wingers we are talking about then I am always impressed with Stuart Dallas whenever I have seen him play (admittedly not more than 4 or 5 times in the last couple of years). He always looks tricky and very quick / direct.

No, the topic is Jordan Jones and you said "If we are looking at a winger from Northern Ireland I'd hope that it is James McClean."

And Socrates said "He’s not from Northern Ireland."

Jordan Jones is from Middlesbrough, and McClean plays for the Republic of Ireland

Who is disputing where Jordan Jones is from? No matter who the thread was about originally I mentioned McClean and Socrates said that he wasn't from Northern Ireland. Then you chirped in. Clueless, as per.

But we aren't looking at a winger from Northern Ireland, we're looking at a winger from Middlesbrough

Just a thought but there was a discussion on here recently about the dreaded 'stats' and it was suggested that goals don't come predominantly from crosses (not my idea I hasten to add), if that is the case (and I'm only asking) why do we keep demanding a 'fast pacey winger who can get to the byline'? It doesn't seem to figure too much in the Dyche style but as I asked at the time is that because Dyche doesn't believe in crosses or just that we play that way because we haven't got a 'true' winger who can do that?
Any ideas?

Ah but does Uncle Sean sit at home thinking, 'WTF do I need a winger for? Wingers are old hat. Goals don't come from crosses. That reminds me I must tell Big Sam that, odd how most of his goals come from crosses, I don't think he realises that goals don't come about because of people getting behind defenders and putting in crosses'.

Or does he sit there going, 'I wish we could afford a good pacey winger who can deliver pinpoint crosses to target men like Big Sam. I'm sick and tired of pretending I don't like crosses into the box because we haven't sodding well got anyone who can do it'.

Yes folks, another slow day at work (it's the time of year).

It is easier to attack down the wings as there is space with the fullback tucked in and one to one marking at most. Down the centre the two CHs can control the one CF easier. Most teams get down the wing and cut back inside rather than cross, but it could be down to the lack of quality in crossing ability these days.

Plus it's about 70% chance of you losing your keeping possession stat and that's all that matters to some.
