I thought he had flopped at Everton on his return, just on account of being associated with that mess I suppose, but his statistics (even before tonight) in the league have been very decent.

He is now on 7 in 12.

He has sublime ability, I think he peaked physically early which meant his body couldn't perform to the same standard earlier than most. He lost his pace before he was 30, quite rare to see in professional footballers. A world class player in his prime, absolutely no doubt about it.

Remember the time when Rooney and Ronaldo were on a par and the Ronaldo sky rocketed ahead to be truly world class and Rooney just kind of plateaued out.
