Trump and Jerusalem...Insane
His idea (which apparently will come into effect today) to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital
and move the US embassy there from Tel Aviv, despite widespread international condemnation,
seems the equivalent of tipping a barrel of petrol onto the situation there.
This'll mean Muslim fury and increase the danger to Americans abroad.
Not in America's interests, so why do it? It's barmy.

Perhaps he's not willing to live in constant submission of "Muslim fury" unlike every other western world leader.

Anyone have insights into the justification? Being a weapons-grade belmtard doesn’t do it for me. Even Trump must have his reason, even if deluded

Re: Trump and Jerusalem...Insane
But Moffitt's alright with it.A cacophony of angry and despairing voices across the Middle East and the world have urged Donald Trump not to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel at a planned speech on Wednesday, warning him that any such announcement would destroy the peace process, strengthen the extremists and weaken the US’s standing in the world.
The Pope issued an unusually heartfelt plea to the president to respect the status quo on the city, and to conform with UN resolutions. He told thousands of people at his general audience: “I cannot keep quiet about my deep worry about the situation that has been created in the last few days.”
Pope Francis said he hoped “wisdom and prudence prevail, in order to avoid adding new elements of tension to a global panorama that is already convulsed and marked by so many cruel conflicts”.
The spokesman for the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, said the US was “plunging the region and the world into a fire with no end in sight”. He added that the Organisation for Islamic Co-operation would meet in Istanbul on 13 December in a special session to co-ordinate a response.
The Turkish foreign minister, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, disclosed he had told the US secretary of state, Rex Tillerson, that Washington was making a grave mistake, and the whole world was against the decision. Turkey has suggested it might cut diplomatic ties with Israel if the plan goes ahead.
British prime minister Theresa May said on Wednesday that she would call Trump about his proposed announcement.
“The status of Jerusalem should be determined as a negotiated settlement between the Israelis and the Palestinians and Jerusalem should be a shared capital,” she said.
Both Germany and France, fierce critics of the decision, updated travel advice to their citizens, warning of possible clashes in Israel and the occupied territories.
Trump is expected to declare formal recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel later on Wednesday, breaking with years of precedent and potentially leading to unpredictable consequences for the Middle East.
Wonder why.

I'm not sure how anyone, with a sane state of mind, can be upset about a building being built in a City. That's all it is.
It only signifies something if you want it too, IE. if you've had your mind warped by religion.

A large part of his campaign was capitalising on Muslim fury and the danger to Americans, an increase in that isn't necessarily going to be a bad thing for him personally.

Apart from the fact he's almost certainly not religious based on everything he's ever said/done prior to running for presidency (which you have to do in America as a republican because they are all morons and won't vote for you otherwise).UpTheBeehole wrote:The biggest religious nutjob involved in all of this is Donald Trump, and he's hell-bent on getting as many of his countrymen killed as possible.
If Israel ever gets wiped out, and replaced with an islamic caliphate, then you will really see what bloodshed means. Call me crazy but i'd rather he backs the people who aren't actively trying to kill us.

Absolute madness, nothing more than picking fights - his ignorance shows no bounds. It is clearly designed to cause Muslim reaction, but it may also lead to severe problems in his own back yard (which in all likelihood has never entered that pea he calls a brain). Jerusalem is divided equally between the THREE religions who consider it their holy place, not two. Israel are using Trump's complete ignorance to wrestle the city away for themselves, something they've been trying but failing to do since the country was recognised in the 40's. I cannot see that going down too well with America's bible belt.

Having been to jerusalem. All i can say is the place is nothing like what the media or social media portrays.
Beautiful city where all, from first hand experience at least, live work and get along together. The restrictions between moving to and from the palestinian side are exagerrated beyond belief and there was zero tension at all. I walked all around the area day and night and felt no tension.
Israel, especially Tel Aviv was as safe as Ive ever felt anywhere in the world and more so than many places in western europe.
Jerusalems been recognised as the capital for years. Dont see what the issue is

There is a massive difference between 'submission' and 'inflammation'. There is nothing too much wrong with protecting your own side (although too how much is another debate) and inflaming a situation which may make any threat worse than it was in the first place. Something like this is NOT protection but it is highly likely that it will make the situation worse. Any 'threat' (I use that term guardedly) to America from Islam is minimal compared to the rest of the world so he can afford to talk the talk without worrying too much about the consequences. I would call him a buffoon but the word buffoon suggests a likeable fool and there is nothing likeable at all about Trump.ClaretMoffitt wrote:Perhaps he's not willing to live in constant submission of "Muslim fury" unlike every other western world leader.

I know this may be a contrary view, but wouldn't it have been nice if in 1948 the Palestinians had decided to bite the bullet and accept that the Jews should officially have there own homeland. After all they had already been living there in large numbers for many years and that nasty Mr Hitler had been trying to wipe them off the face of the earth. But no, they went down the route of confrontation. And where has that got them; nowhere.

Re: Trump and Jerusalem...Insane
I'm a great believer in keeping religion out of politics, it has no place there as far as I am concerned but Jerusalem is a bit odd. It is a hotly disputed place with Islam, Judaism and Christianity recognising it as important. For Israel to declare it as their capital will upset years of careful balance and, as has been stated above, may/will cause new tensions in an area full of tension already. I agree it is 'only a building' and should not be significant but in this particular case it will not be just a building it will be symbol of control by an already hated nation. There are reasons why this move is being condemned by virtually the whole world, by people far more in the know than us, even people with no vested interest, we should listen to what they are saying.IAmAClaret wrote:I'm not sure how anyone, with a sane state of mind, can be upset about a building being built in a City. People will get upset about anything, look at all the English people on here upset on behalf of the Israeli Muslims, hilarious to see. Muslims are a minority in Israel by a large margin to the Jewish. A figure plucked from the internet says 15% of Israel claim to be Muslim.

Leaving out the "gypsies" reference this is pretty much what seemed to happen when the state of Israel was created. The trouble is that the intention was a good one with millions of homeless persecuted Jewish people being pushed from pillar to post - but it must have seemed manifestly unfair to the existing dwellers in the area. Of course such non-binary opinions have no place on the internet so lets just stick to the usual thoughtless name-calling and have done with it.UpTheBeehole wrote:Imagine if another country decided that your house, your hometown and the surrounding area was to be taken off you and given to gypsies.
